I've had this argument countless times with my friends.
Cost of living in Abuja is cheaper that Lagos when we consider the basic necessities of life:

Food: Raw and healthy food/Fruits is cheaper and fresher in Abuja. Lagos has more cheap and tasteless Iyabasira joints, agreed, but in Abj, it's all fresh and u cook to your taste. (Excluding Igbo ingredients).

Housing: in Abj, you either live in the suburbs or in town, however, I consider their houses cheap. If u find a house for 300k, with 330k you can close the deal. 10% commission and you pack in. In Lagos, Landlord tells u 300k, pls budget 700k cus by the time they do all those agency and commission and all those trash maths for u, u will be wrecked pocket wise.

Transport:. Good road network in Abj, cheap and affordable cab service, decent none-Uber cabs.

The only cheap thing in Lag is commodities like clothing, shoes and all those ready made stuff cus of Port and industry presence.

I've lived in both places, I'm currently in Lag and the difference is clear
.

Please help specify the type of house you're talking about here.
Is it self-conT. 1,2,3 bedroom flat??

Thanks

Oga haba.u too fear God. How can u enter drop from kubwa to central area and u want them to take 200 or 400
If u want along .u must take two cabs.
A driver won't leave a full load of 1200 to carry u for 400h
oga I wasn't the one dat said dat.

Accomodation is far cheaper in Abuja than Lagos. There are suburbs that you will still get descent accommodation under 400k for a 2 bedroom flat and if you factor security. road network and general serenity, Abuja trumps Lagos. How much is a flat in Egbeda going for now? 500-600K!

Abuja has the best road network in Nigeria and transportation in Abuja is far cheaper than Lagos. You can get a drop from Kubwa to the Airport for 2,500k - a distance of more than 50km! That is twice the distance from Oshodi to Apapa. How much does it cost to take a drop from Apapa to V.I? Or those your useless wooden chair danfos that cost about 400 naira from Allen to Obalende?

Abuja may not have a high density of oloshos but olosho still dey and far better than those smelly Lagos girls. Because I know what you meant by night life you are referring to Olosho joints.

Talk of joints and you have a retinue of serene gardens and parks you can go and relax. Security also makes Abuja far better than Lagos. Out of boredom when I first arrived Abuja, I will leave my then resident at Lugbe FHA and drive to Wuse 2 around 2am. Can I try that nonesene in omota lagos?

Boys come to Abuja and become Men. Property business is booming and virtually any other venture. If you want a 9-5 remain in your urban jungle

how easy is it for one to get a job in abuja ...i need a job in abj

You're right, but any single opportunity you get in Abuja will worth more than anyone you get in Lagos

Cost of living is cheap in Abuja OP depending on the part, same as Lagos. Places like Suleja, lugbe, Kubwa, nyanya, apo, karimo, jahi, kado-kuchi, jabi-village, dutse,

houses are cheaper in those places, but maitama, asokoro, Central Area, gwarrimpa, wuse, are costlier just like lekki Ajah ikoyi etc

Please add ur voice to my inquiry

I agree with you...but cost of living in Abuja....thing is, if you want to live in the city, your rent would be out of this world.

If you have a car though, better to live in the satellite towns.

If you are looking to know if it is better to work in Lagos than Abuja, then this post would help. For a long time, there has been a debate between Abuja vs. Lagos, which is a better city to work has been ongoing. In this post, I will list out 5 good reasons why I believe is it better to work in Lagos than Abuja, especially for young graduates who are starting off their careers.

No doubt, most cities have so many things in common, which makes it quite difficult in making a choice. However, there are certain unique truths that can’t be uncovered if you haven’t stayed in any of the locations.

I will show you the 5 Reasons why you should work in Lagos than Abuja

You're very correct, except for the Transportation aspect. Transport in ABJ is relatively cheap and they have very good road network here
Cost of Living

If you want a reason why you should work in Lagos than Abuja, then you should consider the cost of living in the two cities. The average cost of living in Abuja is two times higher than that of Lagos. In Lagos, you can find houses that can fit your budget perfectly. Depending on the location you find yourself, you can spend according to your budget. When it comes to living in Abuja, the average cost of living is almost on the high side irrespective of the location.

Job Opportunities

Unless you are thinking of becoming a politician, then you should consider starting up your career in Lagos. Your chances of switching jobs in Lagos are higher than that of Abuja. Majority of the job openings in Nigeria are seen in Lagos, as compared to Abuja.

Most of the job openings in Abuja are either government jobs or private companies who can’t pay you a reasonable amount of salary to foot your cost of living in the city.

Mode of Transportation

If you don’t have a car in Abuja, then you’d probably have a hard time moving from one part of the city to another. But when it comes to transport network and payments, Lagos is absolutely the best. When it comes to deciding whether you should work in Lagos than Abuja, then this should be a great determinant. Your safety might not be guaranteed in Lagos when it comes to the use of public transportation, but it is relatively cheaper and very efficient – especially when you have mastered it.

Fun Activities/Nightlife

After a stressful day/week, if you are looking for the perfect city to enable you wind down, then Lagos is the perfect catch. Nightlife and other activities are almost not in existence in Abuja, which makes the social life in the city boring. Lagos offers several activities that can make you quickly erase all the stress of the week and day.

Money Making Opportunities

In Lagos, there are several money making opportunities. Your chances of making money when you work in Lagos are higher than that of Abuja. When you work in Lagos, you can have other side hustles that can fetch you money easily. You can easily combine several jobs to be able to pay several bills. This is because of the availability of jobs openings in Nigeria.

When it comes to a decision to work in Lagos or Abuja, these points should be able to help you make a choice.

I disagree with the transport part. I was born and raised in Lagos but I am working in Abuja.
Transport in Abuja is quite cheaper than you have in Lagos. Traffics do not get congested almost everywhere like you have in Lagos and the roads in Abuja are way better than Lagos roads. They city plans are also perfect to create good road networks.
So, in terms of roads and transportation, Abuja has it over Lagos

It actually depends on your source of income. I wouldn't advise any Corp member to come to Abuja without a solid blueprint of how they intend to survive. Accommodation is the major challenge especially if you work in the Central Business District, you wouldn't want to live too faraway from your place of work and so the closer you are to town the more expensive and the ridiculous the prices of accommodation. Weigh your option very well before making the decision to live in Abuja, many people i know had to run back to Lagos or their State capitals.

@op, leave our abuja for us like that. Lagos people luv the drama and stress of everything there. They like choas and noise, they abhor proper organised settings and life. Yes there are more opportunities in lagos that's largely because of the population and the seaport. Abuja is quiet and serene and everyone respect each other.

Accommodation is cheaper in Abuja, you can work in the city center and live in suleja, jahi, nyanyan and other affordable areas. The good thing is that the transport system is very effective that it will allow you live in these areas and get to work on time

This is the biggest lies I have ever read on the internet, the only truth I can see there is that there are more jobs in Lagos than Abuja, most Abuja jobs are government and private companies that don't pay reasonably.

You can get a self contained as low as 60k and one room at 35k in ado and maska axis of Abuja, road network is Abuja is more than superb, you can move from one location to another easily, navigation is second to none in this country..

You can't spend more 1hr on a very bad day on hold up maybe around nyanya road, u can wake up around 7 and get to work before 8am in town if you live in nyanya

I watched a documentary on TVC where a guy who work in the port leave home by 4am and get to work around 10am, that's insanity...

Cost of feeding is relatively low as Abuja is close to benue, Niger and plaeteue state where they farm and grow crops a lot.
You can get a plate of rice for 150-250 depending on the location.

hello.
i cam see alk the deluded people here claiming abuja is better than lagos on so many grounds. thats a lir!!

the only area i think abuja beats lag is in the affordability of tp and not too congested roads. apart from that, lagos beats abj hands down in all other areas, especially security. ABUJA IS JUST AN OVERHYPED CITY, RND OR DISCUSSION.

i will return back to the thread on saturday or sunday when i will have all the time in the world to debuk that big lie many peoplr have come to believe.

apart from roads, which is already been fixed in lagos, abuja has NO OTHER ADVANTAGE OVER LAGOS.
Re: 5 Reasons It Is Better To Work In Lagos Than Abuja by MiddleDimension: 4:12pm On Mar 22, 2018
only advantage abj has over lag are: better roads, affordable food and cheaper transport. THATS ALL!
Re: 5 Reasons It Is Better To Work In Lagos Than Abuja by MiddleDimension: 4:17pm On Mar 22, 2018
you should ask yourself why Lagos remains Nigeria's flag ship city. Lagos is a entire culture of its own! all the things Nigeria is knoen for, especially Abroad, were birthed in lagos. LAGOS SHAPES NIGERIA, NIGERIA DOSENT SHAPE LAGOS.

LAGOS GIVES NIGERIA ITS IDENTITY, PERIOD!
