Banks need to ban the use buying airtime from their system for this to work
Re: "Stop Buying Airtime From Banks" - Saleh Shehu Ashaka Begs Nigerians by sexdoll: 9:54am On Apr 26, 2018
It's true.

But...

Sadly, it is what it is.

We live in a fast world.

Thus, the faster the better... plus convenience too.

So I guess, the airtime street vendors should just try and change business if they cannot cope because by bank mobile app is still doing the job and serving me well.

What about convenience, buying through banks or VTU offers me convenience cos I don't need to hit the road every time I want my phone recharged.

Every business survives through innovation and adaption to changing times but not self pity.
You can have a customer and every time you need calling unites he /she can recharge your line and which ever way soothes you you can pay they'll understand

Instant payment and delivery via card and more. I am a heavy data user and spend 1000s monthly on card and data. Got to know them here for like 4 yrs a go when they used to advertise , since then never bought card elsewhere except road vendors. You can go thru them www.clubkonnect.com/
God bless you sir

One thing i hate some Nairalanders for is been too harsh / insultative, often on matters that require simplicity.

What the Journalist is trying to say is that, if you are opportuned or have an option of buying online/via sms or patronising the physical card vendor, go for the vendor to help empower them economically. This decision, ofcourse makes sense. #iStandWithTheJournalist #NoToNairalandTroubleMakers #EmpowerTheYouths

True talk,Banks are already exploiting us,they progranme most ATM not to pay more than 10k at once so that they swindle us of more #62 per 10k when u withdraw.Monthly ATM card maintainance charge even when u didn't use the card for months.

The journalist is yapping nonsense.

Banks add value by allowing you to make convenient purchases.

The hawkers and retailers are unnecessary middlemen who add costs to the process. Why should one deliberately increase expenses to help imaginary hawkers?

Such socialist, populist thinking has been one of the economic problems bedeviling third world countries.

I can see you in your sci fi world undecided

Except you are not in Nigeria. Let's face reality and be truthful to ourselves for once. 3/4 of people in this country are living in abject poverty.

If you come out of your mansion, you have a gateman, he has a family he sends money to,he sells card, patronize him. Thank you.

and if you know the profit margin those who sell recharge card get you will pity them and just continue buying, who loves to do a business of #1000 and gain #30,its only the teleco that the business pay and not those selling the recharge card

How much do you think banks make per recharge? The commission is less than 10 naira for every 1000 naira recharge. Recharge card is a volume based business. You want to be making a 20% margin on airtime? Well, that's why no one who is literate and has money in his bank account would buy from you. If artisanal businesses can't make profits selling airtime, let them stop the business. If the profit margin is low, you find another business. Like farming or something.

They can farm. farming is a nice business. Selling recharge card has never been profitable for small businesses. To make 50,000 profit in a month, you have to sell 500,000 naira worth of airtime. Who does that type of business?

So if they all go to farm, who will man the gate for our fast lane brothers that still use manual gates

This is a non-issue.

The free market is almost always efficient at distributing wealth and resources.

If a lot of people go to farms and gatemen are now scarce, the salaries of gate men would increase and people would choose to be gate men.
