Yes thank you.. We already communicating via DM.. By the way thank you for your awesome tips on ielts listening. I did a search on tips mentioned on the thread and yours stood out. Do you have anymore tips for maps and diagrams apart from tracing with a pencil?

Tracìng with pencil is the best way to do maps. For diagrams, depends on what diagram it is. A diagram like the Biogas plant (don't know if you've come across the practice test on mini ielts website) requires full attention because the audio is being descriptive so you have to follow quickly to get each part being described. A good way is to study the diagram quickly in the few minutes you're given before you start that section. Hope this makes sense?

it's quite long sha, i'll try to add links during the weekend.

I’ve always believed that exam is a test of both a person and the person’s God. I see it as 50/50: my ability and God’s ability. My ability can only get so far and God does the rest.

Pre-preparation
Read, research and ask questions. I got hints from friends who have written before, and a lot of links and advice from here. I had been following the thread and bookmarking all the shared tips.

I read almost all IELTSLiz articles to understand the ‘theoretical’ aspect of the test.

Listening & reading
Cambridge general training. Get them from https://ieltsmaterial.com

Started practicing about three weeks to the exam, practiced intensively until I was scoring band 9 consistently. At this point, I switched to only one test a day. Find your weak points and focus on them.

Speaking
Learned about JAM technique here… search on youtube.

My main resource was IELTSJay PPF (Youtube). I used his test simulation videos. When speaking he’d pause, and then I’d actually answer like it was a real test. On test day, I ensured the examiner always had to interrupt me before i would stop talking (nairaland tip).

Learn to talk on any topic for two minutes without repeating yourself. PPF will help with this.

Lastly, on that day while awaiting my turn I ensured I chatted with other candidates. This reduced my nervousness. I also smiled a lot and was natural with the examiner.

Writing
Nairaland taught me that fear of writing is the beginning of wisdom. But na God get power. IELTS Jay simulation videos were key for writing task one. His formal and semi-formal templates were on point, but I used Liz to learn Informal. This is because I did not trust Jay: when he wrote ielts he only scored 6.5 in writing lol. He had to remark for 7.5.

For task two I used the ieltsliz website. Towards the end I followed a friend’s tip: there are samples on Ihttps://www.ielts-exam.net/ielts_writing_samples_task_2/. So you read the question, draft out your response, then read the model answer and correct yourself

Addition:
Never overestimate yourself, the people writing ielts 9 times are not dullards. ielts is a HUMBLER of personalities (nairaland tip). This was my motto.

Practice in less than ideal conditions; in noisy environments (don’t turn off the tv), without earphones and with distraction (nairaland tip). It will teach you to focus.

Before your test you should do at least one complete practice test: listening, reading and writing so you're used to doing it all at a stretch (ieltsliz tip).

If you don’t ask for extra sheet in writing test 2, you’ve probably written less than 250 words (ieltsJay tip)

I used 2B pencil for my writing test (it's easier to write with than HB). (nairaland tip). Carry plenty pencils so you don't have to sharpen in the hall. (my tip )

Download playlists on youtube so you can watch offline (to save data costs and network distraction)

So the interview took less than 30mins (CHC, Accra)

They just needed to clarify my work experience, ensure we still have enough funds and to be sure I'm ready to reenter the workforce, as I had taken time off work for a while to take care of family

I was asked for originals of evidence of salary payments (printed for over 5yrs) , payslips (gave them abt 22 months) , Bank stmts for last 6 months.

She asked questions about my work experince using each description for my NOC (2171), asked abt projects I handled and client, some otger fetails abt my salary, asked abt studies...went thru all docs and said she was satisfied

I was expecting her to apologise for taking me all the way to Accra but I didn't get that

She asked if I wanted my meds extended, I said NO(expires July)

She said I'd have to go back to send our passports, I gently raised them up to show her I had them....then she said "photos"? and I answered that I had everything....she was like wow

They had a system downtime, so she asked that I get schedule A for my spouse across to them and pick up our passports by 9am next morning, if it fit into my schedule...so we agreed

She thanked me for being organised and we engaged in small talk and said our goodbyes

I picked up passports next morning

The end.....


Note: I had "ready to finalise" on my noted since last year September but sadly, London did not treat some of our files until February.

Well, i believe it came at the appointed time...

Interview calls are not to reject an application...just to address concerns...

How's the French going? Chances are your tutor will have a west African accent or an anglicised accent. Meanwhile tef listening will be French or québécois accent... Start listening to French radio everyday even before you understand anything. It will help the language portion of your brain.

Visit RFI website they have daily resources (podcasts with transcripts, easy news articles) for learning French and an online station.
