The ONSA through the DSS was responsible for giving BH free passage to return the girls, as you See no weapons with them & Soldiers were ordered to stand down
It appears that deep punch was followed with ceasefire & talks ,
Moderates within BH albarnawi lake chad faction were responsible for getting their colleagues to respect the agreement and return the girls, Govt is now taking advantage of talks for possible cessation of hostilities. But shekau faction in the madara Mt & Sambisa may return to hostilities, the theater commander has said his troops are waiting for green light to begin offensive

Can you explain somethings here that don't make any sense...

1. what kind of negotiation(back channel or whatever) that supposedly includes 5m euros& prisoner swaps to secure the release of the girls leaves out one victim because she's supposedly a christian and won't convert to islam? Is it that BH breached the terms of there agreement or what?

2. Is there no consquence for the 5 deceased girls? so bokoharam just gets a pass and there is even unconditional amnesty for so called repentant terrorists?

3. what is the motivation of the locals taking selfies with the BH terrorists? even if the military and Nig security apparatus stood down, why do the people there accepts these terrorists like they are brothers?

4. Is the DSS not complicit in this abductions? or how else do you explain a whole govt doing biz with terrorists.it's now looking like anytime BH is broke just kidnap some girls and they are looking at least 3m euros in cash grin.....good business for corrupt security officials and offcourse BH

On BH with locals, you don't expect them to act otherwise to a group returning their daughters and it doesn't demonstrate any local support for the group

BH said NO RANSOM WAS PAID

They were released
The NA were ordered by the T. C MAJ. GEN to STAND DOWN
They stood down
The only condition the AL- BARNAWI insisted on was that they bring the GIRLS back.

Really shocked... so we are supposed to believe that BH out of the generosity/kindness of their hearts suddenly had a change of mind without anything to return the girls. So BH now has a conscience or what? they have suddenly grown a heart...something isn't adding up.

the locals jubilating with the abductors doesn't demonstrate any kind of support for the groups? this gets stranger by the day...

what about the girl left behind? what's the rationale for that one?

I’m scared that our military is really being distracted by this insurgency, at this point they probably don’t even focus on conventional threats anymore. Imagine we are at a point were we have to buy armored vehicles to protect air bases and not air defense equipment.

It's not distraction. The money no just dey. Air defence systems are really expensive. Even to buy MRAPS, it's not easy.

If the political will is there money will come out somehow even if it is in form of a loan, I’m not a fear monger or one of them doomsday people but we don’t have to wait until it’s too late and then apply fire brigade approach.

You've said it, political will. This is what we lack. When the senators move around with convoy filled with police / military. Do they know there's also another security which is off the country's sovereignity.

The only guys that can encourage the politicians to release enough funds and probably increase budgets to procure such things in my own opinion still remains the intelligence agencies.

OSCAR NOMINEE SHORT FILM "WATU WOTE” SCREENS AT TALANTA THEATRE, MOI AIR BASE

Critically acclaimed Kenyan-German short movie “Watu Wote” screened for the first time in Kenya after it was nominated for an Oscar, on Friday, 23 March 2018 at the Talanta Theatre, Moi Air Base, Eastleigh Nairobi.

More than two hundred people attended the special military screening of the short film. The Commander, Kenya Air Force Major General Samuel Thuita who was accompanied by the Base Commander, Moi Air Base Brig M A Badi, graced the afternoon session. Others in attendance were; Kenya Air Force Senior officers, officers, service personnel, teachers and students from the Moi Air Base Primary and the Moi Forces Academy Secondary school.

The 26 minute 2017 short film is based on a true account of the December 2015 terrorists attack on a Mandera bound bus.
Watu Wote (All of us) was directed by German Katja Benrath as her graduation project at Hamburg Media School (Germany), and it brought together more than 120 people in various production roles drawn from Germany and Kenya, 95% of them being Kenyans.

The film has been entered in over 60 International Film Festivals and has won 40 awards, the highest being a Student Academy Award for Best International Film (Gold Plaque) in 2017. In 2018 at the 90th Academy Awards, the film won the nomination for Best Live Action Short Film.

It tells the story of Jua, a Christian living in Kenya, who boards a bus to visit a relative in Mandera and is uncomfortable being surrounded by Muslim passengers. The bus is stopped by the violent terrorist group Al-Shabaab, whose members demanded that the Muslims identify the Christian passengers. This opens to the turning point of the resilience by Muslims in the bus, although afraid, and facing the danger of being shot dead, the Muslims on board the bus elect to defy the militants. No Christian is singled out or identified.

In the process, two of the passengers are shot, one of them being Salah Abdow Farah, who declined to identify Christians even at gun point. One of the passenger dies on spot and Farah succumbs to his injuries two weeks later.

The Kenya Film Commission Liaison and Production Manager Caroline Njoroge, Krysteen Savane the production manager, Bramwel Iro who was service producer and actors Gerald Langiri, Mohamed Salim and Saada Mohamed were part of the cast and crew who attended the event and interacted with the audience. They responded to questions regarding the origin, script, filming and the traction the movie had received in the counter-terror effort.

Speaking at the event, Commander, Kenya Air Force Major General Samuel Thuita expressed his delight in being part of the audience. He appreciated the role young producers in the country were playing especially in creating products that focus on social change, counter-terrorism, patriotism and character development.

The Commander urged the audience particularly the students from Moi Forces Academy to be conscious that they are possible targets of radicalisation as depicted in the movie and challenged everyone to emulate the character of Salah Abdow Farah who shunned religious division to save the lives of fellow passengers in the attack. He reminded the audience that the President Uhuru Kenyatta, awarded late Salah Abdow Farah the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya posthumously, by for his act of courage. Mr Farah, a Muslim teacher who until his death was the deputy headteacher of Mandera Township Primary School, was shot as he shielded non-Muslims on the bus, it is his character that emboldens the war on terror by Kenyans for Kenya.

“I challenge all of us to learn from this short film and realize that no matter where we come from, as Kenyans we need each other. Let us reject all forms of discrimination and religious separation and continue to look out for each other.”Maj General Samuel N Thuita, Commander, Kenya Air Force.

The Kenya Air Force theatre troupe were also in attendance and offered an opportunity to be mentored by the cast and crew present during the screening.

No be really distraction, na money as Dayo rightly said. As it is sef na gidigbo NAF de use wrestle money from those agbada wearing scoundrels. Just imagine CAS including in the budget Full system of Sky dragon 50 ADS @ $70m then one Senator Olodo from an opposition blows it out of proportion and a political intifada starts.

Thank you. Been waiting for real coherent answers. Can you educate me on the end game here? why would ISWAP return the girls without getting anything in return? does that even make any sense? Also why did they leave out one girl, or doesn't the agreement to return the girls cover that one?

No such thing as money gotten from the South.
And states aren't in charge of funding warfare, that's the job of the federal Govt, states can help with facilities and other logistics, access to state detention centers, vehicles etc, but Money that comes from the Fed belongs to all Nigerians, not South, not anywhere else.
People in the North also pay taxes, easterners do too, and yes there is also oil money, but that's not the only arena the Fed Govt gets money from.
Now before anyone bite off my head, let's keep it civil, correct me if I'm wrong grin
