What could cause an Oxygen sensor to get bad? |
Re: Your Motor Guru Is Here! Ask Your Questions... by MotorGuru: 8:52am On Apr 23, 2018 |
Tammynator: Oxygen sensors usually have a lifespan of about 100,000 miles. But certain factors like the use of contaminated fuels, fuel with high sulphur content, engines that burn oil(due to bad piston rings or bad valve stem seals) can drastically cut the durability of an oxygen sensor. Is yours bad? and which particular one (upstream or downstream)? |

Re: Your Motor Guru Is Here! Ask Your Questions... by dkfrost: 10:45am On Apr 23, 2018 |
Good morning MotorGuru, I have 3 questions thus: 1. Generally speaking and then in terms of fuel consumption / economy, which would you recommend between the Toyota Muscle and Honda Evil Spirit? 2. What do you think about using the Honda evil spirit for uber, smart choice or nah? 3. What would you say are the best cars to be used for uber with a budget of 1.2m? Thanks! |
Re: Your Motor Guru Is Here! Ask Your Questions... by MotorGuru: 1:18pm On Apr 23, 2018 |
dkfrost: No.1 Question: The Camry is more fuel efficient. The engine and gearbox of the Evil spirit is better built , more powerful(the 4 cylinder in comparison) and in my opinion, more reliable. The AC of the evil spirit is more reliable( fixed displacement compressor), compared to the Variable displacement compressor which has a higher failure rate compared to that of the accord. The Honda has better handling characteristics and a better and more durable suspension setup than the Camry The Camry is quieter in terms of road noise than the Accord Evil spirit The Interior design is more appealing than the bland looking Camry Personal opinion: I would go for the Accord Evil Spirit. No.2 Question: I would not go for it . I think there are more fuel efficient and low maintenance rides that should give reasonable level of comfort if you are going to be business inclined with your vehicle. I would consider the following: 2007-009 Hyundai Elantra, 2003-2007 Toyota corrolla, 2007-10 Kia Rio, 2006-09 Honda civic( not too sure on this one) etc. No.3 Question: It would be quite difficult to buy a tokunbo vehicle above year 2002 that would meet your uber requirement with your budget. But it might be possible to purchase clean Nigerian used (up to 2005) with comprehensive and detailed inspection. You can contact Gazzuzz on this forum. 6 Likes |

Pls what is the difference between V4 and V6 engine in Toyota camry |
Re: Your Motor Guru Is Here! Ask Your Questions... by MotorGuru: 2:54pm On Apr 23, 2018 |
1sttruth: Actually the term 'V4' is a misnomer. It is actually an Inline- 4 cylinder engine used in the toyota camry, meaning it has 4 cylinders arranged in a straight line. this is the one of the most common engine configurations due to it's simplicity in design and manufacture. its firing order is usually 1-3-4-2 The v6 engine is actually a 6 cylinder engine that has two banks of 3 cylinders having a "v" configuration usually spaced at 60 degrees. this engine is usually more powerful ( from a naturally aspirated standpoint) and smother to run due to the increased number of cylinders. It is usally more favoured when more power is desired, but at the cost of a slightly higher fuel consumption. its firing order is usually 1-5-3-6-2-4 1st animation is 4 cylinder engine(inline 4) : 2nd picture is the v6 engine 5 Likes

Interesting thread and useful insights Please let me ask these questions 1. Why are people advised not to buy rusty cars? 2. Are there reliable facilities for servicing hybrid cars like Prius in Nigeria? 3. What is the effect of taking a hybrid or fully electric car through a flooded area? 4. How devastating is the effect of muddy terrain on cars generally? Thanks for your time and help |

Olatundebadmus: Hmm. In a Nigerian car space where the Hondas and Toyotas reign supreme, i would say i admire your courage In your request , i can only analyse based on brand and vehicle segment only, as the S60 alone comes with different engine variants to choose from( the most popular being the 2.4L 5 cyl non turbo and 2.5L 5 cyl turbo). That being said, These to cars satisfy different segments in the car market. The S60 (believe it or not )is aimed at competing with luxury brands such as BMW 3 series , Audi A4 and Mercedes C class. so in effect it is a luxury car, which means you can get a reasonable level of bells and whistles for a given trim. very balanced and you also feel safe(of course it is a Volvo ) Running costs is not too bad, although you may definitely need a specialist mechanic in the event of one or two issues that may arise( should not be a problem). Suspension, well not too solid(particularly front end in my opinion) If you are in lagos, parts is not a problem at all( parts plenty for market for that motor o!)Transmission and engine of this car is very solid (i personally love the turbo version). The Nissan versa actually started in 2006, and it is a much smaller car in my opinion( i think it is also known as the versa) and i dare say that they are not in the same league. The Nissan Versa is an economy car which may be competing with Toyota Yaris. so do not expect the same level of luxury as you would from an S60. It should be easier to maintain but my biggest gripe is its CVT transmission which may be unforgiving if abused(that is if you go for the automatic). So which is a better car? personally i dont like either, but i would select the Volvo in a heartbeat. For a First time car, i would go for a 2003-06 Corrolla (Considering the fact that it is Nigerain used). 1 Like |

I actually have been following the Volvo for a while now and I must say it seems to be a pretty nice car,i noticed that people whom use the s60 or s40 or even the v40 don't ever worry about it being stolen unlike the corrolla and most of the have fantastical tales to tell. I have kept a serious tab on deportivo and valarenz for a while now both men seem to tell a wonderful tale of the car. sir if I could afford your service would you be able to help me inspect a Volvo before I purchase. |

BetaThings: My brother, Cancer is to the human body as rust is to the steel structure of a car. Rust basically weakens the sheet steel metal used in the car's structural frame, and once it starts, it is very very difficult to get rid of, and the process is usually very expensive(totally stripping the vehicle , then sandblasting, then corrosion treatment etc). This is why vehicle inspection must include rust investigation. Hybrid vehicles are very complex vehicles electrically. And this requires adequate expertise during diagnostics and repair. There will definelty be but I would personally not recommend one Taking a hybrid vehicle through flooded areas? Now that's looking for trouble Mud usually have some some level of corrosive salts in them, and when they form and solidify at hidden locations( wheel arches for example), they start their bad work. So it is not good for the vehicle bodywork. 1 Like |

What are your thoughts on buying a Mercedes in Nigeria. Something from the W203 era, for example. Good buy? Maintenance costs? Security? Performance? |
