the thing is you can start your business with whatever amount you have.

I met a man who owns a restaurant now, he told me his story, he started from making popcorn beside the road, after making some money rented a shop and started selling soft drinks along with the popcorn in the course of a year and half he already owns a very big restaurant where ppl drive 1/2hours just to come and eat there.

with 500k you're good to start your business here, if you don't want to start small

don't even compare anything there to Nigeria, are you for real asking that, naija internet? I laff in Swahili
What's wrong with Nigerians? How dare you compare Mozambique with Nigeria? I hope you know Mozambique is the 7th poorest and underdeveloped country in the world. There per capita GDP is just $1,215. What useless business opportunities are you talking about in Mozambique when the citizens are in penury?

As an economist, I have travelled to several African countries for business conferences and meetings. I won't advise any Nigerians to migrate to Mozambique for whatever reasons because the poverty in Mozambique is extreme and severe.

first of all the comment you quote wasn't talking about Mozambique but Portugal

Secondly... Yes we can't compare Moz with Nigeria but they've got what we don't have with little or no resources at all.

Thirdly... You said you can't advice any Nigerian to move to Moz for any business whatsoever just because you're an economist, economist my foot.
Every economist sees opportunity where they seems to be none.

I am here in Moz and I've met with Nigerians, south Africans, Portuguese, Brazilians and ppl from the UK doing various businesses, from agriculture, to spare part, boutiques etc and making it big, you're there saying you won't advice anyone to come and do business here.

Let me burst your bubble, you've got 80% chance of succeeding doing business here than in Nigeria

Good roads.
24/7 electricity.

Let's just be open to reality and forget that tag of a country is poor so you can't make money there because of this.

If truly you're an economist you wouldn't have write what you wrote here.

Good day.

Business opportunity in Nigeria is there but too risky to run. Imagine how many companies have left Nigeria because of the obstacles inherent here.
To do agriculture, herdsmen dey wait for you or electricity will do you shege.
To run a printing press or photo lab, my equipment burnt due to power issues, UPS will try its best but when its issues start, you know you will lose a lot in the business.
Mr Economist, give another reason not to migrate there.

.
You are a joker. You are comparing a country of 180 million population (huge market) and second largest economy in Africa with Mozambique. In every economic indices, Nigeria is richer and far ahead of Mozambique. Mozambique is a country ranked among the poorest countries in the world.

Despite our high population of 186 million, our per capita GDP of $2,177.99 is double of Mozambique's. Note: the population of Mozambique is just 30 million. It implies an average Nigerian have more income to spend than an average Mozambican.

I am sure you don't know anything about starting and running a business when you said you have got 80℅ chance of succeeding in Mozambique compared to Nigeria. An entrepreneur will want to establish his business in a country with good middle class and disposable income to spend on goods and services. How can it be possible in Mozambique when they are the 7th poorest country in the world? What is the purchasing power of their citizens? After South Africa, Nigeria is a very big investment attraction to foreign investor.

I acknowledge Nigeria has its own challenges. Does that mean you should move from fry pan to fire. Please do your research before relocating to Mozambique and don't be deceived by pictures and comments of someone having her vacation in Mozambique.

Professionally, I won't advise any Nigerian to relocate to Mozambique. There are better countries in the world you can travel to.

forget all this poorest country you talking about, you're on saying that to condone yourself and Nigeria, and I still stand with the fact that you've got 80% chance of succeeding here in terms of business than in Nigeria, you're talking about population, how many normal Nigerian as a population helped apart from the top dogs with political links and godfathers.

Yes Nigeria is a very big attraction to foreign investors because we've got a large population no dispute but those foreign investors can easily buy the people in power to favor their business rather than that of a citizen/ordinary Nigerian.

I still stand with my words, you can continue with your economist evaluation and 180m population that doesn't help a ordinary Nigerian.

Come here and see how an ordinary Nigerian is operating a female hair salon and building houses in Nigeria, in Nigeria even his friends won't want to patronize him/her...

All said and done, I still stand with my initial statement

I am here and I've had encounter with different nationals who are doing business here, ppl from SA, UK, USA, Brazil, Portugal and China, they all told me they had people doing business in Nigeria but they've all packed up about five years ago, so I know what am saying.

They prefer doing business here than in Nigeria, now this is not a matter of population, if you want I can go and interview all this guys all over again with their voices recorded.

You're in Nigeria, come down here and evaluate things before talking, don't judge with what you read on the paper.

Thank u.

Pls let's understand what the op is saying..

Yes Nigeria has a large population which connotes a larger market for Foreign investors.. But these investors re already business tycoons who come to exploit and enlarge there businesses.. So an average Nigerian moving to Mozambique may not be seen as a "Foreign investor".

The Op have mentioned the kind of businesses that thrive in Mozambique.. Barbing, boutique, Restaurants etc.. These are the normal business an average Nigerian do.. No foreign investor will come to Nigeria to open a barbing salon because Nigeria has d population..

Lets understand what the OP is saying b4 talking about "FOREIGN INVESTORS".

So It may not be advisable for large scale foreign investors to invest in Mozambique.. But an average Nigerian can thrive in Mozambique and exploit the little opportunities there.. Simple.

You think I am judging with what I read on newspaper? Last time i checked, I told you I am an economist working with an international organization. I have travelled to several African countries for working purposes. So I am talking from reality. I have no problem if you are sharing diary of your vacation in Mozambique with Nigerians. I am good with it. But comparing Mozambique with Nigeria in terms of economic, business and job opportunities, then you have gone too far.

You are talking about foreigners in Mozambique running small businesses like hair salon, restaurant etc in Mozambique. Do you know that Nigeria have over 17 millions of SMEs business? SMEs business such as tailoring, barbing, catering and baking, hair dressing, welding, vulcanizing, mechanics etc are the large source of employment and income for Nigerians. And the number of SMEs business in Nigeria is still growing more.

I won't make comments on this thread again. A word is enough for the wise. Good day.

Your coloration is wrong given that you have American leaving the richest country in the world to relocate and do business in some of the poorest countries including Mozambique

Most people wouldn't make any negative comment about a Nigerian moving to Trinidad. What does Trinidad has to offer better than Mozambique? It seems like we should embrass any country that is out of Africa

By the way, have you been to Mozambique?

Mr ECONOMIST GURU SIR, yes we know Nigeria has the richest economy in Africa yet has the highest poverty rate in Africa. You talk like a typical successful Nigerian living in Nigeria. Please use your educated mind to research about realities rather than quoting your economic figures. I know a dozen of people , living in poverty or struggling in Nigeria but had to relocate to Mozambique and they are doing fine now. Infact most of them send money back home to their struggling siblings. My uncles living in Mozambique are extremely rich doing business in Mozambique. They enjoy the life more than in Nigeria. Most of these poor countries in GDP you bash, have steady electricity, good roads, pipe-borne water security as you don't worry of being kidnapped or assassinated. Yes there are poor people, but as a Nigerian if you are hardworking, its very easy to succeed in your business than in Nigeria. Most Successful Nigerians living in Nigeria thinks that every body in Nigeria has money like them, look around in your street, village, town are see hopeless and poverty raging through your neighborhoods. Suffering and smiling thaT's what we are yet.
