Mikel: Super Eagles Can Make History In Russia April 27, 2018 10:05 pm Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi believes the team can make history in Russia in June when the FIFA World Cup gets underway. The Tianjin TEDA of China midfielder says the team will surprise the world by going farther than any Nigerian team has done in the competition. ”I think we are in a group where we can do something. It depends on our preparations and how much we want it, not just we have qualified let’s just go and play the World Cup. ”We want to make history, we want to do well. We want to make sure we go there believing we can beat Argentina, Croatia and Iceland,” Mikel told FIFA World Cup Russia Magazine. Nigeria’s best placing in their previous four appearances at the competition was the second finish in 1994,1998 and 2014 and Mikel is confident the team will surpass that record. The Eagles will open their campign on June 16 against Croatia at the Kaliningrad Stadium in Kaliningrad before playing Iceland six days later at the Volgograd Arena in Volgograd. Nigeria’s last game is against Argentina whom they have four times at the World Cup.The game will hold at the Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg. |

andrew444: But him no get three world cups like Pele.... Looolll.... He used his trophy cabinet once to taunt Pele only for Pele and the football media to remind him that Pele has three world cups (the biggest trophy in football THRICE) but he has none not even half of it and that Pele was magical every time Brazil won it in his time. Ofcos Pele has many more titles too at club and international level but the world cup three times is bigger than all The LA ligas, UCLs and cops del reys Alves won.. That is the biggest trumping mehn..... Hahahahahahahahaha

realpoacher:Or maybe, just maybe, the referees are not incompetent but scared for their lives and would do anything within their power to make sure the home team wins. Look at what happened to the ref that officiated the Heartland Vs plateau united game. Dude got the beating of his life simply because Plateau united scored and he allowed it stand. 1 Like |

I agree that, generally, very talented young players will take time to peak and begin showing their monster forms in their mid-20s or a bit earlier. But I also still hold the opinion that certain players even at 18 or maybe 21 will still ruffle feathers using their precociousness to trump experience. There are always exceptions to the rule Dad.... You know that. ![]() Some players take time to mature and hit their peak levels between ages 25-30 or so... E.g. Drogba, Salah, Jorginho.... Etc But some others at age 19, 20, 21 or even 22 will be at an already high level technically making giant leaps and making fine statements even before they reach ages 25-33.... E.g. Messi, CR7, Pele, Maradona, Neymar, Kanu... Etc Icon4s: |

Yeah... You could also say that and it will be right. Give or take it is most or some or somewhere between most or some... But for sure the majority takes it generally. asha80: |

asha80: Which Brazilian people are looking at his defensive quality, that has been the way Brazilian groom left back and right back, check Cafu, Carlos, Marcelo and Macon. Wing back support the attack and DM provide protection, Emerson and Gilberto silver was always doing that, and now they have fenadihno,Gustavo and pualihno The world is even following there foot step now, go and watch champions league final between Madrid and juventus, watch laces and Marcelo focus more on there defensive part 2 Likes |

Martz101:i follow a brazillian national team handle @BrazilStat on twitter that tweets in english so i see their comments when brazillian national team issues are discussed..maicon is actually srong defensively despite being attacking minded like many other brazillian fullbacks before him like carlos alberto, jorginho(this one was also strong defensively),josimar, branco and leanardo |

asha80: Bros Alves is far better than maicon defensively, and in modern football Right back and Left back are always flying up there, and for the fans your saw talking him down is normal, even some fans in Argentina talk messi down |

Martz101:i doubt that because if not dunga(who is very defensive conscious)would used alves not maicon as a starter during 2010 world cup and scolari(another defensive conscious man) would have stuck to alves in 2014 instead of bringing back maicon in the quarter finals and semi finals at a time alves was 29 and no injury and maicon was 34. |
