There is a reason why there is loan and lenders are aware of the risks inherent in granting loans. No lender would give you a 100k loan without the necessary risk assessment. They look at your GMAT score, your undergraduate degree (they like STEM graduates), your school, your pre-MBA work experience and post-MBA career aspirations, your Pre-MBA salary, etc. So the idea that taking a loan is bad must be properly situated. Treasury Bills and Bond yields are around 14%, if you are from Nigeria and barring FX risk, it pays to find your MBA with a loan and earn the spread between the lower cost of debt and the higher yields. It is a worthy risk to fund your education with a loan if that is the only option you have. This especially true if you're a Nigerian. All MBA grads have a one year OPT and can be employed and file for H1B. But you have to picked at the first trial else you can't try next time. The difference is that the STEM guys can go for the H1B lottery three times while an MBA grad on 12 months OPT goes once. Another point is that things are changing and many MBA concentrations are getting approved as STEM designated. So the submission that MBA degrees are not STEM designated is being disrupted. [/quoteAll you have stated is perfectly true, in fact, in my school, you have the option to do an MBA and Master of Finance or Master of Information systems dual degree, which makes you have the option of getting the STEM extension, however, that is CONTINGENT on you getting a job that is directly related to Finance or MIS. I am a very informed MBA student and I have seen many international students that got lucky (or maybe good enough) to get a job, file for H1B, etc. But I have seen many more that have not been able to secure one, even with STEM degrees. The current administration is really really really anti-immigrants. Will all immigrants be sent out of the United States?, very unlikely. But would many be forced out, I would say yes. I have not said anyone should not take a loan, but all I have said is MBA or any other degree in the US, or studying in an ivy-league is NOT a ticket to getting a good job and good life. If you have the risk appetite to borrow so much because you think the United States is heaven on earth, go ahead but my point is, everyone need to know what the situation is. Simple. 6 Likes |

oluwasegun007:Your SEVIS fee is valid for a whole year, so you do not need to pay any fraction during the year it is valid. If you have a new SEVIS ID, be aware that you'll have to transfer the fee from your old SEVIS ID to the new one. 1 Like |

Good day guys, my GRE is in June. I have a little job that takes a good chunk of my time so I am limited to studying only in the evenings. I would like to know if this time frame is enough to study and get a good score in the exam. thanks guys |

Hi everyone. Pls I need clarification about statement of account for F1 visa. If for example I need 8Million naira for my program, is it compulsory that the entire sum must have been in my sponsor's account for more than 3 months before Visa application. Thanks for your anticipated reply. |

I get your point. Whoever has gotten to the point of going for a masters especially an MBA should be aware of the dynamics around getting visa and other related matters. My position is get out of the US if you are out of status. I however beg to differ on the position that the present administration is anti immigrants. While that submission holds true on a general note, Trump has not implemented any anti H1B policy. The quota is still 65,000 regular and 20,000 masters as it has been since year 2005. You are bound to see more cases of unsuccessful H1B applicants as the demand far outweighs the available 85,000 slots. For the 2018 fiscal year, the USCIS received 199,000 petitions, 114,000 are not getting approved and when you consider the fact the many of the 114,000 might file again next year, then we have a case of a mounting demand with fixed supply and the woe tales would only increase. 1 Like |

Shigoboy:it takes a longer time for office of admission to process your documents and evaluate it for admission as far as the undergraduate admission is concerned.. it took almost a month and a week during my own time that was almost 5weeks.. and the school will always promise 2-3weeks.. BBFE: I smiled when I saw his comment sha I'm even surprised why I rarely find any HBS /Wharton/Stanford GSB student here. Taking loans is a thing of how risk averse you are. Maybe he is someone scared of taking risks and he opted not to take the $100k loan. MBA recruitment is sensitive to ranking Yes, his classmates join Boeing and Amazon but he can't compare the percentage of his class that joined those firms to the class at a top 10 program. Also, the possibility of joining those programs from a lowly ranked school is difficult. MBA is non STEM but there is a plethora of jobs and opportunities for people in top programs including international students. It's your responsibility to grab those opportunities and utilize them to your best. A LARGE number of Nigerians took those loans and are working in some of the best companies in the world now. Those opportunities wouldn't have come if they had taken those fully funded offers to lowly ranked programs. The big boys hire from top programs. Most people who take those loans do it cos they want to join some specific companies. You can't compare the percentage of Kellogg MBA class entering McKinsey, Bain or Boston as Associates to the percentage of University of Texas Dallas MBA class entering those firms You cant also compare the percentage of Wharton MBA class entering top Private Equity firms to the percentage of George Washington University MBA students entering those firms My advice to anyone seeking to go for MBA is to visit websites like gmatclub.com, poetsandquants.com and beatthegmat to learn more from people in the field. Taking advice from someone who doesn't know Jack about MBA programs is detrimental to your future. The only thing they tell you is "MBA is non-STEM" . 4 Likes |
