Burning Question 3(was Moses Truly Born In Egypt?) by Thenewtruth: 9:03pm On Apr 03, 2018 |
Good evening all. I will be asking burning questions everyday, hopefully I'll get burning answers. So let me proceed with today's burning question. Background: Moses, as we read in the Bible was born in Egypt but it was in the period the King of Egypt which at that time was threatened by the Hebrews growing population. So he commanded that every babies born of Hebrew's family must be killed. Moses's mother preserved his life by putting him in a basket at a river close to the king's palace. Fortunately for him, he was discovered by the king's daughter who adopted him as a son. Moses spent most of his childhood and a vital part of his adult life at the Palace. In Hebrews 5:1-2 Afterward Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Let My people go, that they may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness.’ ” And Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, nor will I let Israel go.” Moses spent critical part of his life in the palace and no one recognized him. no nephews, no nieces, no had maiden, no cousins recognized him. Odd. Then in Exodus 6:12 which says And Moses spoke before the Lord, saying, “The children of Israel have not heeded me. How then shall Pharaoh heed me, for I am of uncircumcised lips?” Emphasis on uncircumcised. Was it possible the people knew he was a foreigner and they said it to his face? Knowing the covenant of circumcision God has with Abraham. Again in Exodus 4:25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone and cut off the foreskin of her son and cast it at Moses' feet, and said, “Surely you are a husband of blood to me!” The covenant of circumcision God made with Abraham state every child at 8 days old must be circumcised? Moses failed to do it with his son. Burning Question : Was Moses truly born in Egypt? |

Yes. First off it is clearly written there that Moses was born in Egypt and his mother had to hide him in a basket so he wouldn't be killed, can't you read and understand? You talked about nobody being able to recognize him? Like seriously? Moses wasn't even up to a year before he was taken to the palace and if you're his cousin will you come out and start telling the whole truth about him, knowing that they will probably kill him, his mother and even yourself? Can't you think? And yes the Egyptians knew that Moses was an Israelite but since he was adopted by the kings daughter there was nothing they could do. For the circumcision part, that should probably even tell you that Moses probably didn't spend up to eight days with his mother before being tossed out. And since it wasn't an Egyptian culture, he grew up without being circumcised. My advice? Stop trying to see things that are not there in the Bible. Moses was born in Egypt and grew up in the palace from the time he was weaned from his mother. If you think otherwise, then explain why his mother will put him in a basket and leave him by the riverside. Because she's poor? Wicked? Or what? 2 Likes |

Premiumwriter: Please read my post very well. We were told by Moses himself, that he was adopted as a Son by Pharaoh's daughter. Remember all these was written by Moses and not his mother. My Question was, how come when Moses went to see Pharaoh for the first time, no one recognized him as a child adopted by Pharaoh's daughter and who grew up in the palace? And Moses was with his mother for 3 months so your defense didn't hold any water. 1 Like |

Thenewtruth: Are u an amateur bible disputer or simply dumb? When Moses went back to Egypt most people who would have recognied him were dead. Exodus 4:19 And the Lord said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men are dead which sought thy life. |

Edu3Again: Stop trying to use cheap insults to silence him. Counter him intelligently with your own points. I don't see him insulting anyone, at least not yet. Op I believe he was truly born in Egypt and raised in the palace. The issue here is that Moses is an Israelite by origin, but since he was not raised up in the Jewish community, certain customs eluded him as they were not observed in the Egyptian palace. Remember when he left Egypt and drove away those shepherds troubling Jethro's daughters, they reported back to him and proclaimed that "An Egyptian helped us". Most likely coz he was dressed, spoke and behaved like one. He spent a really long time with Jethro and became a shepherd before encountering the burning bush. I believe it was a new Pharaoh he encountered in Egypt, one who definitely didn't know him or take him serious. If it were to be the old one (the father of his adopting mom) he would have had him arrested and probably killed upon his very first return to the palace. Remember also that Moses took a second wife who was not an Israelite. I doubt he would have done that if he grew up in the Jewish community. He also didn't circumcise his eldest son till the Angel sought to kill him and Zipporah did it for him. It's been very long I've read those passages so I can't quote verse for verse and word for word. |

Edu3Again:Obviously you are the amateur. The people who sought to kill him. And not everyone living in the Pharaoh's palace. |

blessedvisky: Thank you for your polite response. And thank you for seeing the angle I'm coming from. He didn't know anything about the Jewish custom. So how sure are we that all the laws he gave to the people of Isreal were from God and not from other culture knowing his father in law was a Priest? That will be my next burning question. |

Thenewtruth:Well, I wouldn't say he knew nothing about Jewish custom. He may have known and probably wasn't too keen on observing them ie the 2nd non-Jewish wife thingy. A strong point we should note here is that the only known Jewish custom at this time was the Abrahamic covenant ie the circumcision thingy. All others were started after Moses got back to Egypt, eg Passover, the yearly sacrifice for sins, etc, so he is an innovator of some sort. Concerning where he got the laws from, well I don't know how religious the midianites were, so we can't really say if Moses got them directly or indirectly from Jethro. |
