Students sleeping outside their hostels (the hostel is empty btw) and some have professional exams in 38 days

They should manage as this will be part of their success stories but my regrets are that when they start charging the gruesome bills in their private clinics they forget the people who made them pass through these ordeals making the poor masses die of inefficient medical care and also due to their dirty lifestyle while in campus their hospitals are habitat to very many obscure pathogens of unimaginable chemistry.

Today medical and dental students of the University of Benin came out to protest their lack of accommodation. The University of Benin forcefully drove them out of Hall5 and refused them entering "NDDC medical hostel" their supposed hostel. It should be noted that when the University of Benin Medical school was fighting for accreditation of 150 quota of admission last year, they told MDCN(medical and Dental council of Nigeria) that NDDC medical hostel is fully for medical students.
The list that came out earlier this month through those that have "connection" had over 250 students with medical and dental students not being up to 30 in the list.
As it stands now medical and dental students of the University of Benin are still outside NDDC hostel waiting to enter the hostel with their loads and they said they are ready to sleep outside for the next two days.

I sympathize with you guys. During my undergraduate days, we were well taken care of and given what others call preferential treatment. However, i guess things have changed! My house in federal road can accommodate like 4-6 people and I am not in town, but a friend nearby has my spare key. If it gets so bad, that number of responsible students can just send me a message. Same thing happened in my school . The authorities woke up one morning and decided to allocate our 200/300 lvl hostels(for males) to students from other departments and the other(for both males and females) to pharmacy students. They didn't even consider their upcoming part1mb exams, but after days of pleading and homelessness, they had to squeeze them in with pharmacy students.

When a university is termed federal, what does that mean actually especially in Nigeria?
I know federal government should be funding it but most of them make students pay excruciating fees even with the federal government subsidies.
I noticed the schools are packed with 70% of the indigenes where it is located student and staff wise.

These pictures and events brought back some nostalgic memories.

During my days at the University of Benin, I was a full-time squatter. I never thought of applying neither did I applied for a space, but I knew I was going to stay with someone following the allocation of the hostel spaces.

I was particularly interested in reading my books, although, sometimes, I cried when I'm prevented from entering the hostel (Lol, all of these were due to the lack of finances).

My goal was to study, but due to my kind of nature, and by the Grace of God, I had friends who were ready to accommodate me.

Today, looking back at all the stresses and discomforts, I can only say I'm grateful to God as I graduated with a summa cum laude degree (1.1).

Consequently, I think the students should set their priorities and move to the next available hostel spaces, instead of staging a time wasting protest.

bros calm down, uniben is just playing politics. They also used it for Nursing accreditation and told their council it is for their students too. They are using it for accreditation of different departments in Complex to increase their admission quota and make more money. The school is casted and has no ones interest at heart.

Ideally if it where to be the kind of Unilag set Up where college of medical science and campus is located entirely different in the teaching hospital, this won't be happening. They would have built enough hostels for all departments that would be in the college and teaching hospital

Of course, boys are dirtier na. I think the old women who clean are doing a nice job. Here, if anyone poos and messes up the toilet, that floor's light will be disconnected for as long as until one of them volunteers to clean it up. Such punishment kind of put the dirty ones in check.
