wirinet: I know you can do better than this unfortunate plank of argument. Nigerian cannot plug their eyes because VENEZUELA, SAUDI ARABIA and RUSSIA had their eyes plugged from the socket off their heads. If Nigeria had adequate economic plans like UAE or Qatar did, the impact of crude oil glut during the period of this discourse would not have been so devastating. |

AlPeter: Payment of state salaries is not the job of the federal government. the states collect allocations which they are meant to use in running their states. Oya, how far now with the so-called bail out funds? Is Rochas Okorocha not still owing despite the bail out? The problem is incompetence! When Ayo Fayose was asked by news reporters why he hadn't finished paying the remaining arrears of workers' salaries, he clearly explained what the problem was; The previous governor Kayode Fayemi has borrowed and borrowed so much money that about N1billion (can't remember the exact figure now) was being deducted from the state's monthly allocation from source in order to service the loan. When governors are too incompetent to realise they shouldn't borrow more than the state can afford, they end up creating more problems than they are trying to solve by that initial borrowing. As a result of Fayemi's financial recklessness, Fayose has inherited a problem he is struggling to deal with. and the same scenario plays out in several states. Look at what states like Anambra has done, boosting agriculture and at the same time managing resources to the point where they are not owing, rather the governor increased salaries for civil servants. In the height of the recession, Anambra increased salaries, yet Buhari is still whinning and complaining everyday. Buhari's problem is incompetence! another problem of his is bigotry and nepotism! If Buhari had sense, all he needed to do was to place the right people in the right offices and empower them to do the right thing, but nepotism and corruption will not allow him do that! 1 Like |

DerideGull: Oga, read those your articles again and tell me which one of these economies had inflation that's even up to half of what has happened to Nigeria. Which one of them had their currency fall by almost 100%? I already mentioned venezuela as an exception several times and i clearly said it was due to inept socialist government policies that were put in place. Go and study before coming out to defend incompetence! |

hotdealz: Oblang: The both of you should stop sounding dumb! "Lake rice" is touted to be a so-called agricultural joint initiative by the Lagos and Kebbi state governments. The government of the 2 states owe it as an obligation to showcase where the rice was planted, milled, bagged and distributed so as to erase doubts especially as there were doubts concerning it's veracity. Similar thing happened when the government of Anambra state started the "Anambra Rice" production and people called it paperwork and media propaganda. The state Government produced a documentary of where the rice was planted in Coscharis Farms, planted and milled in Josan Rice Mills Enugwuabor and Stine Mills Industries Amichi, Nnewi all in Anambra State. That is how you know a Governor that has integrity. Not like Ambode and his Ogun State counterpart scamming gullible people with inexistent LAKE rice and plywood rice mill

ivandragon: You are partially right, i'm not fan of both leaders but you cant compare them with purchasing power coz dey operate in different economy cycle. during Jonathan administration Nigeria was in prosperity, and later part of his administration, Nigeria was in recession. Buhari administration started with recession, to depression at moment Nigeria is in recovery. No government can increase in purchasing power during depression (general decline in economic activity). Wait till buhari administration enter prosperity (I pray it will happen) |

So many fools here proving to be an economist! Lack of knowledge will not kill you before it's too late. Buharinism is a disease, while it's so clear that Nigerians made a huge mistake in 2015 and some are admitting that fact, some out of insensitivity admitted it in their closet but come openly to spew trash. They're the type that find it difficult to say 'I AM SORRY' even when wrong! 1 Like |

Edelweiss44: Let me first state that I am not completely exonerating Buhari, but is annoying when some people seem to have a condition shown as short term memory and tend to forget events that led to the present conditions. Nigeria's inflation rate had always been double digits even under president Jonathan, so the high inflation was not created by Buhari. You also read the articles and tell me which counties had as much corruption as Nigeria, Which ones pay politicians jumbo salaries and allowances, which ones has close to a population of 200 million, which ones support and celebrate corruption and corrupt public officials as we do. I know they say Black's are allergic to books, but please try and read Professor Charles Soludo article written in January 2015 just before the elections, you will get an idea of where Nigeria was heading whether Buhari or Jonathan won. Here are some quotes from the article;
Also take time to read the warning our dear minister of finance and ministers for the economy gave at about the same period;

ogunjyde2004: the depth/extent of a nation's recession/hardship is dependent on the actions & policies of the government. for well about a year, crude oil has sold well above $60 pb. https://www.marketwatch.com/investing/future/crude%20oil%20-%20electronic mind you, the aforementioned price is what Nigeria's budget from 2007-2014 was based on, give or take a few dollars ($55-$74) & I doubt Nigerians were as impoverished then as they are now. https://knoema.com/msppozc/nigeria-official-budget-benchmark-oil-price-2005-2016 then we must not be carried away by the jingo about how high oil prices were between 2010-2013 because that was the period Nigeria lost its biggest market & well over 60% of of it's sells. https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=5770 http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/obama-we-don-8217-t-need-energy-from-africa/151925/ from 1.3m bpd (out of 2.2m bpd produced) imported from Nigeria in 2011, it reduced this to 600,000 bpd by 2012 & almost zero bpd by 2014. so the previous administration wasn't exactly swimming in petrodollars, it just didn't make it a habit of crying to Nigerians every second. & mind you, that administration still had to pay subsidy in fuel, subsidise dollars while still creating a thriving environment for local industries, human devt & infrastructure. now, pmb has proposed higher budgets over the last 3 budget cycles. the question is, why would the government aim to spend so much more if it now far less? it means it can get money from somewhere to make up the shortfall. in that case, this administration has spent at least, equivalent to what the last administration spent, but is the economy better for it? are ordinary Nigerians feeling any positive impacts? are goods & services more affordable? |

Edelweiss44: Did you read my piece with unbiased mind? I did not defend the incompetence that walk the streets of Nigeria but tend to lambast those who tend to fan excuse for the idiocy in Nigeria. Whether it is socialist or capitalist, every action has a consequence. Nigeria till today does not have economic plan to cushion slight downturn variation in crude oil price. |

Those kind of facilities are best in the hands of the private as some everywhere else in the world. Reason why you have the Dangote and Petrolex refineries.
