ItzBIM: God bless you. I find it far easier to work and make my money here, and then go on holidays to the UK or any other foreign country I fancy, for just about 2-3 weeks max. I just cannot live in the UK for a long stretch of time. It is too cold, too sterile, too routine and just too mind numbing for me. I know a number of people who finance their lifestyles abroad, with funds earned from their investments and properties, in Nigeria. |

As a person who often visits the US for vacation, my advise is that if you are young and with few responsibilities or without a good job in Nigeria, by all means leave Nigeria... Travel is also a great form of education.. If you are over forty and have a very good job in Nigeria or a young individual working in an Oil company with a fat salary, do not leave it to pursue rubbish abroad... Truth is, living abroad offers everyone an equal opportunity to success (to a very reasonable extent)..IT's NOT A BED OF ROSES, BUT IT REWARDS hard working people... If you are a LEGAL RESIDENT, you respect the law, hardworking, pay your taxes, you can live a very decent life and aim higher... A decent life abroad is a Rich life in Nigeria when compared..... 11 Likes 1 Share |

Ishilove: I am shocked that someone that calls himself a professor would attempt to weave a bunch of lies and half truths in an attempt to support his spurious assertion that life in Nigeria/Ghana is better than life in America. We all know that it is a lie so let us not deceive ourselves. The bolded is an outright LIE! How many Nigerians in Nigeria can afford to pay 320,000 for a Galaxy S9? A Galaxy S9 costs roughly $900 and even a person working a low income job in Walmart earning say $2000 can afford to buy one. Let us do the math, For a Nigerian living in Nigeria to be able to afford a Galaxy S9, he should earn at least 640,000 monthly. Please how many people do you know earn 640,000 a month? If you are going to lie please don't make it an obvious lie. You should be thankful that you can spread the cost of a brand new premium phone over the span of 3 years rather than being ungrateful. How many folks in Nigeria can spread the cost of a phone over the period of even a year? Which would you rather do, pay for the phone at once or pay over a span of 3 years? Besides it is not by force to use the latest Samsung phones. If you can't afford it, for heavens sake there are OTHER affordable phones you can buy. CUT YOUR COAT ACCORDING TO YOUR CLOTH! In summary what I see is a man that is not financially responsible and is buying things he cannot afford all in a desire to please people. If you are NOT financially responsible in Nigeria, you would not be financially responsible in America 5 Likes |

What is truly baffling is that most of us are missing the point (message) of the original post. Also, the type of pressure which make some of the guys out there not want to return is so glaring. First of all, only a very lucky few go abroad and within a space of 6-12 months, become very financially okay. From what I can see, the average person takes about 3-5 years and a lot of work to make it. The worst ones are those that do not have legit paperwork, they could potentially take more time and work to gain some stability in life. The second point is the reason why many folks abroad do not want to return is that they have not yet attained the perceived level of wealth or social status that justifies their leaving naija in the first place. This is most usually a perception of the larger society, sometimes it is actually just imagined or over-exaggerated in the person's mind, but it is there and very real! The third point I wish to make is, we that are back at home, we do not see the process - we do not see the struggle, work, pain and effort. We only see the "enjoyment" part. In the end, every individual decides for themselves if the enjoyment at the end is worth going through the process. Keep in mind, that after making this assessment, many will keep the truth at the bottom of their heart to themselves and tell a different tale outside! 3 Likes |

sharpwriter:Irresponsibility. Or simply not knowing how it works. I mean some people use payday loans that were so unregulated some used to charge 1000%APR! I believe they've been capped now about 50% but even at that, their existence explains a lot. A lot of people cannot manage their finances, live beyond their means thus getting trapped by mounting debt. |

RuuDie:I agree with you. However, l library doesn't close on Federal holidays though only on Thanksgiving, New Year and Christmas(3 days in a year) ,But let us assume they close on Federal holidays too and don't allow those without card from 11pm to 7pm(Although other ID like drivers license are acceptable). The root of the argument is that someone said there is free internet access abroad. Is the time available between 7am to 11pm everyday not enough for the person access free internet, books and other resources.? |
