A good example of a synergy between the two (ac/dc) is battery and inverter setup.....the battery is 12v (dc) and the inverter turns it into 220v (ac).

You remind me of experimental days when we cut open a sealed agm lead acid battery and apply distilled water or electrolyte for revival sake ! I believe the op uses a sealed battery and not flooded , I also read where the op said somtin about "swollen/bulged" battery . Now, the battey is back inside the UPS working very very well. Batteries don't die easily ooo. Rain water can also serve as distilled water. If you can't get ac water, use rain uncontaminated water.

From my experience, it could work. Let him first of all check if their is a spark when he tries to connect the positive terminal and the negative terminal. If he gets a spark, he might be lucky. However, if the heat has melted the container and the container couldn't hold the distilled water, that is where he will have a problem.
I actually bought my battery (slim battery) from a friend that works with one of the GSM telecommunication company and you know most of the telecom companies buys original batteries. I really didn't want to abandon my batteries for these china made batteries.
There is no harm in him trying it out. He really has nothing to lose.

Even in the afternoon when there is sun their is hardly any increase in the battery level and when their is electricity the battery level increase at a very hight rate and also decrease at a very high rate when there is no electricity.. The battery barely last till 2:am and all that are on is just one 49" led TV, one decoder, 2 fans and about 4 led bulb.. And the setup is barely 3 months.
