Very good. As a medical student, I know the pain I went through to secure admission in this shithole economy. What about all unnecessary stress in medical school due to poor funding and equipment. You expect me to finish 6+x years, and start being paid #200, 000 when my counterpart are collecting over $10,000. Nonsense. When the doctor patient ratio gets to 1:50,000, Nigeria government will wake to their responsibility. 2 Likes |

I'm one leg out too. One exam left to pass and I'm out. Johesu should continue to pose as doctors, after all, they believe the doctors within the country are fake and only those of us that ply our trades out there are the real doctors. And also the data is very wrong. UK: About 2000 capacity for March and November exams not listing those that eventually went to Ghana due to space unavailability and not also forgetting those that went to UK to write. USA: About 500 leave every year and the number is reduced due to its multiple istages and the cost. This is without mentioning other European, Asians and African countries. Interestingly they Government don't know what they are loosing cos they trained most of us for free. I paid a yearly Tuition of 15,800 as a student in a Federal University due to government subsidising education. A responsible government would do all it takes to keep these ones but wetin concern them. Even the patients gan hate doctors cos according to them they a one proud set of people. The pay is terribly low especially if you work with a private hospital and if you're unlucky to be a state workers in a state like Kogi or Osun, you are good as working for free. My justification for wanting to travel out is this, I had always wanted to be a physician to my head of state and I realised that being in this country won't allow that. So it's better I jand, so when they come from one of their medical tourism I might just be lucky to be a member of the team. VIOLA! 12 Likes |

The data is incorrect. The GMC conducts plab exams twice yearly with a Centre capacity of 1500. That’s for Uk only. Nigerian doctors practice in Namibia! Things are that bad! Soon rich Nigerians will travel abroad to see us leaving poor Nigerians to suffer. I expect Nigerians to rise up in unison to demand better medical conditions but they won’t. Some ignorant people are even saying the 2000 is a lie! . My advice for any serious minded Nigerian doctor. Run for your dear life. You need info, materials etc, lemme know pls. 10 Likes |

Talk of a Nigerian dying in one of the hospitals now. You see people who know next to nothing about what has happened castigating Nigerian doctors. India was so bad, many Indian doctors came to naija to practice in the 80s. Things have to get completely destroyed before Nigerians realize. That’s how we are! I rememer during my interview and I was asked what I earn and I told them(450 pounds),they were shocked. They were like a doctor?! Let’s all leave then things will start getting better. 4 Likes |

Our budget for health is less than $2bn yearly. Scatch that, it is less than 1bn dollars yearly. And at the same time, we are paying 'people's hospital fees' as hospital bills (read very low fees). And at the same time, the amount we pay in taxes is not enough. The simple fact is, we have to increase funding for health. And we need money in trillions. IMO....something like N3 trillion annually. Maybe N5 trillion. 1 Like |

You fly abroad for medical treatment and pay the doctors thousands of dollars there, then you expect your own brothers in your country to sit back and recieve peanuts from people, mbanunu. It don't work that way. |

lulufaj: Lol...you remind me of the time when I told one of my relative who lives abroad how much I earn monthly (in euros for his understanding since he lives in a European country). First words out of his mouth...So, they are ripping you off?(He was not joking.). Thing is, we are not funded well at all. A budget less than N700bn, and you expect miracles.? Honestly, I laugh when I see people castigate we doctors. They don't know what is going on at all.(true, some of us are no good, but it can't be ALL of us!) 3 Likes |

otokx:2000 is even an understatement and underestimation. More than 60 from my own graduating set of 125 doctors have left. This is for my set alone o. Those who are resident in Nigeria are the married ones as well as the ones who have political connections ,have rich parents, have a hospital or lastly those who haven't amassed enough to write those expensive exams etc. 4 Likes |

Cuteamigo1: Bros, I wish it was an exxageration...but it aint. The UK is hemmorhaging doctors. Their british doctors are leaving the country and heading to Australia, and New Zealand and the US. Better work-life balance. In their place, they are recuriting Nigerian doctors by the tonne., among other developing countries. Then there is Saudi Arabia and UAE....docs are heading there for the money. As I speak, I know of several of my colleagues who have written PLAB and checked out. I have one or two of my classmantes in Saudi. Me? For now I am comitted to staying in Nigeria BUT...i have abroad at the back of my mind. 2 Likes |

[quote author=d33types post=66921814] Did you forget USMLE, AMC , mccee, and the other countries? 2000 is an understatement sef Help me tell those ignorant people o.The thing about Nigerians is that we all think we know everything and comment accordingly to evenwhat we know nothing about. In a sane society, the report is enough to attract serious talks and protests but since the abnormal is our new normal, we run for them, for our lives and that of our next generations. When they’re ill, they’d comelooking for us abroad. For the ones who can’t afford to come abroad to us. They keep saying 2000 is a lie. Simple bro! 1 Like |
