You are so pained, it seems you know the family personally. But seriously doing farm work does not equal poverty and you don't wear your best to go do farm work. So I don't think this scenario is a veritable tool to judge whether he is taking care of his mother or not.

One of the reasons I have this fear whether the young ones would fare better if given a chance at governance. Too many youths going about with empty skulls. You have spoken well.
My aged lecturer in school after her retirement came back to the class room to lecture, she said she didn't mind to do it for free, boredom will kill her.
My dad after his retirement from Nigerian Ports Authority is a big time farmer now. His pension money is regular and we the kids supplement, he still farms. He said he can't keep still. That's old people for you and you better allow them.

you are talking as if you don't know how mothers behave, especially the ones that have lived in the village all their lives, they can't do without going to the farm, if they stop farming less than one month they fall sick and die.
my grandmother before she passed on ,would ask her grand children to reduce or turn off the electric bulb because she didn't like it. she puts her kerosene lantern always. she vehemently rejected the new house and remained in her old house. ask me how old she was when she died happily

Unfortunately, you don't know jack about the lives of old people,we made the same mistake of stopping my mum from working,we felt she needs not to work that hard again, guess what? the woman became a regular patient at the hospital and eventually died late last year at the age of 76.
In one of those visit to the hospital the doctor made us realized that her sickness was due to her inactivity, but it was too late for us to reverse that decision.

My advise for anyone with an old parents is to allow them the freedom to do whatever gives them joy and keep them active

Abeg, I don visit this people house for their village. Had an interesting conversation about Nigerian politics with the dad. Na over humbleness. Don't blame old people. Cars dey compound sef wey old man no gree drive. Old man sef being a retired senior civil servant sef no suppose too loyal like that. With brand new houses and cars, some earning more money old man is super humble, sociable and friendly. Just like my granny of blessed memory, this granny will be thinking she'll die the day they stop her from going to her fam. I also remember a friend's granny who passed recently. She's hardly stopped going to farm. Till point of death she refused to live with them and be taken care of, preferring her very humble abode.
Stay, free oldies and embrace life like them... In fact, we're supposed to be closer to them. Lucky you if you still have them.

I don't know his story but some aged parents are just like that

They never quit working even if their children are extremely wealthy and take care of them

Working or farming is their way of keeping healthy and living long

Parents like that die easily when you take them off their farms and bring them to luxurious rooms..

So, maybe we shouldn't judge him

GBAM!!!! God bless you o.
From comments I see here, I now know most people think money is happiness, she farming doesn't mean she's poor, but its what she loves doing..poor people mentality everywhere. why don't some of you take your mother to the USA and see whether or not she won't disturb you after 2weeks that she wanna come back to our 'shithole' naija..mothers are just happy with what they have.
