My system doesn't come up sometimes when I put it on, the power light will be on but the screen won't display (not a screen problem)
Sometimes I'll have to manually put it off, then try putting it on again before it'll finally come up (sometimes I try this 5/6times before it comes up)
What could be the problem?
Hard disk??
Processor??
My one kobo opinion. If you can open the system on your own, try the following
1. Remove the RAM module and seat it back. If there are two, try swapping them. If it still doesn't work, try using one RAM stick at a time. If it still doesn't work, move to number 2
2. Since you said it's not a screen problem, this may fix it but the probability is lower than 50%. Remove the video cable and put it back.
3. This would be your fix. You opened the laptop recently I guess. Open it again. You probably dislodged the processor. Remove the heatsink. Open the screw to unlatch the processor. Make sure it aligns with all the pins and put it back. And then, close the opening screw. Replace your heatsink and reassemble your pc. Make sure everything is tightly connected. Then restart your pc. If this doesn't work, either your motherboard or your processor is damaged. I don't think it has anything to do with the hard drive

Are you sure the same doesn't happen on battery? Try reinstalling the drivers or updating them. If it doesn't work, Oga, disable the Ps2 mouse and buy a USB mouse, preferably an optical one. I got one for 1,500. And I prefer using it cheesy

my system showed this please.. what can I do..
boot device not found
pls install an operating system on your harddrive
You are installing Windows as a clean installation right? After installing the Windows from CD or flash drive unto your hard drive (be sure you have done this), reboot the pc.
Go into bios(maybe f2 or f10, but usually it shows the : esc to pause startup. Press Esc. It will show the right key to enter Bios. Navigate to system configuration and enter boot options. Go to boot order and move "notebook hard drive" or anyhow it may be written as, to the top of the list
Exit Bios and try startup

If it is not a clean installation, that means you probably have been using it before, try checking your hard drive. It may have dislodged especially if you don't have a bracket covering it like most people do. Fix it in properly. If it doesn't work, get an external connector and connect it to another pc to check that the hard drive isn't corrupted. If you can't access your files, it means it is corrupted. Get a new hard drive. Hope it works for you

Display problem might be as a,result of the screen getting spoilt, the ram damaged or the Vga need to be reworked to be resurrected again... 3k is much but U have to give it a try with him sha

I think @ sexymonkey needs to know the exact problem first thereafter the cost.

If it's a RAM issue, then I'll say replace the RAM and go ahead and sell.

But if it's a VGA issue then just fix (it's a temporary fix) and use personally while you await the death of the X1000 in about 6 months to a year - the x1000 must have really served, so don't forget to bid it a befitting good bye when the time comes grin.

Orrrrr
You can sell and receive a series of calls about same issue.
I don't want to imagine the torture of calls like these.

*cheers *

BTW - I guess you should know what to do by now

I believe the fault is from the vga.

sexymonkey:

I'll advise you don't.
But if you insist... Let's break it down

Here we go

Current value of the PC is 30k to 35k. That is for something fully functional, no issues for the next 3-5 years.

Now for yours once the VGA can no longer be resurrected, you'll have to change the board which is about 15k to 20k if it's still available in the market.

Let's do the maths...
For the sake of fairness to the buyer, you'll give him/her that chance of getting the board.

So, 35k-20k=15k (don't worry my math is good grin)

I no wan talk again ooo

... and yes 15k is what you should let it go for...

The higher you go the more criminal it becomes (lol, that sounds like a new law of physics)

*cheers*

The price should be between #2000 up depending on location.
and as for the selling price no buyer will buy it more than 20k depending on location unless the body of the laptop is new and OK..and also if the processor is Intel it might favour you but if Na Amd the price go reduce drastically

just like fourier series expansion, 15k is a fair price since it has been useless since 2016.

Hi.
Are there any beeps or blinks. If yes, how many and at what intervals?
Thanks for the response, I later googled the problem and discovered that it was RAM. One out of the two 2GB RAM is bad. I am using the good one now pending when i will go to computer village. Thanks once again

On a lighter note
Let me help you predict what will happen next grin

You discovered 1/2 is bad
> you're using the other one
>then the second probably goes capoot (due to complacency)
>now it's 2/2 (and probably you saved one Series that night you wanted to watch grin)
> the system didn't turn up
> you call "someone you know" in computer village > you talk and agree on price > he says you should come by 10:00am > But You show up at 6:00am grin.

Seller senses desperation and changes tone > one of you goes mad at the other person... Either way he walks away with his RAM, you walk away with your money...

You might actually buy. But just incase you don't... Here's what will happen :

So out of frustration you walk out of Computer Village regretting why you ever knew this person in the first place (how wicked, inconsiderate and Non God fearing he is) then you vow you'll shine your eyes next time.

But one thing leads to the other and you begin to think : maybe, just maybe buying the laptop sef was a waste of time, afterall its one miserable Core i3 or Dual Core which you have been dreaming to swap (or your people have been yabbing you to change). Maybe you'll just get another laptop... Maybe you'll hold on till when you save your three month salary then get that slim i7 you saw on OLX. In one word - you toss your laptop under the bed.

Three months down the line and no savings for that data sub you always wanted, the daily stress, the work has totally made all thoughts about that Core i7 sip away.

One day sha there was one document you wanted to quickly submit in a week time and you needed system badly, you didn't want to borrow (don't forget they've been yabbing you o). Then all of a sudden, like a revelation you remembered that Laptop you tossed under the bed 90 days ago!

Well, you say to your self, "shebi its just RAM na"
You ring "your person" in computer village and the following convoy ensued :

You: How far na
Your person(YP) : I dey o... Na wa o, dis one wey you call me... You just dey para for me dat day abi?
You: No nah no be like that, you see enh... No vex... Just tell me if e dey make I come Carry am.
YP : Oya come with 2k o
You : 2k for Wetin na, after all that has happened! Ahn Bros nawa for you oo. 1500.

"your person now needs the money, it's time for revenge so you capitalise on that.

YP : oya dey Come. Which side you day?

Long story short - you guys meet and test the RAM... are you dreaming... The system didn't display? Are you kidding me?

Well, all hell is let loose as your junior Bros & Sis are in hot soup today... Afterall you were told something poured on the laptop like liquid or stuff...

Needless to say it was fixed but instead of 3k or 2k for a RAM chip you could have easily fixed 90 days ago , your friend is now telling you to "thank your stars " that they just collected 10k to fix "one tin one tin" and you bought those RAM too.

Hugh,
Your laptop is back now and just like the old days, the series and movies are back!

Funny as the above may be, I do believe that when it comes to electronics, leave no minor issue to chance. You want to replace something, replace as soon as you can, not when all parts die...Second- Electronic issues can really put someone in desperation mode, so, while you're shopping, keep calm as you make you purchases - be in control

If you know a good chip level engineer, not just any chip level oo, I mean a good chip level engineer that uses infrared BGA rework Station, the component can be replaced or better still they can do a conversion from discrete to uma.
