Poland Coach Nawalka: We Were Better Than Nigeria, Just Unlucky
March 24, 2018 9:26 am

Poland head coach Adam Nawalka says his team didn’t get the reward their performance deserved following Friday’s 1-0 defeat by Nigeria in the friendly fixture at Municipal Stadium, Wroclaw, Completesportsnigeria. com reports.

The Poles created a number of goal scoring opportunities in the game but were let down by their poor marksmanship and some great goalkeeping by Francis Uzoho.
The defeat stretched Nawalka’s team’s winless streak to three games. They also failed to score a goal in the three games.

“We will analyze the performance of all players in a timely manner. In general, we wanted to try and check out all the players,” Nawalka stated during his post-match press conference.

“Every failure always hurts, but I think we played better than them (Nigeria). We didn’t deserve to lose the game and also created better chances to win the game.

“We have now failed to score in our last three games. It certainly hurts, but we won’t allow that to discourage us as we know what to improve on.

“More so because we tested a new system which we intend to use in subsequent games.”

I have always said it, Musa and Simon are no cerebral players. Nice runs from Musa yesterday but he can never give that final pass wisely. Just see how he wasted that counter initiated by Onazi because he ran without his brains hence running past the ball and running himself into an offside position. Dude is whack and annoying

Lewandowski: Why We Lost To Nigeria; Moses Penalty Was Wrong Call
March 24, 2018 9:06 am

Poland captain Robert Lewandowski has blamed the side’s lack of bravery as the main reason for their defeat against Nigeria in Friday’s friendly game at the Municipal Stadium, Wroclaw,

Completesportsnigeria. com reports.
The Poles went down to a 1-0 defeat in the game with Chelsea wing back Victor Moses winning a penalty and then dusting himself up to convert from the spot in the 61st minute to hand the Super Eagles a win.

The home side created a number of goal scoring opportunities in the game but were let down by their poor marksmanship and fine goalkeeping by Francis Uzoho who grew into the game after a shaky start.

“Maybe we were too scared to attack when we had the ball. Defensively, we looked really good, except for one situation when the player (Victor Moses) passed three players and entered the penalty area,” the Bayern Munich forward was quoted after the game by /sportdziennik.pl.

“We will be training hard to to improve on our performance at the World Cup. I think that Rafał Kurzawa and Przemysław Frankowski played a very good game and showed that they have the quality to play for us.

Lewandowski also stated that the centre referee, Micheal Oliver made a mistake by awarding the penalty that led to the winning goal.

“Nigeria probably did not create too many goal scoring opportunities, in addition, the penalty awarded to them was not a penalty although the referee told me that he whistled because he saw the reaction of “Pebble” Marcin Kaminski.

“We have definetely been able to learnt a lot of lessons from the game and draw many conclusions from it. It’s just a friendly match, so it’s hard to compare, there will definitely be other matches at the World Cup.”

Obafemi Martins as well, how about Ideye, Ike Uche, Kalu Uche etc

Not everyone will be called to camp. I believe we have our best legs in camp at the moment.

Sometimes the manager and technical crew have to trust their instinct and invite those they think would execute their plans effectively. The boys did well seeing off Zambia, Algeria and Cameroon...Argentina tested them but we are insatiable, lots of us saud Argentina played without Messi. Same Messi...less Argentina beat Italy 2-0 last night.

Some called it luck, they beat Lewandoski’s Poland at home in front of a capacity crowd...whatever is the reason for the good fortune, may it continue to fall heavily on them...Next is Serbia...England game in my opinion is very important. I pray the Eagles don’t lose that game.

We have our best legs in camp and as much as I think Aluko is good, I think there are enough talents in the Eagles camp...hopefully we’d get to see Junior Ajayi against Serbia or England.

Obafemi and Ideye are still playing in top leagues? ain't they?

They should be considered.

Make we see wetin Junior go bring for the team.

Some people argue that Poland created plenty and better chances, but at the same time, same people say Uzoho wasn't tested enough. So my question is, if Uzoho didn't deal with with the chances created by the Poles where then did the chances go? Abi him dealing with the super created chances of the Poles no be passing a test?

I give credit to our defense and goalkeeper. The defense are proving to be too stingy to opposing strikers, hence nothing goes pass them and the few that meandered were dealt with by Uzo. Kudos to our boys

Completesportsnigeria.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU rates the performances of the Super Eagles players in Friday’s 1-0 friendly win against Poland at the Municipal Stadium, Wroclaw…

FRANCIS UZOHO 7/10
The young goalkeeper recovered from a poor start to make a couple of vital saves in the game. He grew in confidence as the game wore on and certainly justified his selection ahead of the more experienced Ikechukwu Ezenwa.

SHEHU ABDULLAHI 4/10
The right-back gave away fouls in dangerous positions twice and failed to impress in the game. He did not play up to his usual high standards.

WILLIAM TROOST- EKONG 6/10
The centre-back who captained the team in the absence of Mikel Obi was Nigeria’s best defender in the game. He made several vital clearances and did well to stop Poland hitman and captain Robert Lewandowski from getting a goal in the game.

LEON BALOGUN 4/10
Not one of his best games for the three-time African champions. Balogun was caught out of position a few times and looked a bit rusty.

BRYAN IDOWU 5/10
He was picked ahead of the more experienced Elderson Echiejile but failed to justify his inclusion in the starting line-up. The Amkar Perm of Russia left-back did not defend well and failed to support the attack.

WILFRED NDIDI 5/10
The Leicester City midfielder put up an average showing in the game. He was however Nigeria’s busiest midfielder in the encounter.

JOEL OBI 5/10
He was eager to make an impression on the technical crew and was all over the pitch in the game. Lucky to escape without injury despite a few rough tackles from the Poles. He did not do his World Cup chances any harm.

KELECHI IHEANACHO 4/10
A below-par showing from the Leicester City man who failed to thrive in an advanced midfield position in the absence of captain Mikel Obi.

ALEX IWOBI 5/10
Started the game brightly but fizzled out and was duly substituted early in the second half by Ahmed Musa.

VICTOR MOSES 7/10
Was lively after the break following an average showing in the first half. He won and converted the penalty for the only goal of the game.

ODION IGHALO 4/10
The China- based striker was not at his best, he failed to give the Polish defence any problems and posed no threat. He was duly subbed off for Moses Simon late in the game.

SUBSTITUTES

AHMED MUSA 4/10
Took the place of Alex Iwobi but did little or nothing to make any positive impact in the game.

OGENYI ONAZI 4/10
He was supposed to help stabilise the midfield after coming on for Joel Obi, but he did not post his usual energetic display.

KENNETH OMERUO 3/10
Did little to help his cause following an error-strewn performance after his introduction in the second half.

TYRONNE EBUEHI 5/10
Proved a capable replacement for Shehu Abdullahi as he prevented the hosts from finding the equalising goal.

JOHN OGU 4/10
Did enough to help the Super Eagles protect their lead after replacing Kelechi Iheanacho.

I remember a certain moniker was clamouring for Ndidi to score more goals and give more tackles but some few wise ones made him undersrand that some matches are won by tackles, yesterday prove so.

I was not surprise the midfield lacked understanding going forward, because Joel look like a visitor in that midfield, the synergy was not there, thumbs up to him, he was experience enough to sit back to help Ndidi in making the those tackle that makes good opposition players scared

Ighalo and Nacho was isolated, I still believe iwobi would have fare better just behind the striker, he played off Nacho against Argentina, that role should be like a free role but Nacho decided to stay upfront, sometimes even ahead of ighalo.

Our team lack a second option in the forward position, Gabriel is a very good striker i watched him in CHAN but his more like a poor man Ighalo, Ajayi plays from the wing and we have alot of better players there, I am not the type that like to call for inclusion of different player but I think we need Sadiq Umar, his a hand full and something really different from the strikers we have.

His not going to be a starter but this kinda physical game with no good supply from the midfield, we can rely on those long direct balls to him.

Admittedly I've never really watched Joel play until yesterday and judging by the hype here prior to the game, I had high expectations from him but I was left unimpressed. Didn't really see any world class moment. Just average.

Our interplay was poor yesterday but it was expected. We played away against a team 6th in world football. We had an impotent attack too. Overall, I think we were lacking confidence and needed someone to inspire that. That's where mikel comes in. We'll take the win anyways. Gearing up for Serbia. I hope for a Barca esque display in Hive.

In congo4ka's voice.
my fellow eagulians grin

Bro, we need to learn how to play without Mikel.

In fact, I'm in support of him not starting in our next match.

Doing so successfully will further cement the fact that we are a complete team not totally dependent on any individual.

I also was tinkering with an idea; our ex-internationals that were known to be very creative and good passers (Okocha, Kanu, Oliseh et Al) can organize a workshop for our midfielders and train with them. At the very least, to give them pointers and inspire confidence .

No team wins a trophy in a tournament playing beautiful football throughout the tourney. Great teams are known for their ability to squeeze out results even in the most difficult of times. It doesn't matter if u won dirty, just like France did against us in Brazil. We were resolute and patient for our chance(s) yesterday and when it did come, we took it. The making of trophy winning teams.

He was playing too deep. Instead of creating, he was making too many rash tackles. At a point, I feared he would get a red. He eventually got a yellow.

I think Kelechi drifting to the 18-yard box affected Joel's connection with the attack. They were supposed to work together.

A question: For those who watch Torino's games, how much creativity does Joel pack in his game?

It was absent yesterday. I expected him to hold the ball, spray passes and generally dictate the tempo.

Onazi did drive forward and pushed the attack when he joined the foray at the latter stage of the match.
Not a cerebral type of player, but he is good at driving forward with the ball and great at one on one take ons. Better on the ball than both Onazi and Ndidi. Long passing isn't that great.

But he plays week in week out mostly as a RB in the championship and has been voted the best RB in the championship.

A player needs opportunity so we can actually see what he can do. Training gives you some insight but he needs a full 45 minutes in a game before any initial deductions can be made.

The question has to be answered in relation to the SE does he bring something more than Shehu and or Ebuehi. So he should be tried at RB as well.

It's possible that Aina can play both RB & LB then that's a very good plus ➕ for the team.

I do think that Aina may combine better with V.Moses from thier Chelsea experience.

You have a very valid point there. Hmmmm!

Icon4s:

That guy still lacks some fundamentals in goalkeeping. Leave confidence aside.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Icon4s, you have a personal vendetta against this poor boy!

This is a 19 year old rookie but very exceptional keeper for his age and drafted into the mix to do what keepers far above his age are struggling to do.

Yet you won't let him rest,... angry

Enyeama came in at age 20 at 2002 world cup to stop a Paul scholes shot, from that day on he was confirmed Nigeria's No1 Goalkeeper for 13 years.

This boy Uzoho has kept clean sheets against Argentina and Poland in front of their home fans and even saved a one-on-one with Lewandoski.

This is a boy that grew into the game after a shaky nervous start, he punched away most shot horizontally( this is what professionals do) , and caught firmly the shot that he could.

This is a boy that covered his angle very well even if a shot was going wide. Yet this is the same boy that you will castigate at will.

If Courtiose had kept for us last night and Lewandoski shot went pass through his leg,..I bet you wouldn't have blame him.... If Akpeyi had kept for us last night and one of the straight shots at him scored( because Akpeyi usually swing sideways away from his position before diving back to his spot and by then, a direct straight shot at him would have already gone into his net), you obviously wouldn't blame him.

But you can blame Uzoho who is doing well so far, you blame him for his inexperience, you blame him for school boy errors, you blame him for everything.

And I wonder how this exceptional good keeper will have this so-called experience that you gloat about without playing such a high temple match?.

I also wonder how he can grow if he doesn't get games?.. undecided

You can blame Uzoho because after all he is truly a rookie. You blame Uzoho after all he the fall guy.

But remember this, this same rookie and inexperience boy has played 135 minutes against Argentina and Poland without conceedeing a goal. Infact he achieved this when he had to come in to clean the mess of one of the so called experience keeper and he cleaned it well.

Also remember that this same rookie came out tops on a one-on-one against his senior in Lewandoski while a world best keeper T. Courtoius could not do the same when he came against his mate, he was just opening his leg anyhow like ashawo kobo kobo for Messi.

I always give respect to who earns it and Uzoho has earned my respect from yesterdays match. Just like you, I observed that Uzoho was jittery in the first half so much that I had my heart in my mouth BUT he came out in the second half and cleared all my doubts....as in at a point crosses from corners and freekicks were floating in from different angles and for once, there was no rush of blood to his head. He kept his cool and kept his goal line very well.

Mr Man, we have a jewel in our hands. And Yes! He has just been tested and he came out Tops

. How many freekicks did he not take apart from the one Ekong kicked out or the stadium? What about corner kicks? FYI it was in a similar position where Iheanacho scored against Argentina, so he should've been allowt to take that.

One of the tool for winning games, is having options and not been predictable, this is a friendly match, you try things out, what if iheanacho was not starting or injured? do you think Rohr assign set piece duty to him because he likes his face, he must be doing something right in training.

v.moses is more certain to be a starter but Nacho is not, is more wise for the team to look for one of the starters for the set piece duty.

We will be playing without Mikel and you still won't mind if Ndidi is being rested, and Moses should not start?

We will lose that game big time, trust me

Man you were right.
Poland showed us they were not just dashed that 6th position on FIFA ranking. They earned it.

They were good grin

I'm just happy u guys are now seeing what I saw and have been lamenting on. Shehu was so poor yesterday. He lacks pace, I was infuriated when he brought down a defender to concede a free kick. Dat defender was a meter behind Shehu when they set out for the tussle, but how the guy overtook Shehu forcing Shehu to foul him was embarrassing.

shehu will struggle with a team that play from the wings, his very slow, very good player but he look like a time bomb in the RB position, that foul could have been a penalty in some case, Ebuehi play that position so effortlessly, it comes natural to him.

That said, Ebuehi should be our preferred RB, I'm still scared if Holland will tap on him, remember his yet to make his competitive debut, and Rohr for reasons I don't understand don't really fancy him, he played shehu in the Algeria dead rubber match even when shehu was suppose to be banned from the match for 2 yellow cards.
