Mamatukwas:If you read my previous posts on this thread or the other one, we have discussed it in detail. The big point is you can't compete with oyinbos in areas where they have core skills... That's why the roles like accounting, customer services even now BAs are tough to break into. You have to go for technical stuff in IT. You see why so many foreign doctors, Asian programmers etc oyinbos won't compete much in those areas. And you will make your mullah. Aphrodite007: That's the way to go... Whilst doing that you can choose an area you want to specialise and skill up. When the time is right you will drop this one. If you know how how much the end client is paying them for that £90 ehhn. That's why we call them pimps. Good luck 3 Likes |

Aphrodite007: Thank you for this write up and tips, job search can be really frustrating and tiring with constant CV amendment and cover letter formulation. I see jobs practically stating alll what I am experienced in handling, even following recruiters on LinkedIn and all, still nothing yet. Also, having a driving license has been hindering sort of as one company said most of the jobs I would be suited for is based on site, so hopefully I get something soon. Thanks again for d encouragement. All d best at ur new job 2 Likes |

fatima04: My dear, it’s over frustrating o! , I started thinking something was wrong with me, Nigeria that is hard, I got a job in less than 3 months, then UK that is meant to be easier seemed to be difficult. I was just grateful to God that at least I had a platform that even showed jobs, unlike Nigeria. Please call them up. You will be surprised at how receptive they will be. Just call, introduce yourself and ask if you can speak to HR about vacancies (if you’re calling the company) but if you’re calling an agency, tell them that you would like to discuss a job you saw online, then mention it. They will personally give you their email for you to mail your CV, after which you can keep calling to find out what’s up. If they turn you down, ask them why (politely), that you need the info to improve your CV. As far as you’re speaking to them on the phone, they will most likely tell you why you were refused. Please just call them iye. That’s what helped me. Best of luck with your job search. 16 Likes 4 Shares |

wonlasewonimi: True. Having a skill that they possess can make it difficult for one to break into the same occupation, but since sponsorship isn’t needed, working in such roles is possible, it will just take time. I’m into the tech side of BA (SCRUM software projects) which a lot of them don’t do, as they are more of finance BAs. So I still have leverage. I just searched for a month and gave up, lol, then jumped at this opportunity I have to keep me going till my dream job comes. Thanks for the support. |

Aphrodite007: Theory test is easy...do it before you start practicals. I hate failing, although these days its become a normal thing, when you fail, you try again and don't give up, That said, I will advice to prepare for your theory with youtube videos and download the Paid DVLA theory test app and practice with it. Also buy the Highway code....You don't have to do this, but, generally the rules are actually there for your own safety, because if you jam somebody and they die, you will go to prison, so, you will be for the better with this. I also advice you get a good driving school, the driving is for your own safety, don't see it as a waste of money, but as a game you have to pass...When you fail, you try again until you pass it. At the end of the day, you will be a safe and better driver for it and avoid accidents 5 Likes 2 Shares |

Aphrodite007: I see a lot of roles for scrum master on jobserve. The secret is never to relent. It just takes one opportunity to have your big break. Right now, everyone follow agile development processes, your skill set will always be in demand. When you have the time and money, go get your certified scrum master. 2 Likes |

We are about an hour outside Glasgow in the Ayrshire/Kilmarnock/Irvine/Troon Zone. Bingo! I could not have said it better. I have posted the same thing in other similar threads. Bottom line - You have to do what most of the others shy away from. That is where the demand is. IT (software development), engineering, Nursing, Doctor, etc. Most of those finance, accounting, etc fields are difficult to break into. Same thing here in the US. Because even the US/UK citizens with degrees from good schools have a hard time breaking in. wonlasewonimi: 2 Likes |

Bossman: Seriously if I'm not in my current line if work. I would have learnt how to program. Python, json (the language of aws), ios, java,.net, Ruby, perl, c# etc. Resources are plentiful on the Internet to learn. No. our youths are watching big brother. Smh Asians don't struggle for work here at all... And everywhere I have worked, they ship them in on some strange visa that people don't know about. Our people will face the same area, wanting to work in administration jobs. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Yes, all the resources one needs are online. Veteran developer here 19+ years doing Java. The landscape is constantly changing, so one needs to keep learning. I do not mind it though. Probably one of the best decisions I ever made was to start learning Java the moment heard about it. wonlasewonimi: |
