@Egunmogaji Sir.God bless you for this unbiased responses.

It is how you are dressed you will be addressed.

People go to Elizade,Globe motors and Auto Germaine and do not even go near the service bay talk less of bossing them around.

Anyone who collects 10k to go check a vehicle and complains is just funny. The man never did put a gun or force any one to accompany him.

@ Sooperescue Your collecting the 10k simply means you agreed with all the conditions and inconveniences that will come with this service.

If you didn't negotiate with him on any fee and just followed him with the expectations that he will use his initiative to compensate you then you are lucky he paid you 10k.

If I were in his shoes I All just buy you only Lunch because it's clear the service was not a professional one

Thanks, it's a process.

Tentatively, my fee for automobile check is N15,000 for vehicles that is brought into the workshop, for outside work it is N25,000 within Ibadan. Outside inspection for N10K is slave labor. In Lagos, it's suicidal slave labor.

It's not for Micra drivers (no offense meant, I own Micras too) or bargain hunters (I am one of them). It is for serious professionals and Women that want to be taken seriously.

I'll rather have my guys sit and watch YouTube videos and/or rebuild power units (why we don't rebuild engines confuses me) than to take a job grudgingly and complain later.

Regarding setting expectation. This happens at my site all the time. "Ema worry Sir, ma bayin se Sir". Me, not a chance. You are going to tell me what you're doing and how much you'll charge. No favors, that's when ish starts grin

We don't rebuild engines because

1. We can remove and replace the current engine in a day, maximum 2 days. You cannot rebuild an engine in that time. We want fast money, not money that takes too much time to make

2. We do not want liability....pass on the liability if the tokunbo engine fails to the part seller...but we can claim the workmanship a second time to install yet another engine if the previous tokunbo was not fit for purpose

3. The parts to rebuild the engine have to be sourced from overseas, it will take time and our clients are not willing to wait or we have schooled them to believe that tokunbo engines are just as good if not better

4. Doing so is both a science and an art, not everyone is a master at both, and we don't feel the need to specialize or become master engine rebuilders, we don't believe that is where the money in this business lies and what is more, we have not invested in the education to make us great at this task

5. It is a messy job, we would rather not be bothered

6. We do not have the right tools for the job and because it is not a profit center we do not want to invest in the tools for such jobs

7. It is an exacting job that is unforgiving of mistakes, most of us are not that methodical and painstaking, we would suck at it, and we know it and so we had better not even try

8. We believe the cost of getting most engines tokunbo is less than the cost of workmanship involved in tearing apart and giving the in-place engines a new lease of life

9. our mates who do, do that without consulting documentation, and as a result such engines are not rebuilt to specification, and when they fail, we use those stories as warning to our clients that we don't want to do the same to your engine (but without the background that the job was not done properly and so it was bound to fail anywhere whereas were it done properly, it would be as good as a new engine)

10. We don't want to use the client's engine to do a test run of our capabilities or the lack of it.

You guys are right. He came through a big client of mine and wanted me to go for inspection with him. I told him that I dont have the time for such. He pleaded and I turned off my phone. Two days later he called asking for sooperrescue. He realised that I was the same guy that was rude to him and knew that I always go for my radio program every tuesday, so he asked for a 30mins inspection before my radio program and we agreed for 20k. I got to VI and spent hours waiting for battery, fuel and even engine oil before I had to scan and told him to go ahead with the purchase. He asked for my acct details and I gave it to him with the trust that he is a man of means and a friend to my client who is a director in a bank. He sent me 10klater in the evening telling me that I did not do much. On the day I drove him away, he told me that He is a retired Airforce officer and that he can do something to my business. I closed his bonnet and told him that the Airforce belongs to Nigeria and not to him, and that even in the next life, he can do nothing. Na so he run comot go tell his friend who now asked me what transpired between us. There are days we meet such people and we thank God for bringing them to us to make us strong.
Op, please buy bobozi come for me. I need to celebrate the boost wey you carry go village. Hope Customs nor misbehave on the road?

Bro! You are a man of peace. Nice advise you provided... I never had excessive fuel consumption. Although took it to Mayor for tune up, didn't notice any changes. Not saying that to spite him. That's why I didn't raise this issue in the review. I discovered it was my driving habit that was behind it (Short distance driving). Honmusa improved my fuel Economy with the EGR fix and I also serviced the fuel system recently. The result? I drove from Lagos to Anambra state today (About 450 to 500Km) half tank consumed. Used full AC mostly throughout the Journey. Car performed really well...Nice fuel economy...

Woa.. That's awesome fuel economy..

Some good talkers can convince you and still be unable to rectify the problem(s).

I really don't know who to blame here. One thing for sure, once your vehicle is dismantled, you will be at the mercy of the mechanic.

A little bit more speech about customer service and I'll get off my soap box grin

Look, no one can say that issues will never arise. We're humans, of course ish will happen.

The defining moment for a good company is how they respond in those times of ish.

There's something called crisis management and it's not only for big companies like Apple, Nissan GM, etc this is one of the reasons that some employees that flee those companies go ahead and form spectacular startups. The training and learnings that they've had propels them forward. Of course you do have to have a good product.

Nigerians like to have all for nothing. If you open up a vehicle and give a list of things to be changed but the customer says that he will manage some as they are, will you force the change? Some will ask you to fix and abandon the vehicle at your workshop for weeks. Believe me, some folks buy cars they cannot maintain in Nigeria and will take out the frustration on you.

Person go hold you for shirt o! The ones who think they are connected will come with MOPOL and cause wahala.

Typically half of a luggage is filled with gifts for my DPO friend and also “Akogun”.

I’m cultivating another friendship with an Army guy that I met at MMA.

There’s a method to my madness wink

But again shops needs to set up expectations and not all jobs should be taken even if the bays are empty.

Serious question.

Apart from the hydraulic suspension on those vehicles that still maintain them, what makes a Range inspection any different?

I think a 60 point inspection is same on all 2 axle vehicles.

Are the rear brakes inboard or outboard?
