Ok so im thinking, since its undastood that NEPA mains charge inverter batteries better than Generators (for reasons actually unknown), what then is the solution to this? Why should i be getting more juice out of my battery bank wen i charge with mains for about 3hrs than wen i charge with generator for 5hrs? The plan is to save, right? I dont want to burn money on fuel just to get lil juice in the battery at the end.
Will adding an external Smart Charger to the inverter wenever im using Generator help?

Plus, between Monocrystalline and Polycrystalline Solar panels, which is best? The reasons too pls..
Can i hook up solar panels to my existing inverter system and how? NOTE: Inverter is not a hybrid, i only charge through mains.

Please I need your help, I bought a 2200watts inverter and a smart charger, when it was time to buy the batteries, based on my budget I could either go for 2 deep cycle 100ah each or 2 calcium batteries 150ah each. I called my installer and he said there is no harm using the calcium batteries. Now after installation, the charger during charging charges up to 25.4v then it stops at that point the percentage is about 64% to 67%, it doesn't go higher than this. Also when I switch to inverter the percentage increases to 100% and remains like that until the inverter start beeping, the voltage drops from 25.4 to 24.4 and then starts running down quickly and my appliances goes off at about 21.1v

I only put on 3 power saving bulbs, 1fan, charge 2 phones, 1 laptop and my 55inch LED TV at a time.

The installer checked it and said the problem is with the connection, that one socket which powers my fridge was still connected to the inverter and he rectified it but I am still having this problem of charging my batteries for more than 5 hours only to have it low afer about 30mins.

Please tell me what I need to do. Thanks.

1. You should have gone for regular deep cycle batteries. ..
2. You should have gotten an inverter that has an inbuilt charger since the smart charger is not so smart anyways
3. 25.4V is about 12.7V per battery . . which is just about 100% for a full battery but herein lies the trick . . the battery is not yet full
A competent charger has to raise your battery voltage to about 14.4 - 14.8 per battery . . i.e about 28.8 - 29.6 V in your case
and stay there for at least 2 hours; before bringing it down to 13.4 - 13.8 i.e. 26.8 - 27.6 in your case.
This will indicate thorough 100% charge.
Since the smart charger isn't doing so . . your batteries are heavily sulfating and dying with with each passing day.
4. Lead acid batts shouldn't be discharged past 50% (30% dod (depth of discharge) is better)
You have been taking your battery to 10.5V instead of maximum 12.0V (50%) . . you have been flatlining those batteries to 0%
They are dead already . .

Bottom line: You will need a new inverter with charging capabilities and new batteries else; "SORRY NA YOUR NAME"

Pound for pound, mono gives more energy yield . .but the price difference between them vs energy gained
isn't so much for a good bargain

Yes, you can hook up solar panels. You will need to do a comprehensive load audit to know the amount of panel power required
et al.

The use of external chargers is highly discouraged; except you can't help it.

Get an inverter with good charging capabilities or add a solar array

Are u saying the extra energy yield isn't worth the extra buck for mono?

So why external charger in the first place ...

If u read my writeup well, u'll find out dat I never have issues with my Inverter charging the batteries through Nepa, my issue is charging with gen. I'm not the only one dat has complained, well except for pple using bigger diesel gens. I use a 1.1Kva, 12v Microtek Inverter with two 200Ah AGM batteries in parallel, the inverter itself outputs 15-20Amps of charging current, it's very good wen on Nepa. I also use a 2.9Kva petrol gen to charge it n dats wer my issue Coms in, it seems slower wen charging with gen (gen is very sound and never been worked on), hence, I'm thinking of employing an extra smart charger to help boost up the charging speed while using gen, u get now?

Let me break it down for you now:

Inverter is 1.1 kva (apparent power); so real power (minus inefficiencies (considering power factor)) would be 1100 VA * 80%= 880 Watts

You said charge current 10 - 20 AMps.. Let me use 20 amps x 14.6 v (average voltage)= 292 wATTs at any given hour or less (if i use nominal voltage of 12.7)

Batteries: 200Ah X 2 X 12 = 4800Wh

Charging time:

1. Assuming battery is depleted to zero: 4800/292= 16 to get to roughly 80%; when you factor in absorption time and take note that the charge pattern isn't a linear graph since current will keep reducing over time . . so add extra 3 hours= 19 hours plus
So it would take about 19 hours to get thoroughly full if you allow batteries deplete that inverter turns off itself

2. Assuming battery is depleted to 50%: 4800/2/292= 8 hours.. add extra absorption time= 11 hours or so.

The point is that the inverter is not capable of charging those batteries sufficiently . . While on NEPA you might leave it overnight and experience good charge..But do you keep your gen turned on for 20 hours at a stretch to charge your battery . . .
I doubt so...If you do,then battery would be as good as when charged via NEPA

I repeat, You would be better off using an inverter with good charging capabilities e.g. one that offers 50 - 70 Amps on 12V

20Amps isn't even ideal for a 24V inverter but can be managed.

Bro, u still dnt get me. What inverter do u use and do u use gen to charge it? If yes, what's the capacity of ur gen?
I dnt hav any issue with the charging current of my Inverter. Plus it doesn't take dt much time to charge it up to full with Nepa wen it's fully discharged(which I hardly do), trust me, I keep serious tabs. My Inverter takes 14hrs+- 25mins to charge my batteries to full wen it's fully depleted. This is not even what I'm talking about, lemme giv u a layman's explanation of wat I'm saying:

I charge fully depleted battery with Nepa for 5hrs = 7hrs usage time till it fully depletes.

Then, I charge fully depleted battery with gen for 5hrs = 3hrs usage time till it fully depletes.

Plus iv never seen a well known, good 12v inverter with upto 50 - 70 Amps charging current. You can show me one, I'd luv to knw. PS: good brands like Sukam, Microtek, Luminous etc
Not all those Samuel L. Jackson inverters o, dat don't have a charging program, as long as der's power, dey'll continue charging ur batteries till dey become pregnant. Lol

I also have a microtek 2000 watts 24V model . . and yes I charge with a generator (4kva gasoline generator) and no depreciation whatsoever.
If it is exactly as you have described, you might want to add a 2kva (at least) stabilizer between generator and inverter to sanitize the input.
Your generator is not producing clean power.
There are many inverters just that' you've been looking at the wrong (cheap) places
Magnasine has a 12V version that offers 70 amps (close to 500k) ..and so does Felicity (upwards of 150k)
Just that they don't come cheap

Sukam, Microtek, Luminous are tier-3 (budget) inverters

I know Felicity Solar, they installed the solar system we use in my office, a 5kVa system with 10pcs 200Ah batteries, all the batteries died within 10months.
Well, I'll consider adding a stabilizer, thanks for that. Looking at Solar too. If I giv u a typical daily load, can u giv an estimate of how many panels will be sufficient? For charging only, then charging and simultaneously using it for load

I can give 1001 reasons why a battery can die . . . that is not tied to any specific inverter model
ranging from poor load audit, faulty installation, bad battery make etc

Provide typical daily load.

Two energy saving bulbs.

Playstation 4 Slim system = 80W

Home Theater system = 115W (hardly use).

I'll luv a solar system dat can power the 42" TV, Gotv decoder, 1 cieling fan during the week days and still charge the batteries for peeps at home while I'm at work. Having enough juice for me to relax and play my game after work for at least 3 hrs

What is the wattage of the decoder = 15W i presume?

The bulbs how many watts too = 15? 10? 25?

ceiling fans should be 80 watts

I am yet to see a home-use theater system for 115W.. . should be no more than 30W max
