CSTR1002:...By the way, if I am to even respond to this your question regarding projects, a fact is that federal government projects are not state or LG projects which you start today and finish today, they typically span more than 1 tenure. If you doubt me, then permit me to reverse your question; kindly point out examples of FG capital projects 'started' and 'completed' within a single tenure by OBJ or Yaradua or GEJ?... I'm sure you wouldnt be able to give any substantial examples. And then, lets not forget that Nigeria was in a crippling recession and it was virtually impossible to do anything capital in 2015 and 2016. If you doubt this agaun or choose to be too political about it by pinning it on Buhari's head alone, kindly remind us how much was budgeted for the ministry of works for capital projects in 2015 by GEJ/NOI?... Last I remember, it was less than N20bn, and was even cut down later. 1 Like 1 Share |

holuphisayor:The citizens of both countries suffer because they are oil rich. The oil rents not only destroy local agriculture and manufacturing through an overvaluation of the currency (which makes imports too cheap for domestic producers to compete with), but the huge sums flowing to governments encourage both massive corruption and a "Father Christmas" approach to public spending, giving rise to bloated parastatals, and subsidy schemes that discourage private-sector investment while encouraging over-consumption (at least until the oil-bonanza money starts running out). This is the Resource Curse from which Nigeria, Venezuela, Angola and other oil-exporters suffer. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Mynd44: Thank you, Honestly I'm sick and tired of teaching all this PDP and GEJ gangs simple principle of better economic transformation. All they want is importation based economic without single production locally, 16 miserable years we have to feed over 150million people with imported rice and they are happy with that, they change in here but some people has blocked their mind totally to see it all for the hatred of the person at the seat of power. 1 Like 1 Share |

Edelweiss44:oga mathematics aint so difficult. Already showed you that Russian rubles fell from 35 to 80! This is more than 140%! This occured after Russia had spent $67billion to shore up the currency. Tell me why won't Nigeria enter recession when the clueless one had wasted more than half of the foreign reserve during a 'period of plenty'? BTW it's obvious you didn't bother checking any of the Foreign Reserve of any of these countries, if you had done that you would've seen that only Nigeria spent mord than half it's Foreign reserves amd still borrowed more. Buhari despite the bail out funds and shoring up currency have increased the foreign to $42billion. 2 Likes 1 Share |

"In 2014 when oil was between $100 and $114 a barrel, the actual releases for capital for three Ministries, Works,Power and Housing-- then they were separate Ministries was in total N99 billion, while Transportation got N14 billion and Agriculture got N15 billion. I am talking about actual releases not budgeted. Let's compare that to capital releases to the same Ministries in 2017,when oil prices were between $50 and $60 a barrel, N415 billion for Power, Works and Housing, N80 billion for Transportation, N65 billion for Agriculture, totaling N560 billion at a time when we were earning at least 50% less than we were earning in 2014. This is possible because if you do not steal the resources of the people you can spend it on the projects that concerns the people. It is as simple as that". --- Prof. Yemi Osibanjo Vice President Federal Republic of Nigeria @Bola Tinubu 10th Colloquium

CoolAmbience: Glam! Case closed! Nigerian youths are still living in the past, they dream of working in airconditioned offices wearing suits and ties in banks, oil companies or at worst government offices. Well I have advice for you guys, remove your suits and ties and put on jeans, teeshirt and canvas and learn a skill or at worst a trade, and you will earn more money than bankers and even oil workers. 2 Likes |

AlPeter: I looked up the data again, and i confirmed Russia to be a few of the exceptions among all the heavily oil-dependent countries in the world that i mentioned earlier, and true to what you said, their Rouble fell from 35 to 82 per dollar, although it has since recovered to a more reasonable value, and it's at 57 per dollar today. On the contrary, take a look at Saudi Arabia, the most heavily oil dependent country in the Middle East and OPEC's largest exporter. their Riyal has maintained between 3.60 to 3.80 per dollar since 2014 before the oil price crash. Oman's currency remained at between 0.37 to 0.39 per dollar between 2014 and 2018. Norway's Krone has stayed between 6.0 and 7.8 per dollar between 2014-2018. As a general note, oil prices would definitely reduce expected income for oil-dependent nations, and that is why the government needs good and brilliant policies to cushion the shock while attempts are being made to diversify the economy. That is why Norway, despite being the only EU country that is heavily dependent on oil revenues, they still managed to keep things going and their Krone has stayed at 7.8 per dollar, compared to 6.0 before the oil price drop in 2014. That is why Russia's economy has recovered much faster than Nigeria's after the oil price drop that affected revenues of all oil dependent countries. That is why Obasanjo was able to do a lot of capital projects and still paid off Nigeria's $30billion debt during his tenure despite the fact that average oil price during his tenure was not more than $50 per barrel. Today, Buhari has been president for almost 3years, and he has access to oil prices that is above the average throughout Obasanjo's tenure, yet we can't see the projects Buhari's government is initiating and executing. Buhari has been president for little less than 3years and already this government has borrowed more than 11trillion naira, while claiming to have increased foreign reserves to $42billion (as claimed by you, cos i don't have a means of verifying that information's accuracy at this moment). Are Nigerians going to eat foreign reserves? People are losing their jobs everyday in Nigeria, and we are not seeing sound policies that will promote investments that ultimately generate employment, yet you say Buhari is doing well? For your information, BUHARI ALREADY KNEW THE PRICE OF OIL HAS CRASHED AND WAS STILL CRASHING AS AT MARCH 2015 WHEN HE WAS CAMPAIGNING TO BE PRESIDENT AND CLAIMING "HE WILL STABILIZE THE GLOBAL PRICE OF OIL", AND ALSO CLAIMING HE WILL COME TO FIX THE ECONOMY THAT PDP "DESTROYED FOR 16YEARS". NOBODY FORCED HIM TO ACCEPT TO TAKE UP THE JOB OF PRESIDENT, AND HE SAID HE WAS COMING IN THE FIX THE ECONOMY, SO WHY IS HE COMPLAINING ABOUT WHAT HE SAID HE CAME TO FIX? IS IT NOT HIS JOB TO FIX IT? You need to accept the fact that Jonathan is far more intelligent than illiterate Buhari your hero! What is the role of government in job creation? Is it to be employing 3million people a year into the civil service as APC campaigned with in 2015? No! The major job of the government is to create a CONDUCIVE AND ATTRACTIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR INVESTORS TO COME IN AND SET UP BUSINESSES THAT END UP EMPLOYING MORE AND MORE PEOPLE, WHICH ULTIMATELY LEADS TO JOB CREATION AND REDUCTION OF UNEMPLOYMENT. That is the main function of government. Buhari does not understand this. Jonathan understood this far more than Buhari, and that was why there were far more economic-investor-friendly policies under the last government than you have under Buhari. Now you can understand why there were far more jobs and businesses in operation during Jonathan's regime than under Buhari's. I keep saying it to the shame of Buhari supporters that if Obasanjo could keep growing the economy and pay off Nigeria's $30billion debt with oil prices much lower than it has been under Buhari, then i see no reason why Buhari is complaining that he can't do anything because oil prices are low. The only reason for his complaints is pure incompetence! No wonder Bill Gates did not mince words when he visited recently and told Buhari to his face that his government's policies are not good enough to address Nigeria's problems. GET IT INTO YOUR HEAD MAN; THE PROBLEM WITH BUHARI AND NIGERIAN ECONOMY IS A POLICY PROBLEM NOT 'LOW OIL PRICE' PROBLEM! Get the right policies in place and enforce them, and this economy will grow even with oil prices at $40 per barrel! If you doubt, go and ask Norway and other countries like UAE that have moved away from depending heavily on oil and are still doing very fine. 1 Like |

Edelweiss44: What Buhari is talking about in the video you posted is accountability in the oil industry . He talks about putting a stop to wastage and judicious use of oil earnings. Now, trust wailers and mischievous people to quote him out of context and present a narrative that suits their hatred and bias. There is a saying that only a mad man will continue to do the same thing over and over again and yet expect a different result. Your group peddled these lies prior to 2015 election and Nigeria rejected you and the people you represent. 2019 is here again and what tells you that your lies that did not fly in 2015 will fly in 2019? Your party is apologizing to Nigerians for looting the country dry but you are here on a faceless medium grandstanding and spreading lies that did not sell in 2015. Your heroes are been exposed on a daily basis for the thieves that they are. Some of them are facing court charges, some are pleading bargain, returning loots. Court cases are getting to the stage that Judges are asking your heroes to defend the charges against them and throwing out their no case submission based on overwhelming evidence of their looting. PDP will not come back in 2019. Era of high oil price and free money is gone for good. The party is over. Roll up your sleeves and start to engage in legitimate means of eking a living. The earlier you realise these things, the better for you. This will save you from disappointments. 1 Like |

deji17: You see the problem i usually have with programmed Sai baba robots? They never agree their hero is a liar, even when the facts are staring them in the face. How does this your explanation sound in your ears? What has STABILIZING THE PRICE OF OIL got to do with accountability in the oil sector? Is the price of oil set by the oil sector in Nigeria? Is it NNPC that fixes the international price of oil? How can one man wake up and make this kind of statement that he will stabilize the price of oil if he is not clueless on what he is talking about? The supposed mantra of 'creating accountability' in the oil sector, how far has he gone with it? Was it not a few months ago that it came out in the open that the NNPC GMD has been unilaterally approving contracts worth over $25billion without the knowledge or approval of the board or even the Minister of Petroleum? Were you not listening to the news when all that was happening and they initially tried to cover up by saying they were approved by the Vice President while the president was still sick in London? And the vice President had to save himself by denying he approved such contracts. Where is the same Baru today? Is he not still the same GMD of NNPC till today? has he been sanctioned or queried? Is that not corruption? You people's problem is not that you don't know the truth that Buhari is useless to the economy, but you are too deep into APC propaganda that you don't know how to come out, and so you would rather stay in the mud with the likes of Tinubu and be shouting Sai baba while baba is slowly choking the life out of you. |
