First confirm if you bootloader is unlocked. Settings - About phone - tap miui version like 7 times to enable developer options. Then go back to settings - Additional settings - Developer options - Mi unlock status.

@Gptech what does it mean when mine is showing unlocked

It's just the name..it's LTE supported SIM card but no band 28 ..so I use only the 3G

i got a redmi 5 plus (4GB, 64GB) which seems to have a fake ROM. I have since been unable to activate find device on the phone and received no updates

the miui version is "miui global 9.2|stable
9.2.6.0.0(NEGMIEK)

Any help on how i can get an original ROM on my device

I also have not been able to activate my find my device, but I've gotten update since the day I bought it and even updated it.

It is OK phone. Battery life is good but u need like 3 hrs to recharge it from 0 to 100 %. Camera is below average. Check my previous posts

Also run cleaner to clear other grease.

When it didn't work, just played it like that and after awhile, the sound became clearer.
It working perfectly now but how long?

I finally succeeded in dragging ntel network to my xiaomi mi max 2.

I did it via this method... After turning it on, then selected ntel as my internet sim I used the *#*#4636#*#* then selected LTE only as network.
Then I went to search the available network manually, then selected ntel. After a while it rejected, I simply left the phone for a while and ntel showed up.

i think that is actually the current android version from xaiomi. 8.0 will come later.
