yesss... what I thought, most people do so too...the phone companies also make us believe so
Its our responsibility to know so manufacturers won't get the best of us, if we knew this earlier, am sure the megapixel war wouldn't have started, we would have been enjoying better camera qualities in general with lesser mega pixels, but since we thought megapixel means better pics, they used cheaper / weaker camera sensors with higher megapixels, and we paid more for less. Also there is currently the 'ram' race, many of us also think that higher ram translates to better faster speed and better multitasking, hence they pay a premium price for weak 4/6 gig ram devices that can't even stand good 3 gig ram devices, smh.

On this camera tory, in politicians voice, I will say "the eyes have it."

Detail is good but if the image is not good to the human eyes, people will always complain and you can't blame them.

I believe this camera wars will stop when xiaomi do the needful. Fix the camera mess!

Many of the redmi phones have relatively poor image quality despite having fairly decent camera specifications.
They excel in every other area (processors, display, miui, battery, etc) but the camera......hmmmmm. Excellent under this condition, below standard in other situations.

In my experience sha, dating back from Redmi 2 to awaiting RN5 and MN3, yes in low light the images suck (but this applies to most phone cameras across board too) but in good light and some tweaks in manual mode, you'll be surprised with the good outputs that even a low grade phone camera can generate.
A lot of times, the complainants don't even familiarize with the workings of the camera but rather remain in auto/default settings and sum up that the camera sucks. I've seen folks bitching that they've been scammed after buying expensive DSLRs and Mirroless saying that output was poor without bothering to know that you can't get the best out of cameras without working with the settings. I mean, that's why they were put there in the first place. Anyway, wetin I sabi ..?

True, knowing that Xiaomi ensures both lowest and highest ranked phones enjoy exactly the same software, if camera difference is not much, then flashships will be no brainers.

Very correct, I wonder if many persons here have made use of or even know when to use HDR in their cameras. The HDR of the Redmi note 4x is really good in outdoors, some persons still doubt I snapped some pics with a phone.
This was taken on a very hot Saturday, the Sun was all out, normally your camera should either expose the building properly and over expose/blow out the sky or get the right exposure of the sky while leaving the building all dark, but HDR the balance, both sky and building properly exposed.

People wey dey find better picture samples for their Xiaomi devices, instead of jumping from one phone wagon to the other, why don't you just simply root your phone and get Google Cam working on your device?

It's very easy. I assure you that you'll forget that you were complaining about bad camera.

I reviewed the Hot S back then when I started reviewing phones. Camera is not bad at all.

I think the people getting angry because most users don't like the camera quality are unreasonable.

Some Xiaomi phone cameras are not that great compared to other phones in the same price range, that's the simple truth. New users opinions are valid so trying to debunk it would lead to unnecessary argument. If some marketers feel they know too much, they should review the camera or compare with everything else they've seen.

At the end of the day, you can't force a horse to drink.

It's not even that manufacturer sucks sef, it's just that camera is the achilles heel of most 2017 Xiaomi phones. Xiaomi gains points by using snapdragon processors and loses points from camera. I kuku don't use camera like that but the default RN 5 pro camera is great from the reviews I've seen.

Xiaomi should try to make HDR be on automatic settings like Tecno has done.
If it's off by default, majority of users would never think to turn it at the point of taking a picture outdoors coz HDR takes a long time to process a photo and people aren't that patient.

Xiaomi takes a lot of UI cues from Apple and Apple prides itself in being user friendly and easy for beginners.

Should mobile phone cameras really take that much camera expertise to produce photos of mobile phone camera quality?

Like the Xiaomi they're complaining about is not going to win any awards on specs but is one of the best spec for it's price in terms of numbers.
Now if they buy based on megapixel numbers expecting it to be like Camon CX with the "same" 16MP but don't get the real life WOW factor in the camera, they could start feeling like all the other specs are not going to translate. That feeling is valid.

Camon CX was advertised based on Camera and Camera centric...

All they are trying to tell the guy is MP does not mean better camera.. as he expected.. You can't compare CX camera to Mi 5 camera both are 16MP

For those that care to learn.. grin

MP count is like a Frame.. just like you have 21 inch TV..

There is also Micron which is the resolution on the camera, we can say SD, HD, FHD and 4k..

You do not expect an SD resolution TV/monitor to be sharp than a 4K type even though they are both 21" TV

In addition there is OIS, Aperture, dual pixel and others that adds to camera quality..

OEM we're going the incremental S5 was 16MP.. then 12MP was introduced.. now 12PM seems to be the standard...

While some OEM still use MP counts but Google nanaged to produce the best camera phone that has only 12MP..
