Thanks op. It's unfortunate that African countries top the religiosity list and are the poorest nations. America though is right in the middle and is said to be the richest, while China is said to be the least religious (which isn't true), and is not the richest either. For comparison, a search for richest countries per capita reveals the following: These are the richest countries in the world per capita. United Arab Emirates ($68,250) ... Kuwait ($69,670) ... Norway ($70,590) ... Ireland ($72,630) ... Brunei ($76,740) ... Singapore ($90,530) ... Luxembourg ($109,190) ... Qatar ($124,930) The small Middle Eastern country often ranks as one of the richest countries in the world per capita. |

asuustrike2009:You don come again...Sweden, Netherlands, Switzerland are among the least religious countries in the world compare them with Nigeria that is very religious. Now use your church mind and tell among the four countries which is very morally corrupt? One among the countries even has almost empty prisons, which one is it? The very religious or least religious one? 2 Likes |

asuustrike2009:You are just fond of pulling out claims from thin air that you can not back up. UK and US have a significant number of religious people. US alone has almost 70% Christians and the UK 59% Christians. Yet they are all morally corrupt. Guy use your Church mind next time, at least do a bit of small googling before you drop claims it will save you a lot from looking stupid when you claims are being countered. Now answer my questions below and stop dodging kevoh: 2 Likes |

nwabekeyi:No, Qatar is not a member of G anything, or 'power', but they are one of the richest per capita, and I think, highly religious too. Kind of goes against the op, don't you think? |

It's not so much that they are the "poorest" but that they are the most inequitable and unstable. The people hide behind religion and then commit the worst atrocities against their neighbor and environment. It's a sign that religion and mental illness are closely linked - xtians often claim that "only a fool claims there is no god" when the reality is that only a damaged person self-harms and that is what many of these religious people do to their environment, their children and their neighbors and their countries at large. 2 Likes 1 Share |

nwabekeyi: I would say religion as practiced in Nigeria is a byproduct of poverty, backward mentality combined with failed government and this can be easily observed |

nwabekeyi: There is a strong correlation between income inequality and religiosity: The greater the income inequality in a country, the more religious are its inhabitants. If there is a correlation between income inequality and religiosity, is it that 1. Religion makes people less fair, or that 2. Inequality makes people more religious? The latter appears to be the case—to paraphrase loosely (and admittedly put it from my perspective), it seems that when people are faced with inequalities that they cannot do anything about, because the wealthy elite is too entrenched—regardless of whether this is between minimum wage earners and the elites, or starving peasants versus their dictator and his cronies—they turn to the balm of religion to comfort themselves: since the problem can’t actually be solved, they turn to the notion that, hey, even if we’re screwed in this life, there will be another, and boy do these fat cats (the elites) have it coming 1 Like 1 Share
