mabelly:True that. There was a time that I supervised work for a Lebanese and we needed like 10 trips of sand. I brought a man that usually supply us sand and introduced him to oga, they discussed the price and he gave discounts but the oga said that I should bring another. I brought a lady who gave me business card when we met at the site, they discussed price and she got the contract. I discovered during payment that her price was way higher than what the first guy offered yet she got the contract, funny thing is, this Lebanese sacked two engineers because the price that they bought the cement that they used to work was N50 higher than what he himself bought it on his way to the site. He asked them to refund N50 per every bag used, they refused and he dismissed them. This tells you how much he loves money. Few days later, it became obvious to everyone that oga does some sneaky shits with the lady that supplied sand. Apparently, she presented price list and other things that no man has. Women don't complain when they get something because they women, it is only when being a woman disfavors them that we hear all these noise. 9 Likes 2 Shares |

When there are no much women in the field of engineering, architecture and building technology, how will they take their female counterpart serious? Most of those who manage to study those courses in school end up not practicing it. So what are you saying? That line of profession is male dominated unlike medicine and pharmacy where we can have almost equal number of male and female in a class. Well that is the same way I don't take a male nurse serious, I make jest of them like why on earth will you carry your penis to study nursing? The first male nurse I met will never want to meet me again because I yab am ehn! We just believe their are some professions for a certain gender. So it is all rounder, maybe when we have more female breaking grounds in engineering, architecture and building technology, females in that field will be taken serious. |

It does. I have never worked in a place where any woman is not taken serious. We men also don’t get taken serious but we don’t attribute it to gender. Ladyhippolyta88: |

Lol .......I can relate to this. As the Architect, I'm the team leader of the group of consultants on my site. But, in the beginning, contractors seemed more at ease with the engineers giving instructions (which still need to be corroborated by an AI). For a while I resorted to simply writing instructions and doing emails where required; citing the contractor's obligation to comply. It was frustrating. I thought I should try to be firmer and more "no nonsense", but then I thought that it would only play into the stereotype and antagonize them further. And I had to handle the situation; I couldn't tell my boss that I couldn't get the contractors to take me seriously; and I didn't want to hide behind the structural guy. So, instead of imposing myself and being an authoritative leader, I decided to be more collaborative. There's less resistance that way, if every man is allowed to contribute his opinion and be part of the process. But the final decision is still mine. 2 Likes |

shaybebaby: Well midwifery care is not just during delivery/labour. You typically see a midwife in the course of the pregnancy. Some even get to choose home birth with a midwife. There are many women who even refuse to see a male gynaecologist. Many have voiced such here on Nairaland in the past. 1 Like |

AreaFada2:I would blame that on the society and the closed mindedness it encourages. There is also the religious angle which encourages women to be Conservative, ofcourse women like that would loathe having a male rummage around their lady parts. Is it right? No. Is it understandable? Yes. Can it be mitigated? Somewhat. When it comes to issues around the pumpum, women can be given a choice(they do here) of male or female. And if it has to be someone of the opposite sex, they have a choice to have someone of the same sex present as a chaperone. This is to avoid stories that touch. And I feel that is a good approach, some people can be unethical even in such trusted positions. When I was pregnant, the gp I saw was inappropriate with me. He was nigerian too. I could have reported him for sexual harassment but chose not to. Instead I made sure I always requested a different doctor when I needed an appointment. |

shaybebaby: Yep but in emergency there's often hardly any choice. It might just be male or female Health Care Professionals (HCPs) available. As for a chaperone, it's very necessary in the interest of both the patient & HCP. The vast majority of HCPs are decent, committed and caring. I have seen cases where women have requested for a HCP not just based on gender but on race too! In one case it was even granted BUT caused an outrage later when other staff found out. If an HCP was "intentionally" inappropriate, the least is to get him to apologise. If you did not rebuke him or get him to apologise yet you did not report, then other women might suffer same. |

AreaFada2: Sadly and wrongly perhaps, I did not want another person losing their livelihood. I wasn't as vocal as I am now. I have had a male doctor (Asian) refuse to treat me. Again I let it slide. So yes I agree it is present across lines of race and gender. Why won't it be? We live in a prejudiced world. 1 Like |

shaybebaby: If you are smart enough, you would know I was just referring to him as a male that is why will a male become a nurse? We grew up to believe nursing is a female profession. What's my business with his dick? Abi female don dey get dick? But then, anybody can choose to become whatever he/she wants. |

I've seen lady architects defend their works, and they are astoundingly graceful doing it... I'm not refuting that sexism exists in the architecture profession, but once u are good at what u do, u will earn maximum respect of everybody... Zaha Hadid and Julia Morgan were very good examples of great architects of architects who are also ladies... Abimloaded abeg come shook mouth for the matter... |
