bengine:@the first bold, Ideye has once played the wide man in a 4-3-3 for the SEs and he excelled in that role. He brought out the best in Emenike during AFCON'13. the second bold is assumptive. We can never write them off just like that. The only problem is that time is against us and there is no longer room for experimentation(as I've stated in my earlier post). All that is needed to be done is to find a quick fix to the inability of our point men to score and how do we do that? Get a potent striker to provide more options for the coach. |

tbaba1234: ooooo yes....i watch him through online streaming...he is always winning penalties and free-kicks at dangerous positions...its like this his contant fallings can used to our advantage..why not? We play according to our strenght..all is fair...Another thing i like about him is that he is not afraid to take on two or even three defenders and he doesnt turn back ooooo...very courageous...its been long we had his type of striker 2 Likes |

gamaliel9: Exactly, he is not afraid to take on players and that inevitably leads to fouls against him. In a tight game, you might need free kicks and penalties to make the difference. |

forgiveness: How many starts did he get in Serie A? He had to wait for Bellotti to get injured to start a few games for Torino.. And he did take on defenders when he had the chance. |

forgiveness: Not enough opportunity...Those team he played for had more experience and quality strikers[ Dzeko,Bellottti, etc]. He was taking-on defenders ooo, seriously. I think Umar is under construction like a building or a road |

tbaba1234: Bros, I was the first person here to clamor for Sadiq Umar's invitation to the national team and Olympics team because I followed his games bumper to bumper but I didn't see him do what he is doing now I the Eredivise in the Seria A. It simply means Eredivise is not up to the standard of Sergio_A to cut it short and simple. 1 Like |

bengine: I actually agree with you. However, Ronaldo would probably stand out. It's a hard league to play good technical football but if you can somehow overcome all those obstacles and play a skill based technical individual game then you will stand out then coming to the EPL will not be too difficult. That is where Dele Alli came from England arguably most skillful player followed by Adam Llanna also came from league 1 with Southampton and in more recent times England current best defender ( my opinion) Gomez came from League one. And closer home so also did Ademola Lookman. Do you know how hard it is to play technically proficient skill based football, when you are surrounded by carpenters and water carriers. However there are a few teams that play good football like Chartlton, MK Dons, Peterborough and Shrewsbury. Don't forget MK Dons disgraced Manchester United a few years ago beating them 4-1 if I remember correctly. Downgrade is a very sweeping statement. Did I down grade Obagoal, V.Moses Mikel, Ighalo, Ndidi, KC., etc You are being misleading. We are taking about a 21 year old who has not played up to twenty professional games in his entire career. And I stand by what I say Sadiq who you say is extremely strong fast and skillful will struggle in League one. So those attributes are questionable when put to comparison. |

tbaba1234:free kicks? not when Moses will bully nancho and Moses Simon misuse them.... we will never get anything useful from free kicks should it be left to Moses V. to play. he is not an accurate shooter of the ball and rarely shot wit precision. 2 Likes |

forgiveness: Chief he does take on defenders in seria A, that is his style of play..he just didn't get enough minutes to showcase himself plus the rustiness of sitting on the bench affects a player confidence...that confidence is what he is gaining back at eredivise since he is getting more minute.. When Roma played against Psg in the friendly, he was taking on their defenders like crazy..watch the highlight again..this were champion league defenders ooo..I was in the stadium that day, I was surprised he had that kind of flair..this were psg first team defenders ooo..I was even surprised when I saw those defenders playing in champions league, at that time the only psg defender I recognised then was thiago silva and kurzawa..in fact Dani alves played on that day too..please watch the highlight again.. The point I'm trying to make is he is not afraid of any defender, that has his style, he has a directness about him.. 1 Like |

bengine:Let's stop this. Assuming we're taking out finishing, Ideye is comfortably a better option than Umar. I like Umar, but sorry Ideye is better when it comes to linking up play. I also think Ideye is underrated on the ball. Like someone said earlier, he can play alongside Ighalo/Nacho in a 4-3-3 which can easily morph to a 4-4-2 or as the main CF with someone like Nacho out wide. Ideye was 75 percent responsible for Emenike's success from the 2013 afcon and afterward. Emenike mostly struggled without him. I personally feel we need creativity. Aluko for example can play as a 10, outwide and even as a false 9. That's the type of options we should be looking to add to the team(assuming if Rohr is still scouting) |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by tbaba1234: 7:00am On Apr 08, 2018 |
edi287: Ideye has 6 goals in 27 games for the super eagles... That is 1 goal every 4.5 games.... His record is even worse than Ighalo.. How does that make him a better option in finishing? Ideye-Emenike partnership was 5 years ago 2013.. Since then, several things have happened, Emenike for one is no longer in the team. Ideye has failed to impress in the confederations cup, went on a terrible barren spell for Nigeria, failed in West brom, had a decent spell in greece, was poor in China, has not been great in Spain and He has been left out the last three games with no injury. Ideye is a hard-working player but his recent results are limited. Facts... In terms of style of play, Ideye and Ighalo are also fairly similar... Granted, we need creativity and it might be late for someone like Umar but it does not mean that it should not be talked about. 3 Likes |
