Which brings to the fore that irrespective of where you ply your trade, if you play consistently, then you're good enough for the team. cos I can't but agreeo this fact.

See this team needs good players that deliver. Truly we all may have favourites here and there. But if we need to get goals at the mundial, we need a striker.

Okay let's imagine a scenario where the players we look down on come and perform, won't we be the same peeps that would start praising them, and digging up their history as though it was just yesterday? That's why I don't mind Obagoal coming back. Cos even Ighalo isn't crafty in front of goal as he is....

Anyone on here who without Mikel, or with Mikel playing, Put their money in Ighalo to lead our attack come Russia, that's an anti -GWG.

Don't even bring up Musa. He is a flashbang.

Your points are noted. But whatever the case may be..... I wished we tried out some strikers as much as our attention is on the Goalkeeping issue.

Agreed

RULES OF FOOTBALL WHEN WE WERE KIDS

1. The fat kid was always the goalkeeper...

2. The owner of the ball decided who played...

3. Penalty (otherwise called PENARITY!) was awarded
only if an injured player could curse or fight a lot...

4. The match only ended when everyone was tired...

5. No matter how many goals you scored, the winner
would be determined by the last team to score...

6. No referee and linesmen. You could run with the ball
even behind the goalpost...

7. If you didn't participate in repairing a damaged ball you were given a match ban...

8. If you're picked last, you're a loser...

9. The guy who's never picked was to fetch the ball from the tree or bush when it got stuck, under the car or tunnel to play in the next game...

10. When the owner of the ball got annoyed, game
over...

11. You were allowed to change a goalkeeper in case of a penalty...

12. The most skillful player got automatic selection...the most bully player got automatic selection too.......

13. No discrimination, both the children of rich and the poor played together!

14. Three corners make one Penarity!

15. All players help in household work of the ball owner.

16. If the ball burst everyone contribute to pay the owner.

17. You can't dribble the owner too much. This may lead him to stop the game by taking away his ball.

18. You can go round the goalpost still return into the field and score.

19. When you hit your toes against a stone and notice blood, you quickly cover the area of injury with sands as a form of first aid. Play continue.

20. We called ourselves by nicknames of great players especially from Brazil and England.

21. Game over when it's dark and we can barely see the ball. We all dispersed in groups to our face me I face you homes teasing one another until d last player gets home to face another round of punishment from our disciplinarian parents .

grin

This generation is missing a lot of free fun. They pay dearly (in monetary terms) for today's fun.

Please add your rules that I have forgotten to mention here ojare

Let's laugh Small before the Heat get outta Control!

O boy you don kee me with laughter finish here.

Let me add:

Because there were no cross bars, any ball that goes higher than the stones used as posts was regarded as "High goal"!

Referees were regarded as "lefree"

A bicycle kick was regarded as "Shangalo"

Popular names we called ourselves: Maradona, Zico, Etim, Zagalo.

read very well sir...
let's explore the other options...and go with the best only...
why keep sticking to Ighalo when you've not tried the rest to ascertain their qualities...

The basis for call up is not sentiment.

But consistent top quality performances in your club the better the league and better the club the more valid your claim for invitation.

In all honesty the reason we still have KC and Musa in the team is we simply have very few quality strikers. Otherwise both of them by club form would simply be dropped.

this no be English lecture oh.. a "punny" expression must precede "no pun intended". it is used to draw attention to the pun used, either for humor sake or to prevent confusion. A common example used in my secondary school days: "seven days without water makes one weak".
Can you see the humor in that? What's the humor? Seven days makes one week. Where is the confusion? The statement actually means going without water for seven days will make you WEAK.

So when Mujtahida tells somehow , he is somehow, that's a pun considering that somehow is also his moniker.. it's actually funny, and saying no pun intended is to draw attention to the joke/pun.

In actual sense it is better used in spoken english. in written english, it would be better to just rephrase the statement, unless the intention of course is to draw the reader's attention to the pun for humor sake.

The bottom line, in the absence of pun, you cannot use the expression, "no pun intended".

I'm just reading what you've put down here.

It's making me laff bruv 9ice one.

Almost all the teams that I've watched- Germany, Spain, South Korea, Portugal, Egypt whip in crosses. Only Nigeria doesn't do that. We are really crippled in the wings. Dribbling and passing towards goal is a waste of energy when instead of running you can send the ball on an errand through well delivered crosses.

Iwobi's fourth goal against Argentina was from a cross whipped in by Musa.

Why is he Obagoal expired Too old, not good enough. Don't just make emotive noise based on prejudice. But give your reasons.

I am sure you must watch numerous football analysts on TV. And the first question that comes up is your current form not your past form.

Defoe was excellent for Sunderland and a definite for the world cup last season but injury has put him out of reckoning. England will not take an off form striker to the World cup infact most serious countries will not.

I do agree that Cyril Dresser should be tested before selected and has far more justification for a call up than Junior Ajayi. Is Dresser prolific is he better than Obagoal younger definitely but better

The Eredivisie is ranked in world football lower than the Chinese league. In addition the Eredivisie is the easiest league to score in among the top twenty football leagues in Europe.

England will not take an off form striker to the World Cup ? And welbeck is being called up for last friendly ?

After harry Kane and Jamie vardy, who is the highest scoring English striker ? Callum Wilson and glen murray, but they didn't call any of them, abeg if you want make example no use england, welbeck that has scored only 3 goals this season

It's obvious that you don't understand what a pun means. A pun is playing on words. Not sarcasm or teasing. If that's your definition of a pun or when to say 'no pun intended' you've got wrong bra. Check your dictionary for the meaning of a pun. Or show me dictionary meaning of a pun that corresponds with the way you used it. No need for argument. Just show me dictionary meaning.

Okay sir, read my messages to you and tell me if i wasn't trying to confuse you, pun is trying to confuse the reader, if i didn't confuse you, why then were you trying to understand what i have been writing to you?

I mixed up my statements with sarcasm, teasing and confusion. but since you still don't see the pun in the pun, no eish boss cause not all English is English.

if na so, let us also move on from comparing this team with any of the old teams.

Let us act like the Nigerian Super Eagles team only came into existence last week with the Serbian game, since we cannot make reference to our old games again because of one loss undecided

I agree with him. It's a habit that the Super Eagles were know for, but these current set don't even have it as a habit. We need to find that habit back, cos Brazil are using their wingback to do it consistently in their last 10 games that I've watched.

The stress of breaking down a determined defence is much. No team at the world cup would do such work. They'll prefer to catch the defence unawares with crosses. That's what matters. Ighalo with a header... well no one crosses and he doesn't hala for one.

Seriously, if you are against Martins being invited, it should be for a valid reason other than "he's old and expired". Last season, this same Martins had a similar goal ratio to our current first choice striker IN THE SAME LEAGUE. Why is it that whenever Komekn mentions Martins, it's like WW3 to some people??

Looolll... I just knew you will take it like that because you know about how Emma Babayaro was dropped for Dosu Joseph. History classes again. wink

But still I believe He is saying the truth. Dosu Joseph was so average and not fantastic at all. Yet we win Olympic gold. We had a team that kinda managed to cover for his deficiencies.

Now do we currently have a team that can cover for our keeper's frailties since we are not taking a top class keeper to the mundial? I would say yes... Not entirely a super fantastic team but a very disciplined one that can beat anyone when at their best. In the Balogun-Ekong partnership, we have quite a solid defence and our fullbacks are also good to go. They are not world class but they have shown they can do an effective job of protecting the goalie.

What we need is a good bench to back up the first XI in those key positions and I believe we will present a good bench at the mundial.

In all, I am not downplaying the importance of a top class goalie.... Honestly, having such will be a huge asset for us, but again I have seen where teams win even with goalies not being top class. Atlanta 96 comes to mind. Even Barca with Victor Valdez when he was quite average (or maybe slightly above average as time went on) still conquered the world. wink

Joseph Dosu was in no way average. Immediately after the Olympics Dosu got a deal from Julius Berger to Reggiana in Italy not a mean feat. He also became ttte first choice keeper of the Super eagles before that unfortunate accident that ended his career. Babayaro was dropped to the bench after laying many eggs against lowly togo at the friendly match before the Olympics.
So said another way, Babayaro wey no fit pass foreign trial on top all his efforts. Abi naija corruption stop him from getting a club too?

Why haven't we even invited Gbolahan Salami who is banging in goals in Finland. What about Ogbeche. Our midfield is problematic yet we have the Rabius, Rabiu Alli and Mohammed. In fact Rabiu Alli has been a footballer before Iwobi was born. Very experienced. Not forgetting Gambo Mohammed, ex confeds cup player. This man in Ostende, Akpala is there too. Peter Utaka is still balling as well instead we are talking of Bresia or what's his name again.

actually like 2012 write up,people are still saying,if we play this,if we play that,we could be beaten silly,
yet we have been playing all sorts of teams,n no team has been able to be beat us that silly.
if it is only Spain or Germany will b able to beat us that silly, then we are very good, after all Brazil have been beaten silly and mercilessly but they r still formidable.
it does not matter if we are beaten once or twice, all that matters is that we keep improving until we becomes formidable

Perspective please: My simple point is this.... Dosu was not spectacular.... He was not fantastic... He was also not special at the Olympics. He was average at Atlanta 96 and cannot even be mentioned among our top 10 finest goalies of all time.
Yet with Dosu in goal, Nigeria still strived in that tournament and it is not as if our defence in '96 didn't even let in goals.

This current Super Eagles team has an Ezenwa and Uzoho vying for the no.1 slot in Russia. Let us throw our weights behind them and hope for the best. We have a very decent defence too and they protected these goalies against fine attacks (Cameroun with Bassogog/Moukandjo/Aboubakar, Algeria with Mahrez/Slimani/Brahimi and Poland with Lewandowski). So this is about each dept of the team making up for some of the deficiencies in other depts. Nigeria's Super Eagles can cope without a top class goalie. It is really sad Ikeme is down and Enyeama is not in form or good shape so we have to go with this risk.

After the two friendlies, these are my suggestions
1. Austin Ejide should make the final cut
2. Mikel is our most influential player he must be fit.
3. Samuel Kalu provides options from the right wing, he has to be considered.
