On your quote with some other member you could aswell highlight that of this govt.

BUHARI;
Met $38bn
As at current - $47bn with Euro bonds/Treasury bills etc and a debt of $27bn (in just 3 years)

This is the main reason Nigerians fail exams, we are asking one question on a subject matter and you are presenting another subject matter as response.

The question is did Dr Okonjo-Iweala who functioned as finance minister and ministers of the economy leave Nigeria poorer than she met it, as alleged by Donald Duke? Instead of answering with facts and figures, you were talking about GDP and then Buhari's debt.

If you want to discuss nigeria's GDP and Nigeria's debt profile over the years, open appreciate threads.

The most important is why he didn't want her to take the job? Both 'respected' Nigerians agree that they were friends. She claimed that he didn't want Jonathan to succeed. He insinuated that it was because he didn't want her to be further humiliated after her first time out didn't end well.

My Take: Ngozi wanted the job. Duke didn't like Jonathan. The tug was between two business interests; Peterside and Jonathan, both representing different private business interests. At the end of her tenure, Ngozi attributed her underperformance to lack of political will. Forces were too strong, obviously

Interestingly, she didn't want the job. She said only her parents wanted her to take the job, her father mostly. She turned down the offer twice (when the Stanbic IBTC chairman called her and when GEJ called her), she only took it up after weighing her options. GEJ effectively made her a prime minister--coordinating the economy without having to interface with multiple ministers first or even the VP.

The main issue was GEJ had way too many enemies than any president in recent memory had. Right from the day he became the VP. He practically had to chase one of the most powerful of them Ibori from Oghara and buried his political career. The SS governors' class of 1999-2007 were to GEJ what Buhari/el-Rufia and co were to Yar'Adua. People from your own region who were sick to their stomach someone they thought was beneath them got ahead of them and thus vowed to truncate their tenures by all means. OBJ had sth like that from the SW hierarchy.

I'd vote Duke because I'm not exactly surprised by this revelation. We've always known in the SS that GEJ had it rough, which is why GEJ cleared all the polling units of the specific areas where each of these ex-governors came from in 2015. Even Oghara where Ibori hailed from.

Duke's penance is that it wouldn't be SS turn to produce a President again until he is in his 70s. At what time he wouldn't be able to run for office.

I am yet to see where my quote above blamed IMF for anything.

What about the conditions attached to such loans?

Not being an anointed candidate of USA has nothing to do with her policies in Nigeria.

Kindly send me the link on EU-ECOWAS EPA and the role NOI played. I need to keep myself informed.

LordAdam16:

Both elements can align. All the success storiethrs in Asia/South America bar China and Vietnam rode on the back of the IMF. IMF has provided us more low-interest loans than any other nation in Africa. What did we use them for? It's easy to blame IMF when the leadership and political structure is abysmal.

The GIMPIS, IPPIS, TSA et cetera were all set up with priceless assistance from the World Bank and IMF both in the planning in her first stint, and going live in the second stint.

And if her interests were only aligned with the IMF, she'd have signed off on the EU-ECOWAS EPA deal. She lost the World Bank President election because she was not the anointed candidate of the US. Read and be informed.

Someone even made an I'll informed reference to his time as governor of Cross River...Deductive reasoning is lost on so many youths.

What conditions are you talking about?

You can do research you know? The conditions are exactly the same conditions they give 100+ countries on the globe. Most of those countries are making giant strides. If we can't do same, it's all our fault.

Yes, it has all to do with her policies in Nigeria because the US/West controls the IMF, and if she was completely in their pocket, she'd tilt the discussion about the EPA in the EU's favor with some fancy argument. In the world of economics, even s**t can be made to look like an apple.

There's not one link for that. There are several. Here's a good place to start https://www.ictsd.org/bridges-news/bridges-africa/news/nigeria-clarifies-reasons-for-not-endorsing-eu-ecowas-epa

Donald Duke should be ashamed of himself. his self righteouness is getting to his head. I have always known that he was never in support of GEJ as president. let him go and blame OBJ that facilitated him. One thing I know is that Donald Duke will never be president of Nigeria nemese will cathc up with him and laa others who wished and worked for the downfall of GEJ God pass them.

Not Nigerians buddie but when you debate Igbos that’s what you get. They claim others are deceitful n all but they are the greatest deceit ever.

They believe Buhari is a failure but will never admit Iweala failed the country when Nigeria was earning over $100 per barrel of crude yet she could not save a dime. The Buhari they called failure as save over $10 billion with the same crude selling below $50.

Obasanjo did not fire Okonjo-Iweala. He redeployed her to the external affairs ministry and she resigned. This was seen as an attempt to get her or of the way so that the PDP could ransack the treasury ahead of the 2003 elections.

I see Donald Duke response as a sincere reply and not to downgrade NOI. His statement about the state of the economy after departure of the NOI as minister under the clueless administration was a confirmation of what Ngozi Iweala herself has testified. She herself narrated the limping nature of the economy of the country after the administration was dethrone by reasonable minds of Nigeria. She revealed how the hope of Nigeria economy has become a will-o'-the wisp under the past administration. So if anyone is now attacking Mr. Duke base on his response as relation to the state of Nigeria economy after the departure of the clueless administration, it mean such person is myopic.

So who was the minister of finance during Yaradua's regime? He/she should be given an award if it is the duty of Finance minister to counter the president when he gives an order on spending. Duke is doing window dressing

This is where you are wrong.

President Olusegun obasanjo as President and National leader of the PDP set up a 12 man panel of the most politically neutral fellows alive- some of whom are Ex-generals - and gave them PDP membership forms. The purpose of this committee was to nominate a candidate that's credible for the PDP to present for presidency and gave them access to Security files from the EFCC, DSS and NSA.

The Committee came up with 2 names, Yaradua for President and Donald Duke for Vice-President.

Yaradua humbly accepted while Donald Duke vehemently refused. Why!?

His said he considered the committee/Obasanjo's actions as dictatorial in nature, since his name didnt come as a result of a democratic process and was convinced that to accept such automatically made him Obasanjo's designated puppet.

Also Duke eyes was set only for president alone and nothing else, hence he saw this committee's work as a blockade and actually tried to resist it - didnt work out, not when Obasanjo is the Head Nigga in Charge.

If he knew Yaradua wasnt going to make it, trust me Donald being the schemer that he is would have accepted the panel's offer. Those who know him well, know he regrets his refusal day and night.

It was after Duke Refused that Jonathan was invited and he accepted, with hot bone-face pressure from Obasanjo himself.

This was why Obasanjo was offended when Jonathan replied his open letter to him with boldness because as a Governor, after the exit of alameseigha, when men like Obasanjo dey talk, na ground Jonathan dey look.....

Jonathan was recommended by the committee on the basis of his conduct during his boss travail when he was still deputy governor, not once did he challenge Alameseigha, nor try to acquire political capital from Alameseigha's demise/corruption/political scandal.

Infact, the same way he withdrew himself during Yaradua dark days was the same way he did during Alameseigha's scandal.

Plus he still put a good performance as governor after Alameseigha's tenure, no blemish, no scandals...

Of course she was an abysmal failure. The so called coordinating Minister of the economy just watched as her colleagues looted the country dry. An overrated imperialist stooge. That’s what she is.
Now her tribesmen are coming as usual to insult the man for saying what we all know is true. She was a failure and that’s why OBJ sacked her.
