That is rich coming from you. First distinguish btw Saudi/Norway/China forex invested in sovereign funds (those are the inter-generational ones which are invested in US TREASURY) - and Nigeria or Kenya forex that are kept in US bank vaults (as CASH) just to cover import bill. The Nigeria forex are kept for trading...next time an importer goes to CBN or a nigeria bank..they'll get part of that 40B dollars...it not invested in say treasury fund like China or Saudis or etc. Nigeria forex as of last few years were nearly whipped out and people were struggling to get forex; right now there are two dollar rates - official and market rate -- therefore you're doing a bad job in forex business. If oil drop a few points - your forex will be whipped out in a few months. Secondly you export a lot of oil - and yet you have measily 40B forex - Kenya export 5-6B dollars worth of stuff - and yet we have forex at 9-10B dollars!! - and please don't call cash kept for trading purpose - inter-generational. Nigeria has NO SAVINGS as far as their petrol dollars goes. ALL SQUANDERED. The next generation will only receive debts and degraded enviroment -your water systems is already messed up by oil spillage! Thirdly as regard Somali - I am talking more important stuff - revenues and budget - what is per capita budget spending in Nigeria - the worst - maybe 150 dollars is all you'll get from your mighty Nigeria - a Kenya will get nearly 500-600USD. obaaderemi: 1 Like |

GERALD710: So,why aren't u exploring and utilizing the numerous mineral resources you have?? .. Mineral resources,I believe are gifts of nature.. Before oil was discovered in Nigeria, our economy survived on agriculture and it was doing very well.. I think the discovery of oil has turned out to be a curse rather than a blessing, but still out government explored and utilized it to grow the economy (at most times, their pocket) Since east Africa has more mineral resource than Nigeria, why aren't u utilizing it to grow ur $70b economy? or are the minerals worthless? 2 Likes 1 Share |

rvp20182:I think you Kenyans should stop talking economics and stick to posting pictures. Why is Nigeria's balance of payment positive while Kenya's balance of payment is negative? The more I dig about Kenya the scarier it gets. If a small country like Kenya could have such negative balance of payment then Africa is in serious trouble. You need to question your government what they are doing with your budget. And again you are wrong about Somalia figures. Don't fabricate figures to prove a point. That's desperation, my brother. 4 Likes |

You keep drifting to stuff you can barely comprehend. What has Trade Defficit (+ve or +ve balance of payments) got anything to do with anything. Our macro-economics are solid. The least of that can be said of Nigeria. You guys have trouble getting forexs and yet you export tonnes of oil - so all you positive trade deficit is link to Oil (and will drop with oil). Yes kenya we do badly in export - our exports are stuck at 5-6B dollars - but we are way better than Nigeria - because after Oil - the next big export in Nigeria is COCOA beans - which is 5 times less than Ivory Coast or 3 times lower than Ghana..and yet you have 3 or 5 times land mass. But unlike Nigeria who depend entirely on OIL trade to get forexs - we have many source of forex - that is why we have never ran out of forex - we get lots of forex from tourism (that is not captured in trade ), we got lot more forexs from fact that Nairobi is UN HQ and social entrepreneurship of the Africa (NGOS & donors targetting east africa), we have remittances and we have fledging BPO industry....all that mean...we don't have forex issues...we can buy as much imports as we need. So forex reserves or trade deficit - are non-issues! Again next time you talk about economics - try at least to enrol in some basic lessons. For instance US has a negative trade deficit - but it's no biggie because US doesn't need forex when USD is default global currency. obaaderemi: 2 Likes |

rvp20182:I pity you. You are a poor student of economics and you keep making a fool of yourself here the more you try to wriggle out. How can an educated man from a small African country like Kenya say what has trade deficit got to do with ANYTHING? AND then you went ahead to use the American economy as an example to justify an affair which is slowly wrecking Kenya's socioeconomic stability. Now I can see you are just arguing for the sake of it. Read this and see how trade deficit affects poor countries such as Kenya. You might not understand because of your ossified mind but who knows? a Kenyan somewhere with an open mind will read and understand. https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/economy/Kenya-s-trade-deficit-crosses-Sh1trn-mark/3946234-4282150-73a1q9/index.html Analysts say the widening deficit is piling pressure on the shilling against global currencies such as the dollar, denying Kenya an opportunity to create more jobs because locals lose out to foreign manufacturers. READ: Flat exports as trade deficit hits Sh946bn The high demand for the dollar to fund imports forces the CBK to intervene, depleting foreign exchange reserves. A wider deficit is watched closely by global investors, especially when Kenya seeks foreign debt, as it affects the recommended external debt service to exports ratio of 21 per cent, which Kenya has already breached. 1 Like 1 Share |

The same man who said Somalia's population is 5million and claimed Angola's budget is $124bn. The same man who said American agric is valued at $200bn and when i showed him its over $400bn still kept turning facts on their head.Well done, sir but I held you in higher esteem than this being a Kikuyu. Your map is nothing more than % of arable land. It's just the mapping of farm lands. Not productivity. You can see Nigeria or Uganda are blessed with lots of Arable land..but what have they done with it...except grow millet & sorghum in it. obaaderemi: 3 Likes |

rvp20182:Now it is clear you and your friends have been arguing just for the sake of it. If you can't read that chart, then Kenyan educational standard should be questioned. Enough! Now let me educate you a bit. Look at the chart, on the left hand side is a table with colored lines on it representing regions of Africa. At the top of the table is written "Agricultural production in dollars per person." So that chart is not only about crop production but also about value in dollar terms. Now if you look again, you will see that production for East Africa where Kenya is is just $100 per person, among the lowest in Africa. Look at the line for West Africa, where Nigeria dominates and it's above $300 per person. Now multiply 300 by 200m people and you arrive at $60bn +.For crop alone in a year! For Kenya with 50m people you have $100 * 50m. That's a paltry $5bn. Your grasp of statistics is so poor we can begin to excuse Kenya National Bureau of Statistics for its fake data. 3 Likes
