he is an ignoramus for getting below par service.God is watching you in 3D. i dont know what gives you the right to feel you can charge at a premium not do a good job and still insist the guy not complain. I am not surprised though, there was a thread on here where it was Gazzuzz that reported you. I dont know why delivering quality service is a problem for us in Nigeria. cardoctor: 3 Likes |

No matter the level of provocation - it is wrong to put out the name of a client without his expressly waiving his right to privacy. In Nigeria, personally identifiable information (PII) is joked with, overseas it is not. A shop can get into bankruptcy if this were taken up. I have seen technicians make mistakes...largely because they failed to research carefully from both open/free sources and closed/paid sources - call that doing your homework - in one case, I have called it out, in other case, I decided to let sleeping dogs lie. One of the greatest mistakes of Nigerian technicians is failure to pay for information that is germane to fixing car problems, this is followed by unwillingness to buy the proper tools and unwillingness to upgrade their knowledge...because cars have changed a whole lot, continue to change a lot, and even what one knows about a car can change mid-season due to software upgrades to the same car to fix a problem post-manufacture - the only way to stay on top of this game is information and not all of it is freely accessible! I have seen a technician/mechanic make a mistake that would have been avoided if he realized that there is only so little information in the open and far more information that is closed, and that the companies (read that to mean manufacturers) also spend a lot of money to produce this information and so expect to recoup that money from the users (technicians/mechanics/DIYers) and that access to that information would make him a better technician/mechanic. Those in the trade know that what is in the open internet is but a small fraction of what can be found behind paywalls. I have seen users scout the entire internet for repair information that can only be found behind paywalls and then come to nairaland to ask for help...expecting information others paid or are paying to access to handed over for free? Are Nigerians willing to pay for technicians willing to make that investment in information and tools? Is a technician or mechanic willing to address such a market only? To what extent should the client be taught or schooled in what the technician wants to do to his vehicle? This thread also bring to the fore the need to be able to tell a client in very clear terms not techspeak - this is wrong with your car, and this is how we are going to fix it. It is a reminder to technicians/mechanics - you are being watched, and your methods and approaches could be subject to peer review - will they hold up? Should a prospective client depend on the name and reputation of his technician and assume rightly or wrongly that if he or she has a name he can do no wrong? That said, I think it is unethical to attack a technician/mechanic but it may be ethical in the interest of learning and discourse to show how his methods failed and why his methods failed and why your approach is better. The problem though is here we see the hands of Esau but the voice of Jacob, who is better situated to explain how one method is better than the other, the technician or his client? This is also an opportunity for the de-marketed technician/mechanic to prove his mettle because: "Everybody in business shares one universal problem: to succeed you have to persuade others to support your vision, dream or cause." - Peter Guber These are some of the questions/issues raised by this thread. 12 Likes |

By the way gents here is how it's supposed to be done. 1) Look at the estimate and look at the final total, see how close they are? 2) Any deviation from the estimate requires authorization from the owner. It's a law. 3) You can request your old parts back unless it's used as a core return. If you're not doing business like this then I have no respect for you. I'll charge a non-refundable troubleshooting fee that MAY be applied to the final bill. If you decide to go and do the work yourself or somewhere else then no bad feelings. I think this is one of the causes of bad belle that we see. If I tell you that starter is bad and I changed it and starter is not bad then I owe you a full refund for the starter. No questions asked. The only time for ambiguity is stuff like opening up an engine and then finding that cylinder bores are worn out of spec. Fixing a modern car shouldn't be trial and error and most definitely not on the customer's dime. #LazyNigerianYouths can make a killing in any industry if they put customer service first and foremost. 6 Likes

I will list the various services you perform and the amount I paid...I have an Excel sheet containing all records...Half of which I didn't collect the receipt...I only collected receipts from you for major transactions. EgunMogaji: We need people like you back home. They fail to understand that it's not perfection of repairs that counts at times but the impeccable customer service. This is also the reason why some Nigerians do not engage in preventive maintenance. Vehicle will be ok before maintenance but after serious issues will surface. 6 Likes |

fishing: I'll be home soon. My site is up at TobiMotors.Com though my offerings are limited by design until I am in Nigeria full time. It's a different concept. 1) If I feel that I can't satisfy the customer then I won't take the job. 2) Customer service is job number one. 3) It will not be cheap but there are Nigerians that will value good customer service and "Fix It Once" Repairs. Buhari/Atiku/Obasanjo can't fix Nigeria, they are just one person. It is the cumulative effort of average Nigerians that will turn the tide. It may not be in my lifetime but it will happen. I would never in a million years post the name of a client online. Even if I wanted to my fingers won't agree 12 Likes |

mayor2013: You simply need to post the receipt without my name. From the details I should know it is legit. If I deny it, you might be justified by members of the forum to reveal the full details. It's unfortunate that you manage a business with your current mentality and attitude..I also have some copies of your receipts. I just drove to Anambra state today and should be back next week. EgunMogaji:Easier said than done. A customer that I once had, bought a Range Rover Sport for 8.8m. I went with him for the inspection and spent 3 hours in V.I for 10k. I was glad to have escaped from him but he bought the car andhe will bring oil and will want me to charge 8k for labour. He will say that is all he has. Ok customer service but when you see how he controls everyone during the service, I begged him to please go to where he can give orders. For this matter, it is difficult to decipher the damages made to the car by previous users. Op, since your car is in order, leave matter and enjoy your ride. Nor be only one man dey raise pikin for Africa. If Mayor did not go through those processes, the right outcome would not have been achieved. Because he did not achieve the final result does not mean that he did nothing. The excessive fuel consumption has stopped and you should also give him that credit. All that you claimed was done by the 17 yr experienced rewire was to go and get the right alternator. Our parts market that is dependent on refurbished parts, is that one a determining factor? Lets close the matter and move on. That was how I was once accused of scamming a guy of 65k in his Hyundai SUV. Since then... I like taking a long walk from such issues. 5 Likes |

sooperrescue: Bro! You are a man of peace. Nice advise you provided... I never had excessive fuel consumption. Although took it to Mayor for tune up, didn't notice any changes. Not saying that to spite him. That's why I didn't raise this issue in the review. I discovered it was my driving habit that was behind it (Short distance driving). Honmusa improved my fuel Economy with the EGR fix and I also serviced the fuel system recently. The result? I drove from Lagos to Anambra state today (About 450 to 500Km) half tank consumed. Used full AC mostly throughout the Journey. Car performed really well...Nice fuel economy... 1 Like |
