An Igbo group, Igbo Youths Initiative have chastised the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi for telling the Igbo people to apologize to President Muhammadu Buhari for not voting for him in the 2015 presidential election.

Commenting on the statement made by the Minister while delivering a lecture at the convocation ceremony of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State, the president of the organization, Prince Alexander Ezeobi said that in 2015 presidential election ,Igbo voted for equity and justice. According to him, in the history of Nigeria, the north has dominated governance, adding that allowing the north to continue to dominate power is gross injustice to the other component parts of the country.

He said that Amaechi has no moral right to lecture Igbos on how to vote for in elections because he is one of those that has put the country in the mess it is for selfish reasons. Prince Ezeobi said that even if Igbo’s had given bloc vote to Buhari in 2015, he would not have done anything different from what he is doing now because of his hatred of the Igbos.

According to him, Igbos have no apology whatsoever, for the decision they took in 2015 and if the same situation repeats itself ,they would still vote the same way. He said that those campaigning for Igbos to vote for Buhari in 2019 so that he would hand over to an Igbo man in 2023 are political jobbers who only care for their own interests insisting that instead of Igbos apologizing to Buhari, it is Amaechi who should go and apologize to his people for betraying them.

He said that the role Amaechi played in 2015,would not only hunt him, but it would hunt his generations yet unborn, if he fails to apologize to his people. His words,

“Rotimi Amaechi said that Igbos should confess and apologize for voting against Buhari in 2015. I want to say that if it was mistake that we made in 2015, we will be the happy to make the mistake over and over again. Another thing is that Amaechi has no moral right to educate Igbos on who to vote for in an election. Even whoever choose him for the lecture did a dis-service to the Igbo nation because as distinguish Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe rightly said, Rotimi Amaechi is the worst choice for the lecture.

If we talk of the person that should confess and apologize, it is the Minister because he betrayed his people. As far as Ikwere and Rivers state is concerned, Rotimi Amaechi is a traitor, a political vagabond. So, he should go and confess and apologize to his people. In fact, he need to shave his head, put on a sackcloth and roll on the ground for his people so that they would forgive him because what he did would continue to hunt his family from one generation to another.

I also want to say that if the 2015 situation repeats itself again, Igbos would still do the same thing. We have no iota of regret for not voting Buhari and we are very happy that we did not contribute to the state that Nigeria is in currently with our votes”
