football of the 80s and 90s was more of skill and techniques while football of now is more of pace and power
Socrates, the Brazilian football wizard cum medical Doctor said "Beauty comes first. Victory is secondary. What matters is joy.”

That's why I loved Ronaldinho. He was a throbbing exhilarating dynamo of joy, passion and sublime skill rolled into one.

Today it is power, pace and passing that matters.

Once Messi retires, the door to the era of football as an art form will firmly be bolted.

Sadly but true add to that end product and discipline.

Football has become so strategic and planned that the expression of individual brilliance and skill has become stifled.

It's all about winning

I think it's Rohr's fault if that's the situation cos we must have penalty, free kick and corners takers even headers when it comes to corner both in our box or opponent box.

Do not blame Moses but Rohr for not do the needful.

Sir, no need to fret, 2-3 weeks in camp will sort out who takes free kicks and penalties.

Thank you Sir...this is partly because there so much money in football today...the more you win...the more money you have....so everything, training, branding, even stadia are expanded, players are overvalued[Pogba for example,Eva Banega is better than Pogba, but latter is costlier than former]...efficiency counts more....this idea i can say started with 1990 Argentina Team, they played badly, reached the final...and finally got huge money for such display...so the revolution started...JUST WIN AND GET THE MONEY...

Has any Nigerian ever scored from a free-kick in the world cup?

Has Nigeria generally scored from any form of set piece, be it corner or indirect free kick?

We have not even won any penalty.

Still scratching my head.

As long as we cannot get goals except from open plays we will continue to struggle in major competitions like the WC.
Chief why? Kalu Uche scored a free kick in 2010 while Yakubu converted a penalty in the same tournament.

To tell how bad this has become.... highlights back then was characterised by artistic moves flair and fun while goals made it even glorious but this days if no goals you better go check the score board for your beloved team result.
Time flies and the whole essence has also changed "business" before entertainment bills have to be paid... be like I will start watching cricket the gentle mans game.

The 23 players that are Most likely to make the final squad to the WC.

Believe it or not drawing this list is not as easy as it might seem.

Rohr can invite any 35 players from any where but baring any late withdrawals due to injuries, this is my predicted 23 players that will make the final list:

Goalkeepers
1. Francis Uzoho
2. Ikechukwu Ezenwa
3. Daniel Akpeyi

Defenders
4. William Troost-Ekong
5. Leon Balogun
6. Kenneth Omeruo
7. Chidozie Awaziem
8. Shehu Abdulahi
9. Tyrone Ebuehi
10. Brian Idowu
11. Elderson Echiejile

Midfielders
12. Wilfred Ndidi
13. Joel Obi
14. John Ogu
15. Mikel Obi
16. Oghenekaro Etebo
17. Ogenyi Onazi

Forwards
18. Alex Iwobi
19. Victor Moses
20. Moses Simon
21. Ahmed Musa
22. Kelechi Iheanacho
23. Odion Ighalo

Two players that have out-side chances but they will have to displace two players from the list above:

Dele Aiyenugba for Daniel Akpeyi (Dele likely to become first choice if Rohr does the needful)

Olaoluwa Aina for Elderson Echiejile (I feel for Aina but Echiejile's experience is a major advantage for him) Except we are going with 9 defenders but who will drop from the midfield or forwards. Besides, what are we doing with 3LBs in the WC?

So Chief Kog45 there you have it. You now understand why I would rather invite 25 and drop 2.

very realistic, but Joel may not make the worldcup team, maybe his slot will be giving to a more attacking player

But we have never scored a free-kick.

Quite emotional... Wish to have this kind of easy ride in this 2018 WC Tournament.

Moses is not bad with the free-kick too, when the free-kick is in the left then them is more suited for v.Moses and right will be for Simon and kelechi, also remember that both of them are not sure started compare to v.moses

Hmmmm.... dont be so quick to say so my friend. What i have realized is that the more things change, the more they stay the same. Moreover, this playing with pace more often than not, happens mostly in the EPL where its all pace and bullish physicality.

When the next break out kids comes on, we will be singing a different tune then.

‘He’s Overrated, Not Good Enough’ – Arsenal Fans Want Player Out Of Arsenal Due To Poor Performances
BY SUBAIR /
IN ARSENAL , EPL , TRANSFERS
Last week was a week filled with mixed feelings from the Gunners fans due to Wenger’s desire to leave the club by the end of this season.
The Frenchman made his decision to end his 22-year stay at the Emirates stadium known to the public on Friday.
Some fans were happy with the manager’s decision while many felt he should have waited until the end of his contract which will expire by the end of 2018-19 season.
After Wenger’s decision, fans believe the players must improve their performances for the rest of this current campaign so as to give the Frenchman a befitting sent-forth gift but that wasn’t the case as the Gunners performed below par against West Ham in today’s encounter.
Though the Gunners were 3-1 winners over the Hammers, their overall display was nothing close to a departing gift for Wenger.
Despite the team’s poor collective performance, there is one player who is wanted out of Arsenal as soon as a new manager takes over from Wenger.
The Gunners fans took to Twitter to call for Iwobi’s sale due to his recent poor performances especially in today’s game against David Moyes men.
One Arsenal fan Bailey called on the incoming manager to sell the Nigerian international, who according to him, has only contributed to Arsenal woe
Sam Kerr believes with Iwobi’s display against West Ham, the next manager will have no option but to loan him out to Burton Albion.
Bharat, just as other fans, wants iwobi to be sold out to another clubs due to his poor and awful display against the Hammers.
Patrick Viera, Luis Enrique have both been linked with the Gunners job.
