signature2012: You were/are right. Only reason I entertained PMs was because like me, some people do better with one on one conversation if sensitive information is involved. I remember when I was in college, I NEVER asked a professor questions in class. I preferred going to their office and if they had company, I'd simply say "I'll come back later". My visa interview in Lagos was crazy lol... seeing so many people around who could hear me speak gave me anxiety. That being said, it's a faceless forum, so it should be easier. I ignore most PMs when they involve things that can be asked here especially if the person did no research. You won't believe someone asked "Is admission for fall semester still open?, Which school is still admitting?". I laughed and ignored because to answer those questions, I'll need Google the same way they can use google. You make excellent points. This thread is so underrated, the information here is enough to get anyone at least half way through achieving their goals. Grad school over here (and I'm sure anywhere else) requires the ability to seek knowledge on your own and only ask for guidance when you encounter problems. People want to be spoonfed. 4 Likes |

I would have advise you let your source of funding be both your savings and your uncle's SOA. I learnt this bitter lesson when it was too late. If you are going for Post Grad studies and you have claimed to have worked In Nigeria, the VO wants to see that you are committing some funds to your dreams. Disclaimer; I am not a guru but this is an info straight from the heart. All the best. knash1: |

Sorry to say, there are alot of contradiction in your. Previous post and this one, you might need to explain where there is Olusegun26: This is your. previous post on another thread I'm Male, 26, Lagos embassy. Single. US First timer.. Before finger scanning, a lady I'm the embassy asked for my hardcopy passport... Ahah, I said I don't have beside, it is clearly written that only digital is acceptable.. She said 'yes I know' and later asked for my mailing address which I provided as she typed, then proceeded to my scanning section... O-- Olusegun26 V. O - - visa officer Followed by interview proper.. V. O: good morning O: Good morning. How was your weekend? V. O: good, and yours? O: nice. V. O: Where do you live? O: I told him the schegen state where I reside V. O: what are you doing there(making fun.. Ahah maybe because it's so cold )? O: I live, study and work there.. Plus I flashed him my residence permit (living permit not study permit). (He did not ask me why I came to Nigeria to apply.. Not!) V. O: good. This salary **** is in what currency? O: Euros V. O: Why are you going to the US? O: Annual vacation, will be staying in upper west of Manhattan, for 2weeks, visiting the science rooms... interested in seeing the phagocytic bacteria V. O: What do you do? O :told him my background (microbiology), explained my job functions. V. O: oh what are you studying? O: PhD student of neuroscience.(+ I flashed him my school card. V. O: what's your dissertation all about? O: Neural substrate of mood and emotions in Azheimer patients. V.O: hmm. Who pays for this trip. O: myself (I work). V. O : Where have you traveled to? O. Ahaha( I happy), Germany, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Malta, Sweden, Italy.. V. O: (Cuts in) all these in Schengen zone? O: yea, plus I've been to India. V. O: India, to do what? O:..i explained V. O : are you married? O: No,. After I have completed my doctoral program. V. O: I will approve your visa.... O: many thanks. Mind you, my accent was American (I've worked with them and have many as friends.. That's doesn't matter anyways but gives me load of confidence since we can both hear ourselves with no excuse me, ehn ehn, come again ).. 1. Ignore those th*gs around.. Get the trio ready.. DS160 confirmation page, gtbank receipt and appointment confirmation. 2. I think it's more of academic, convince these guys and look them straight in their eyes... (dem no carry firewood ma). 3. Say wetin de your ds160 and be mentally prepared without contradicting yourself. 4. Be calm in spite of noise, side talks, be still and calm and concentrate.. Don't be drifted. Special thanks to Seyewest.. Your bottle of wine awaits you, kindly claim your price. I asked questions Here because I was confused while filling the form, he took his time to explain. Let me chip this in... Fill your form yourself. First timer, Don't worry if you made mistakes while filling your form prior to your appointment, refill and refill until you perfect it because your fingerprints sealed the last ds160 attached to your appointment permanently. Again, fear not(like me, I was scared to refill and refill).. I'll share my poe experience next week. Above all, pray to God, be shrewd and avoid legible misrepresentation which might cost you instantly. I wish you all the best. 3 Likes |

orimahspence: Boom roasted(in Bucky Robert's voice - my C++ role model)!!! You can check out his videos on YouTube to have a grasp of what I'm talking about.. Hey Bro/Sylph, unfortunately i cannot help your ignorance. I had a background in microbiology, practised even before i left Nigeria. I took an engineering program (master's)... I can code - name it: C++, Js(react, angular) etc (started when i was in Nigeria when the prospect was blurry) and i am even a tutor.. I grab the new opportunities as they come.. When i applied last year i was working as a microbiologist... Got better offer and went for it.. I'm always moving (seeking knowledge, experience and better mõney lol).. Do overtime; second work etc.. This might confused you, but sorry, outside of Nigeria, you can always improve yourself and become anything you want(if you like you could build a career in.. - - striper.. they earn pretty money here too.. Not recommended!) .. I can sign you up for my C++, JS, etc.webex class (no be free o), just €38/hour (or equivalent amount in your currency. As per you na my person, i go comot €8 for you To deflate your bubbles, close to my neighborhood, they offer free python classes(where you'll be served free pizzas and even beer.. Lo..i know this will be a gem opportunity in Nigeria) and free summer internships (prove yourself and you'll be employed and trained by companies including Nortal, BBVA etc.) As for the phd, I'm sorry bro, i make cool cash atm, i don't wanna continue with it..I changed my mind!! That simple! It is less of computing and of course, i don't see myself taking a faculty appointment in the future.. 5 years? You really wan de settle for net of €800-€2k/month? Na cool cash though. (other internal factors contributed too..sorry, I cannot share it here). In sum, white man no de think like black man, so he could understand..I would think in a similar way hitherto, what the impression of changing jobs could bring, I wrote the experts and they cleared my doubts. Many told me the same things.. (No worries, you're good) Lest i forget, i documented my micro job in my DS160.. So no info lost... Hope that clarified your doubts.. 2 Likes |

BenNash: The question is why did you decide to back out now in your final year? Even if you don't like the course try and finish it up.. No knowledge is a waste. There are so many things to put into considrstion before taking such decisions. Think about the time you have spent and all the money you have also spent from 100 level. Anyway, i think his/she knows what's best for him. |
