Coxtie: the problem with some of your answers sounds so abstract ........... Find the jobs that relate to Liberal arts and build up from there......It might make it clearer to understand what your dreams and aspirations are . For example (when i search for liberal arts job since i dont know much ) rephrasing the answer: my dream is to be a Public relations specialist or Policy Analyst or Management Personnel and a bsc in Liberal arts would give me the skills in order to XXXX in peace keeping, disputes settlement, peace building in individual and in the nation at large. Also with this statement . my present school could not offer liberal arts ........a Vo can ask if your school doesnt , there are a million other schools in Nigeria . why have you not tried the rest . So that statement my present school might not be a good way to start that response Interview is subjective, in the sense that what sounds ok in one ears , might not sound ok in another . So the prayer / hope is that it would sound favorable in the Vo's ears 10 Likes 1 Share |

Hi everyone. Pls I would like to know if showing my Dad's landed property and a study leave letter will be tangible enough to prove home ties to my county for F1 visa. Thanks for your anticipated replies. |

Guys, What do you think about this? I applied to MSF/MFE programs at MIT, Johns Hopkins, Villanova, Oxford, Mcgill and Durham. Unfortunately, I got into all but the ones I really wanted - MIT, Oxford and Mcgill. TBH, i have no interest in the other schools and only applied there as a backup plan. Option 1: Should i fashee and just go to Durham? PRO's - Cheapest amongst all my schools (£7,500 scholarship) - My brother works in the UK so there's convenience - I may be lucky enough to land a job in my dream BB CON - I may not be as lucky as my brother in terms of getting a job. - I'd be more advanced than my classmates given my background Option 2: Should I just stay back in Nigeria for another year, re-write the GRE (I got 322 the last time and MIT's average is 327) and re-apply (i'd obviously apply to more schools and i think i'd look into Canada) PRO's - I get to complete my CFA (hopefully) - I may get into my dream school (MIT) or any other top school i apply to CON - I may not get into my dream school - Wasted opportunities |

VECOH1: Your dad's property? Not so much. Unless it's yours. I would say a study leave letter would do a good job... I assume it shows you intend to go back to that job especially if you've been there for a long time and the pay is really good. Another factor that could work in your favor is if the course you're coming to study is directly related to your current job/if the current employers are the ones sponsoring/if the letter says upon your return and completion of studies, the job's waiting for you with a raise in wages/promotion. Thing is... there's no one thing that absolutely serves as proof of home ties. Burden is on the applicant to be prepared to provide as much proof as possible. Finally, you should try to communicate these things without having to show any documents. A VO hardly has enough time to read through letters, etc. and you'll be helping yourself if you can use words in such a way that showing documents wouldn't be necessary. 3 Likes |

hilaryxoxo: Say no to Durham ............lol . I am very anti UK at the moment . Their immigration policy makes it so difficult to get a job after graduation. It is possible but the chances are so slim . If this was full scholarship where you dont pay a penny then yes why not ,but to use your hard earned naira , i would say No to Uk at the moment . If you dont mind packing your load and going to Naija after school then yes to UK as well I know someone will come with epistle supporting UK , well i have said my own . John Hopkins is an interesting school .......It is very strong in medical but not so much in other areas 9 Likes |

Mekurexx: Sorry to chip in. There is no quota for visa allocated per year. As far you do the right thing, your visa will be given to you |

Believe it or not. All visas have quotas for the year. Even the popular H1B, green cards all have quotas. Do more research and you'll see. Drivers license too has quotas. Ubah1: 1 Like |

I want to use this medium to thank Nairaland and this thread especially for input, knowledge, criticisms and knowledge that has been shared for a long time. I gained insight from this thread before I went for my interview, moved here and even when settled here. 2 years later I am celebrating my masters graduation (cum laude). I cant begin to @ all the monikers that left in Fall 2016 but I trust everyone is doing good and also getting ready for graduation. Thank you all for everything 18 Likes |

hilaryxoxo:In as much as I don't support the way he answers some questions because I believe there are better ways to pass the message accross. However, you guys are doing exactly what you are accusing him of. Calling someone 'ode' or 'boy' or 'waiter' is not rude to you? Because Nairaland is a faceless forum does not mean everyone here is a kid or fresh out of undergrad. Just to give you a perspective of who he is..this person you called waiter works in one of the largest oil company in the world. Him telling you to tell your friend to ask the question is not a big deal here. I don't think its hard to ignore some comments that are not telling you what you want to hear. Never burn bridges on your way up, you never know if you will need he/she's help later in life, nairaland is not that faceless. Never met or spoken to him in my life but if I see him in life, I can recognize him. Moving forward, try to practice what you preach, just ignore and get it going 8 Likes |
