tbaba1234:Really none of them is without faults. Ekong is one guy whom with pressing can easily give the ball away in dangerous areas but what I like about him is that he never looks fazed. He is a very confident guy. It was in the match against Argentina that I appreciated how organised we were defensively but then enano (the dwarf) can throw any defense into disarray. Hopefully we should have done the job before we meet Argentina sha |

Odunayaw:*smiles* yes we do have such scenarios pan out every weeks across the world. But, if you check my post, I used phrases like 'football knowledge', 'must you concede much' just to buttress my point. Last year or so, we saw one of football greatest comebacks. Barcelona overturning a huge deficit, scoring 6 past PSG at home to ensure their progress to the next stage of CL. Do you know who was mocked/blamed? It was PSG's coach. Do you know why? Because he wasn't smart enough. Everyone knows that it's always tough playing against the north africans most especially at their home. A draw against them is even seen as a good result. A smart coach who is going away with an advantage will set up his team in a more defensive and compact way to minimize any form of damage the north africans can cause. What are we even saying sef. 6-0 is too much. No wonder their coach said 'he does not know MFM FC' when interviewed. |

Sainty92: Of course, I know Iheanacho is better than Tammy currently but statistically speaking, Tammy Abraham is ahead for now this season. That's it. Please, take note that Abraham scored goals last month with an assist this month. |

Mujtahida: Balogun carried his poor run of games from the last 2 or 3 WC qualifiers into that Argentina game. After the Algeria game I started raising questions about Balogun's dwindling form but Tbaba1234 and some others said Balogun should not be criticized. Kenneth Omeruo came in for Balogun in the second half of the Argentina friendly and combined almost seamlessly well with Ekong and Awaziem. Nobody made a remark about that value added substitution. Omeruo brought stability to that backline. But no accolades for the lad. Why because it is Kenneth Omeruo, a player that is not on the good books of many here. If Balogun continues with the kind of shambolic displays as he had in his last 3 games....well I trust Rohr to do the needful. 1 Like |

Icon4s: Balogun had very strong displays before his apparent fall in form. The drop in fall coincided with less playing time at club level. His club appearances have improved now. In the games, where he was poor, he improved as the games progressed.. Against Argentina, Balogun had already improved his performance before he was removed. Infact, the Nigerian defence had improved a lot in the second half. Omeruo did very well, when he came on but it was not as if he stabilized the defence. The defence was not really under much pressure in that second half. Anyway, let us see their performances in the friendlies first.. 4 Likes |

tbaba1234: Bros, if it was another player that had the Balogun kind of display in those games, I don't think we will be saying the same story we are saying now.I know what I am talking about No player should be above criticism. I didn't just want to carry on with that argument that day. And Lo it repeated itself against Argentina. We cannot be having a player at the heart of the defence with a shaky start. We can find ourselves 3goals down within those 20-30mins of shakiness I say again, if he gives out another shaky start in his next game, Rohr should please do the needful. We already have the headache of going to the WC with below par goalkeepers and then on top of it we will have one central defender with a shaky start. That can be suicidal! You are only as good as your last game. In his last 3games he had shambolic first 30mins. We cannot afford that in the WC. He has the next couple of friendlies to correct those previous poor run of games. Else..... hmmm 1 Like |

Icon4s: You are correct but in a sense, it is like when Enyeama makes a mistake, it is easy to make excuses because of his good games. But i agree, if he does not show marked improvements in the friendlies, he should be benched at the WC.. |

Is Dessers having a problem with his coach or what, that lad keeps scoring any chance he gets but yet he's always confined to the bench every other match day. He came on for his team at the 84th minute and scored in the 88th minute to get a point for his team. 3 Likes |

FALSE 1. They expect they would beat the competition. And truly, it can go either way. Nigeria is not a weak football nation. 2. Nigerian authorities are likely the ones given them that impression especially with manner they are being courted. But yet again, NFF is not the coach. Rohr will not give anyone automatic slot going by his past utterances. Depending on when the final 23 will be named I expect anyone who will make that least to have at least played in one of the friendlies. Curtisaxel7: 1 Like |

Icon4s:Omeruo needs to be consistent to be able to convince Rohr and Nigerians that he has improved (or he's back to his game). Just one good performance doesn't spring you up the perking order after so many dismal performances in a team where you have lost the coaches and the Fans' trust and attracting question marks about your quality as a player. Balogun isn't really doing well for Eaglesin the last few games but he earned his loyalty and patience form the coach and we the fans with consistent and very impressive performances. 2 Likes |

MetalJigsaw: Aside the game against South Africa in 2014 and the mis-skewed header against Zambia in Ndola which are years apart tell which other game he had a dismal performance for the SE. I know Balogun's past performances have been speaking for him but what of Omeruo's past performances? We're they not good enough to speak for him? 1 Like |

tbaba1234: Kick-off for that game was 8:45pm. It was played under freezing cold conditions and under flood lights. Two major factors that normally work against teams from the sub-Saharan Africa. Immediately I saw that kickoff time, I knew what will follow is a humiliating defeat. Meanwhile Plateau United have moved their own game to 2pm. Hahahaha. Dem won take the Kano heat finish those Tunisians. Taking the weather as an advantage. I hope it works for them sha. 8 Likes |

Icon4s:You have spoken my mind. Apart from being poor he tends to be jittery. He himself said so much in an interview I watched about his performance in the first half against Zambia. If you recall in our match at home to cameroun he took him some time before he stabilised. Meanwhile Ekong gets into stride from the blast of the whistle. Ekong makes mistakes but he is always confident. Please watch our match with Argentina again, watch Balogun's movement you will find that the confidence wasn't there. Sometimes I don't mind mistakes but just be confident. Like you noted Omeruo came in and solidified the defence. Me I'm always switching ooo from player to player based on performance. I am faithful to quality and performance not to any player per se. For now I trust Omeruo than Balogun. Yet it is that same Omeruo many here are touting should give way for young inexperienced German born players. Omeruo is not just experienced. He has also been playing regularly for his club unlike Echiejile. There's no experienced quality in our backline oooo. |

The Icon4s:The shaky start is the main problem. We are here talking meanwhile other teams are ruthlessly and rigorously studying each of our players to the minutest, microscopic levels. Our defence might just not be as strong as we think ooo. It takes just one match and the softspots in our defence might be exposed. For now Omeruo is better than Balogun. Since Balogun takes time to warm into a match let him be coming from the bench. No sentiments abeg. We know Omeruo, Ekong and Awaziem have faults but they are sharp and sprightly from the blast of the whistle. Meanwhile Balogun be booting like old desktop (forgive me, just couldn't resist saying that) |

Besides I feel he is been called with an eye on replacing Balogun if not now then post world cup as you said..... Make him pick d call first.. Rohr is just securing the future of our eagles team.... I can only say good job.... Well done |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Kog45(m): 7:35am On Mar 18, 2018 |
Mujtahida:Yes you are spot on on Balogun but i believe a fit Balogun is a better choice and also Omeruo i knew should be in 23 man squad cos in 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 Omeruo is better than Awaziem but in 3-5-2 I will go for Awaziem. Good to for us that we have options for our different formations and hope to see a very fit defenders at WC. Oh Echiejele only sentiments will take him to WC,nothing more cos no short cut to performance in football cos we have been saying it that he has lost his form but some argued it but what are we seen now with his club performance, poor form. |

Mujtahida:Abeg which Omeruo, the one who's bound to always make one costly mistake every match that will always results to a goal. Balogun might be slow, but he reads the game very well. I love his brutal nature, an attribute of a leader that can lead from the back. 7 Likes |
