We should accept fate on certain situations and not play god all the time. Both parties should allow bygone to be bygone. 12 years is quite a long period, to sooth minds even if the wounds are everlasting.
Let God be the judge, even if she's sentenced to death, doesn't bring Dr Giwa back to life.
She should rather humble herself and be a Minister in God's vineyard, than a politician.

No matter the verdict, it cannot bring back the death.
Even if she is sentenced to death, it will still not bring back the dead.

This is not about bringing back the dead. This is about justice. Are you a child, that you do not know this?

eagleeye2:

It was an accident. And unless you have never been involved in one, will you judge her harshly. What will 200Milion do for the family? Bring back their dead brother?

See above.

eagleeye2:

I think having fame and wealth cones with a great risk in this country. Cos if Ibinabo has been a poor danfo driver, this case would have dragged this long?

Are you actually so deluded as to claim that celebrities and rich people have it worse with law enforcement than regular people? Is this a case of self-brainwashing?
You actually got something right for once. A poor danfo driver who commits a DUI hit-and-run on a very respected medical doctor from a prominent family would have been speedily found guilty and sentenced. In fact, the danfo driver would have showed MUCH more remorse instead of trying to manage the truth and evade justice over selfish career concerns.

eagleeye2:
You want her to confess to drunk driving and she says NO. that means she is arrogant?
So, the sister is the one telling the truth? oh well their case, their life.

Yes, people expect a confession as a sign of true repentance and regret. People expect the first reaction to be much better. Most certainly the family are aggrieved that this lady fled without stopping to care for the doctor and that her initial series of moves were geared towards saving her career vs genuine moves for forgiveness.

Who come dey lie for this story now. She said she was unconscious and taken to d hospital, anoda story said she took d car papers nd ran away. Somebody that flew so high nd landed on anoda car should have been knocked out from that impact especially if the rider was a woman who according to the story was said to be drunk. I guess somebody helped her cover her tracks while she was taken to the hospital if you ask me. Wat do I even know, I no dey dere when e happen.

Sir you are wrong, sometimes round 2016 a car accident happened along Hospital road very close to agbonmagbe lodge at ebute-metta. A black Prado suv was over speeding and its brake malfunctioned, the driver couldn't bring it to a halt, the driver tried to ram the suv against the divider so as to bring it to a halt but it didn't as it climbed over the divider the driver had to steer it into vehicle stopped by traffic light and it climbed and destroyed three vehicles. Though nobody was hurt as they all escaped narrowly.

Awww……touching but……the reason we have a justice system is that every angle is observed.

The beauty of the justice system is also that technical officials, witnesses and everyone are called to hear their bit before a judgement is given and here are the facts in her case

"The speed that skipped and flipped a jeep over the road demarcation will be considered ‘Reckless and Endangerment‘ because the VIO dept checked the jeep brakes, the engine and all the mechanical and electrical of the jeep but the result shows nothing wrong with the jeep and confirm that the accident as due to ‘OVER SPEEDING‘ in which the result was on record"

Does She take the courts for jokers? How will a car jump over a road divider and you claim you were not over-speeding?

"After the accident, Ibinabo left the scene of the accident without checking for any survivors, she took the license plate and registration out of the car and fled from the scene, that was considered “HIT AND RUN”. The people at the scene of the accident recognized her as Ibinabo Febresima, and stated she was drunk.”Driving Under Influence” of whatever she had "

Muliple witnesses confirm that she left the scene by herself and removed the car plates. They named her and testified to this

"The State Department of Transportation has to use the VIN number to locate the Owner of the jeep, in which the owner was Daniel Wilson. That was my very first time of hearing the name of Ibinabo Febresima. The Doctor died at the scene of the accident because the jeep was on top of the Honda accord driven by him and they couldn’t save him on time because of the seat belt and the weight of the jeep, the brother and the other family friend in that car had survived. Did she know the state of mind and the emotional instability of the people involved in that accident up till now, Ibinabo has never been in a Comma. "

Her jeep was so high in the air, it jumped over a read divider and landed on another car. The last time I saw this was "fast and the furious"
She wants to argue that she has been depressed, thibk of the family, the patient, what the country lost.

"After all the evidences against her, with the result of the VIO by the State department of Transportation, The DPP office took over and charged her to court and she hired Festus Keyamo in which after reviewing the case he withdrew by saying he cannot represent her because it’s a bad case.

Even lawyers stayed away from her case cos they knew it was hopeless

She said and l quote “I CAN’T DO THAT, BECAUSE IS GOING TO DAMAGE MY CAREER” what an ego, she cannot apologize publicly, I feel like kicking her ass. She’s worried about her stupid career, What happened to the career of the Doctor, who happened to be a ‘MEDICAL DIRECTOR AND THE HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL REHABILITATION MEDICINE AT GENERAL HOSPITAL LAGOS.

This part is just lovely. Very lovely

All in all, instead of appealing for public sympathy, allow the supreme court give judgement and we can finally close this.

But Ibinabo should know that contesting for public office in light of this is terrible for optics. Surely her handlers cant be that insensitive to put her up to this and her endorsing it even before the supreme court gives judgement is just a show of insensitivity

I pity her honestly, and her explanation as regards how it happened, i can related. We have lots of mad people on the road daily. People just drive anyhow and race while at it without being considerate to other road users. So sad...

If it is a civil case, she should keep pleading with the family for withdrawal of the case but it was stupid for her peopme to be pushing her for political ambition. Am sure the reason would be one mediocre thinking like that but honestly, i think the family should get compensated and move on. She will take responsibility of father over that family be that.

The deed is done, the bereaved family should please forgive and move on...

We all know she was reckless irrespective of her "red car" story, but continued destruction of her personality does not make us better, but bitter.

Lawyers will give you every reason to stay on the case while they make more money, its 12 years OK?
That's a fortune...
How about sponsoring the living with that money?

Dr Giwa, appears to be a gentleman from every story I read and I believe its more respectful to allow him rest other than mentioning his name with these cock and bull stories for a whole 12 years. If you cannot forgive someone who has been begging you for 12 years, then you need help. Sentiment aside. Please let go!!!

You do not need to take her 'explanation' as gospel truth. There were MULTIPLE witnesses to the accident who all testified against the lady, with an entirely different account than what she provided.

I too feel some pity for her...she's made a hash of things right after the accident and putting her selfish interest first in the immediate aftermath ensured the late doctor's family remain embittered towards her. But she needs to realize that some things just can't be wished away.

One accident cost Ted Kennedy a shot at the US presidency for life. Mistakes of his youth could never be erased. It happens.

Read again. She did all that but the dead persons family were adamant. Is painful one has to die but will revenge bring him back? This lady has suffered so much. A lot of people are being killed by boko haram even some die on road accident non has suffered what this lady had suffered. A friend of mine was killed by a drunk driver, the family of the driver begged and we had to let go cos revenge won't bring back my friend. If the situation was the opposite what stand would you 've taken? May the soul of doctor continue to rest in peace. Revenge won't bring closure

You made sense until you said “contesting for public office is terrible” you must be joking right? 12 years.... so she should not move on with her life cos the case is still in court? Let the courts decide but she cannot continually put her life on hold. While waiting for the decision of the court (we all know how long that can take) let her move on with her life and do whatever she wants.

It’s painful to the Giwa family but life goes on.... this is the truth.

And you think you're making sense in saner climes what she did is enough to destroy her political career and those of her children. Being in a public office requires great responsibility and she has failed woefully in that regards

She should have done this many years back. The Giwafamily should please forgive her. Am sure the Giwa family are muslims. If they understand Islam, there are ways to treat man slaughter cases since it wasn't intentional. What if their son was killed by unknown person, would they have time to brood over this issue. If my friend's family could put their past behind after his uncle, a breadwinner of the family was killed by unknown assassins

I get your point but i wont follow a witness's statement here. I have had a similar case, not unto death but broken leg. Not my fault, you know how people cross indiscriminately on the express but when it happens, people dont see the fact that its wrong to cross the road the way nigerians do. A bike man carries a passenger and drives recklessly on lagos road and when you caution, its even the oassenger that will be telling you that dont you have eyes like 'hey, when you see me, stop driving'. Nigerian road users are terrible at it and when it happens, you hear different stories and the truth would never be spoken because of many sentiments. While trying to avoid colliding into the car in front of you, she swerved and found her car at the other aide of the road, that happens regularly on Lagos road especially in that lekki. You see some accidents and you wonder how did this happen! People dont understand that it can happen and they say all sorts, so i can relate with it.

However, again you are right. Its now a burden and she cant wish it away. She can only continue to plead with the family and pray God touches their heart. Jailing her indefinitely wont bring back the dead but she can do some time if letting her feel the pain of loosing a loved one would mediate the pain. They should just seek compensation and move on and probably compel to one or two duties of the demised one. 12years down the line, the deed is done and nothing has changed

I'm touched by the story but unless I'm absolutely wrong, the car she was driving was owned by a one time popular reggae/dancehall act who, in a meeting with my ex-boss around that period, actually narrated the little trouble he was in because Ibinabo in a drunk-driving fit with one of his cars, committed the act.

I surely couldn't have dreamt that up, could I?

I'm not even sure anymore...

Continue laughing and be involved in a road crash that becomes a court case, the shit will get real when a senior VIO and FRSC official comes to testify on the speed limit of the road you were driving on.

Even leaving speed limit, Nigeria Road traffic laws says you must drive responsibly and not endanger other people's lives. This is open ended and subject to the interpretation of Road Safety officials and eye witnesses. It's not difficult to fry someone driving anyhow. Everybody detests such driving. Especially pedestrians and bystanders.

Thank goodness that you identified the uselessness of open ended statements like 'must drive carefully'...

I tried to avoid hitting those boys in the red car. I swerved and lost control in that moment, the impact dived my vehicle into inbound lane.. Dr. Giwa was inbound, thus he drove into my car and both cars collided.
This statement shows that she's not sincere. This is obviously a PR stunt. She dived into his lane and drove into his car. The cars didn't collide, she drove into him. If the case is on appeal, she should be quiet until the appeal is determined. Doesn't she know that her conviction disqualifies her from contesting for political office?
In fact, the Supreme Court hardly ever upturns two consecutive judgments of the trial court and court of appeal. If she is on bail, she should be quiet.
We can only surmise that she intends to use political office to avoid prison or to get a payout.

How could she have fled when the jeep landed on top of the victims car? How did she even maneuver her way after that?
They claimed she was drunk, but she was active enough to have removed the plate number of the car she was driving.
The VIO verdict was reckless driving seeing that nothing happened to the jeep. And I ask again, how possible can a jeep that jumped a road divider and landed on another remain intact?
If the court is going to sentence her, let them do so. If the family wants an out of court settlement, abeg ask yourself what 200 million will be for? is it going to bring back their dead brother?
If Ibinabo was a nobody and she actually fled the scene of the accident, please do you really think that they would have caught up with him or her?
Some even want her to pause her life, because she was involved in an accident.
No sentiment here. If she is found guilty by the supreme court let them jail her or whatever sentence suits them.
But if the family wants an out of court settlement, then they should all be reasonable. It's sad the man died. But unless they are asking for her life, I don't see why she shouldn't continue living.

No. For 12 years the case has been in and out of the courts. Eyewitness testimonies have been there for anyone to look them up. Ditto for court proceedings.

This woman has been convicted by law courts...and an appeal court has upheld the conviction. We can already draw our own conclusions based on overwhelming evidence. Any 'side of the story' discussion from the actress should just be read to satisfy curiosity.
