Good morning to all the gurus in the house. I will be very grateful if anyone that bank with Stanbic bank (and into Treasury bills), can confirm if customers are allowed to state their preferred bidding rates in the primary market, for an amount that is less than 50M naira. One of the account officers in Stanbic apparently said the bank allows their customers to state their bidding rates regardless of the amount. If that is truly the case, can members please advice on rates to bid; for the 91, 182 and 364 days tenors next week. Many thanks. |

I have been following this thread randomly for years now, due to capital was not able to invest. I want to appreciate the moderators for making T-bills as simple as ABC. I started reading from the first page this month and before i got to the 50th page, i understood T-bills to a great extent. i was able to buy through GTB @12% for 91 days earlier this month, now that the rates are down, i wished i had locked up for a longer tenor. Thanks so much for all the contributions and those who had raised questions. I really appreciate. 4 Likes |

dejiotus: Please don't mind the officer. It's actually in their form that you may dictate your own rate and it's a ploy to prevent you from buying Treasury Bills and keep your money in their Savings or Fixed deposit as they will come to tell you after the bidding that your bid was rejected because it was less than N50m. He is probably your account officer or in collusion with him to avoid his deposit target from being depleted. At any rate you may use yours as a test case and bid 11.8% for 364days tenor; 11.5% for 182daya tenor & 10.8% for 91days tenor. But be sure to get back to us after the results of your bids. 1 Like |

Those days will soonest, be here again.......................................The present oil price and production level cannot be sustainable for a long time. When inflows from crude sales dovetail, the spiral effect will be massive borrowing to fund subsequent budgets. The General election is next year, dollars will be very scarce as a result of massive mop up by politicians to do the "needful". When oil revenue dovetail, our foreign debt repayments become an issue. So, that will impact negatively on our credit rating and our ability to continue to borrow in foreign currencies. The quickest way then to fund the system will be to look inward....borrow locally(TB) or quantitative easy. Just my humble thought spenca: |

ozymes: Correction please. Dollar drops during election cos the market is flooded with election/campaign cash. Naira gains pre-election campaigns and spending. |

Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by zamirikpo(m): 2:32am On Apr 28, 2018 |
ozymes: Seconded. In fact the dollar spike in 2015 was fuelled by the massive hoarding of hard currency by polithiefians, caused by the uncertainty of a new govt. Remember how many homes Dss raided and recovered hard currency... |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by BBFE: 4:41am On Apr 28, 2018 |
zamirikpo: What are you seconding? Someone just puts up some cut and nail self serving analysis to deny the reality on ground and you are seconding him? The dollar rally against the naira was purely an oil price story and nothing more. The hoarding and trading shenanigans that followed were off of that event. Oil closed below 40 dollars in 2015 and that was the reason why your naira lost ground, speculators were emboldened by this fact and they wrecked the naira. If you expect the naira to plunge, the play shouldn't be locking in high rates but to buy dollars. In his self serving analysis up there, he said oil prices are not sustainable without noting what America would do on May 12. That aside, how much is our fx debt? What is our external reserve? Is our demand for fx going to increase or decrease? Are foreigners going to exit before elections or not? When you put everything together, the odds are definitely in favour of a loosely stable naira. 3 Likes |

@BBFE.How do you mean "cut and nail self serving analysis" was that necessary? one would have expected a professional and civil approach to this and not arrogance and insults This is unacceptable and abusive! All needed to do was just to present your analysis. I even ended by submission with "just my humble thought" which means i recognized the fact that analysis are oftentime subjective. So why the venom? BBFE: 1 Like |

Happy Weekend My treasury bill got matured earlier this month and since then, First Bank has refused to give back my investment. I've already contacted Firstcontact and their response is that they are investigating on the issue. But now everything seems to be like fraud. To the experienced folks here, what legal actions can i take to recover my money? Unfortunately for me, I'm far away from the bank the TB was done. Nevertheless, I'll be storming any of their branch on Monday In addendum, i got a call from a Lady this week claiming to be from First Bank. She only asked whether i took any loan and my response was negative. . |

Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Nobody: 10:47am On Apr 28, 2018 |
Olarewajub: I trade with first bank, if primary, then it's roll over where you would have gotten the interest except you reinvested the interest. If secondary, they always pay me before or about 10am. I get a mail/text the following day informing me of the maturity. |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Olarewajub: 10:56am On Apr 28, 2018 |
ozymes: The transaction was initiated through a treasury officer. Same officer that processed all my treasury bill application last year. I do not possess the certificate at the moment but have already requested for it. The bank is in full acknowledgement of the TB investment.

Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by ahiboilandgas: 11:39am On Apr 28, 2018 |
Olarewajub:don't have high bp they have reinvested it both principal and interest...they sent u a mail noting maturity...they also reinvested mine last year but paid the interest but I stop using them cos of that and liquidated the entire investment...first bank sells from their stock that why they don't miss ur reinvestment even when no primary auction....u should also understand that it stated that funds will be reinvested on maturity if no instruction is given by investor is there on terms and conditions.. ..try and read ur certificate well...first bank can sue u for false alarm.. 1 Like |

BBFE: Oga ,oil plunged to below $40/ at the tail end of Jonathan's era but dollar didn't spike, go and check ur records. The last time buhari ruled, his first move in office was to change our currency....little wonder the rush for dollar. And I am not talking about just individual hoarding, institutions were also in the race, go and confirm. Oil price drop that was happening gradually from the time of uncle jona cannot on its own account for such drastic spike from N200/ $ to N525/ $. Then lastly try to accommodate people's opinion. Everyone cannot have the same views wrong or right. Happy weekend. 5 Likes |
