FA Cup: Conte Fears Iheanacho, Vardy As Chelsea Face Leicester

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte believes his players must be ready to work hard to stop Leicester City’s trio of Nigeria forward Kelechi Iheanacho, who has scored important goals in the competition, Jamie Vardy and Shinji Okazaki in Sunday’s Emirates FA Cup quarter-finals.

After their disappointing exit in the UEFA Champions League to Barcelona, Chelsea’s attention now shifts to the FA Cup where they will face Leicester in the last eight.

The Blues’ only hope of silverware this season now lies in the FA Cup after almost certainly surrendring the Premier League title, crashing out of the Champions League and also the Carabao Cup.

“We have special plans to try and defend well,” said Conte during his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“We all know Vardy’s characteristics. He is a clever player and is very good at finding the right time to attack the space and we must pay great attention to him and Iheanacho and Okazaki.”
Conte reflected on their last encounter against Leicester in the Premier League which the Blues won 2-1.

“Two years ago they won title. They want to fight a lot, in the last game we played them we suffered a lot,” the Italian added.

“They put us under a lot of pressure and ran a lot. They have very dangerous players and we must play great attention for that reason.”

Conte praised both his goalkeepers Thibaut Courtois, who came under fire for his performance against Barcelona in the Champions League in midweek, and Willy Caballero.

“Thibaut Courtois and Willy Caballero are both great goalkeepers. We don’t have rules for competition. On Sunday I will try to make the best decision because we want to go to the next round,” Conte stated.

The former Juventus boss expressed his sadness that Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League but said they have to put the disappointment behind them.

He said: “It was pity to go out of the Champions League, but this is the life and now we must have great confidence and trust in our strength to move on.”

And on Gary Cahill being dropped from England’s squad for their upcoming friendlies, Conte said: “My aim is to have my players in the best form for Chelsea, and then it is up to national team managers whether they select our players for their squads.”

Kayode Targets Goals, UCL With Shakhtar, Declares: I’m Not Like Aghahowa
By Nurudeen Obalola

Nigeria striker Olarenwaju Kayode has insisted that he is not similar to former Super Eagles striker Julius Aghahowa, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Kayode just joined Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk on loan from Manchester City and dismissed suggestions that he has similar traits to Aghahowa, who was a big hit at the Ukrainian giants in two spells between 2000 and 2012.

When Kayode was asked by Ukrainian reporters on Friday if he would compare himself with the Super Eagles 2002 World Cup star, he replied in an interview published on Shakhtar’s official website: “Julius is a great striker and a good man. But I don’t think we’re similar. Everyone has particular qualities. I’ve been training and looking forward to the moment when I’ll showcase mine.”

The former Austria Wien striker, who has been handed the No.88 jersey at Shakhtar, expressed his delight at joining the Ukrainian club after a torrid six-month loan spell at LaLiga newcomers Girona.

“I’m really impressed to be here,” he added. “I am happy to be a Shakhtar player! My dream came true to some extent because I’ve been watching the club for a long time – it’s fantastic. And they have great players. My objective is to work hard and to benefit the Miners.”

The 24-year-old Super Eagles striker then described himself as an all-rounder who is always looking to improve.

When asked about his best qualities, he said: “Probably, all of them. If you’re not perfect with your skills, it’s important to work on yourself, to get knowledge from the coach, to understand how the team play, and to be getting better tactically. All this helps me to perform at the proper level.”

Kayode is confident he can deal with teams that become ultra-defensive when they face Shakhtar.

“Yes, I’ve repeatedly faced such rivals. I don’t see this as a problem. I’ll be as focused as possible to prove myself in the best possible way,” he said, before stating his targets at Shakhtar.

“I really want to take part in the Champions League. And my objective’s just one – scoring goals and help Shakhtar with the teamwork.”

Maybe so but having pace moves you from average too exceptional.

Is having pace as a DM in your opinion a disadvantage

What do you think marks out Fernandinho as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world Amongst his many attributes.
Sergio Busquets is one of the slowest DMs but that doesn't prevent him from fulfilling his potential as one of the best in the World.

Its just like you're insinuating that a central defender has to posses a scoring ability or a blistering pace for him to perform his duties as a defender. Look at these players and tell me if they know what pace is :Per Martesaker, Puyol, Terry. Ogu is a defensive midfielder... a deep sitting one and not a roaming one which has the freedom to join the attack and buildups like Ndidi, Joel or Etebo if deployed there.

So you before you made your allegations you had not got substantive information so you made the allegations based on assumption in the negative.

Sir Chriskels.... This Jordan Torunarigha rumor. Reports say the NFF have approached him and have offered him a slot in the WC team as part of our defence. I know you had something for us and you said you didn't wanna play spoilsport.... Well, I just dey ask in a whisper... Could this be it? Or your undercover news na another matter entirely? wink

My personal Opinion and fantasy: wink I really hope we can land Torunarigha ahead of Russia if there is a chance at all. That lad is impressive and is at least ready to step into the GWG colors based on his quality and Bundesliga exposure.

Na him and Uduokhai my undercover agent tell me say are possibilities after some ex internationals talked sense into his father. U and I read where uduokhai said he was open to repping the Eagles. Hopefully the news will be clearer soon. Personally, I don't rate Akpoguma. I bn no wan talk anything on it till d matter ripe well but since it has bn leaked...
