Develpeast: Point to me the part of the country that is doing better in terms of job availability, employment, economy. To my recent memory, people all over this country are suffering and can't even get 3 meals a day. I never felt that way about the east. I am not saying that people are not struggling in the east but it's far much worse in other places. So please let's not exaggerate the current situation. No need for self pity. We have already overcome far much worse situations in Nigeria. And if people have to go to find better opportunities else where, so be it as long as they invest back home. 9 Likes 1 Share |

horsepower101: Our attitude towards attracting big FDI is really appalling. Most of our governors only attract foreigners who wants to collect contract from them. The other day, Ikpeazu scammed us that honda company or is it hyundai are planning to build oil refinery in the state but he hasnt said or done anything about it. Many more occasions where we need to leverage on the advantages our region has over other regions, we tend to sleep while the west and the north snap everything from us. |

spyder880: Concrete roads helped America develop very high quality highway systems that didn't require any maintenance for decades and remained smooth like the first day they were built. They started building concrete roads in 1800s and have never stopped. Those raods are still in very good condition today. If the Ebonyi had promoted efforts to resuscitate NigerCem Nkalagu, it would have been use our resources to develop the state.Ebonyi already has the finest quarries that will supply the stones for these projects. But importing cement from outside of Ebonyi to do concrete roads without backward integration into your economy may not be very wise. You are just enriching those who want to impoverish you further. Although concrete roads are the way to getting our roads in good condition for extended periods of time. Especially in a country with poor maintenance culture like Nigeria. 4 Likes

Onitsha generally has this harsh outlook. The look that shows it doesn't care about beauty or order. People build very beautiful edifices there but aesthetics is been dampened by brash outlook. 3 Likes |

realhumanity: Personally I will always prefer local investors over foreign ones because local investors tend to be more loyal with their investments. But no foreigner will feel comfortable to invest where the locals are not willing to invest their money. Please research this and you will realize that it was investments from Hong Kong and Taiwan in china that gave America and Europeans the confidence to start investing in mainland china. They saw the returns. 1 Like |

discusant:/ You are giving too much power to Nzeribe. Nzeribe was only a tool. The same way he did a yeoman's job in the June 12 saga. He danced to the tune of his master(s)...a mere messenger. Someone was the shotcaller. The people agitating for states were seeking the attention and approval of one man. The buck stops at his table. realhumanity: The second part of my response is that the west and the north have a political advantage that will not matter once oil money runs out. For now it's a do or die politics for them and they will do anything to keep us marginalized. Let them continue to snap up whatever they can but at the end of the day, the average Igboman will still be better economically and financially than the average westerner or northerner and that to me is what matters the most. 2 Likes 1 Share |

spyder880: Spyder, Biko we go talk soon. I want to add my own to the skyline and you will be the contractor By the way, i used to dislike these types of buildings until i visited Jerusalem and decided to also visit family in Beirut with my friend on that visit. If you visit Beirut, you will see how Onitsha could transform to the best city if they seriously thought about making water available in these buildings and using renewable electricity such as solar panels and inverters to augument electricity from the grid. Mind you, almost every flat in Beirut where i visited had air-conditioning unit for their flat! Now i am a full supporter of the 4-5 storey buildings because it is the ONLY way to help people have decent apartments in a land scarce city. We just have to work on how to keep the streets paved and cultivate a culture of sinking boreholes for every house or atleast one borehole serving the houses on every street to guarantee constant water supply to residents. Spyder, that is why i love you hanging the 500 gallons tank ontop of that building. We just have to figure a way to make homes have running water and electricity independent of government input in Nigeria. 3 Likes |

HEYWAYA: Paul Ogenyi I totally agree with you on this, Enugu is a dead town ruled by dirty useless uneducated animals and infested with the worst crimes and also infested with human wastes just as we saw recently all over Ogbete market and enugu metropolis. There is no other way to save the deplorable and waste land called Enugu than totally deploying caterpillars to demolish the entire filthy town to the ground. 5 Likes

Enugu generally has a brash dirty ugly outlook. I was in Enugu recently and I was ashamed of all the hype you guys heap here daily. Dirty roads filled with sand and dirty houses. It clearly shows that Enugu does not care about order, aesthetics etc. Enugu state government should do better than playing to the gallery all the time. You judged the great city of Onitsha with just one picture Spyder posted from Obosi but you forgot that there are worse places in Enugu main town. Meanwhile below is still Onitsha. Onitsha is the best planned city in the East. You can take it to HSBC. Develpeast: 5 Likes

horsepower101: Exactly! Beirut looked exactly like Awada layout with good paved roads on every street with running water and electricity not an issue. I suddenly realized that it wouldn't take much to transform Nigeria to a liveable space for everyone to be decently accommodated in those 4-5 storey buildings. We just have to get serious with getting street paved and cleared of trash, water supplied for residents on the building and working on renewable electricity sources. 2 Likes

jamjo: Polutical underepresentation of the Igbo at the federal level is main reason more states are needed in the SE. To be pronounced president, a presidential candidate must win 25% of votes in 36 states. 19 of the states and Abuja were ultimately proliferated by Abacha and IBB in one northern region, thus that makes northern presidential candidate capable of winning any presidential election, unless northern leaders did not say the president must come from the north. Revenue allocation is second reason. SE has lost close to 300 billion Naira federal allocations due to absence of merited sixth state. I am not going to be surprised that you may come from Owerri zone of Imo state. But tell Owerri man that five states in the SE ARE TOO MANY, that Imo state and others shall fuse to former East Central State with Enugu as capital. The Owerri man shall immediately retort "olom," - a big no. But Owerri man is ready to make the SE continue to lose the two advantages of representation and revenue allocation, as Owerri wants to retain the oil producing areas in Orlu zone for development of state capital, Owerri. 1 Like |

horsepower101: Anioma is in the SS. Anioma people shall not agree to be dragged into the SE region. Wake up. Some of you are like: we don't want the extra federal allocations that shall come to the SE if a sixth state is created in the SE; some of you who don't want state created in the SE do not like to be appropriately represented in Nigeria's political process. Self-centered interest, not love for progress of Igbo is behind your stance. Many of you come from state capital, therefore deplore any further state creation. Awful. Tufiakwa, the low level of intellect which some educated Igbos exhibit is alarming. Even the Almajiris are more brilliant than some Igbo PhD holders when matters of Nigeria's political structure and process are the discourse. |

horsepower101: GBAM! I hope one SE state can place orders for this types of vehicle with INNOSON. The state governments have to think about keep the roads clean by buying at least 4 of these types of vehicles for every city. Everyday, you send off the environmental team to go sweep some major roads and plant flowers and trees. If they did it for one year, the whole city will look beautiful and clean. Some SE states have NEVER swept the streets from 1800! 1 Like
