@Oga Tony
@AwesomeJ

Please permit me to bother you a little. Can you help me clarify please, I am getting confused here.

I got 337days tenure treasury bills at 18% last year with N1,800,000. I got the interest upfront.

The transaction date was 12th July, 2017 and like I earlier said, it was a 337-day tenure and was terminated on the 19th of March, 2018.

I liquidated today and was paid N1,730,000.

How correct are they?

Please how much was debited from your account last year july? Was it 1.8 million?
In other words, is 1.8 m the face value or the discounted rate?

Good afternoon to all the gurus and members in the house. Below are the rates and tenors available at Stanbic bank secondary market. My TB that matured yesterday was reinvested same day at 13.5% for 196 days. Just received the alert. Personally I will not advise someone to go for the primary market unless you want to lock in your funds for 364 days, or more longer tenor. Apart from the risk of lower rate, the bank may also not be successful with their bidding rates.

The applicable rate are (Stannic ibtc)
42days at 13.65%
154days at 13.7%
196days at 13.5%

I've noticed investors avoid 91days tenor. Please can anyone explain why?

NO! NO!! NO!!! SIR.
It's not possible to extend it but you are at liberty to terminate whatever you bought at the Primary market before maturity.

The only way you MAY increase the tenure is to buy more at the prevailing rate either at the Primary or Secondary markets. Note also that your buy rates for 182 days and 364days at the Primary market could not have been the same.

In addition to what Tony(I think) said about people trying to lock in funds for a year because they envisage a further reduction in rates going forward, most people invest money they do not urgently need in Tbills. At least, not in 91 days.

It could also be for psychological reasons, I have 100k for instance and you're telling me to come collect 3200 on it after 91 days. I am conveniently forgetting that's what I'll still earn after 91 days on the longer tenors assuming rates are the same.

Can one terminate a portion of their TBill investment before maturity or does it have to be the whole thing?

Should be the whole.

But if the funds are substantial, say above 100m, your bankers may be able to work something out.

Still reach out to them for confirmation though.

Happy Sunday to everyone.

The US Fed's FOMC raised rates to the 1.50-1.75% band last Wednesday. There's yet hope for another increase before the year runs out.

How does this affect us?

Positively.

For one, the returns on fixed income assets there should rise further. Treasury bonds yields could stay above 4%, and bank CDs may start seeing close to 3% APR.

Then those who rushed our Eurobonds at 7%, may not fancy it as much anymore, forcing the government to raise coupons to perhaps 8/9%.

Then Domestic borrowings can at least be sustained at this current levels.

Only over optimism would make anyone expect a return to the 18% levels anytime soon.

Sustaining this current levels should be seen by us as good enough. Means a healthy debt portfolio, and a healthy financial market too.

At 13.5% discount, T-bills yields are still about 15.60% p.a

Even at 13% discount, yield is 14.94%

Meaning that with about 80m in your T-bills portfolio, you can retire sir.

But I think you should rather make it a hundred-round figure.

Quite great to read from you.
