If the job is very financially rewarding, it can be a strong tie even to the foreign land. I know of Nigerians working in Ghana that obtain their US visas in Ghana.

Got to Us embassy for Interview today.Its was crowded as usual.I & my wife were denied. Alot of people got denied even if you have travel history.They granted most of the elderly people today.So sad

Exactly that's what I mean... if it's financial rewarding and he's a specialist/expert in that field or has been working in that country for a very very long time fine anything apart from this will make the application weak.

Hello everyone, good morning.

I have read the whole thread and previous ones and I can say I was able to get quite a lot of my questions answered.

However, there is just one obstacle that keeps bugging me. I want to apply for a US tourist visa. I was denied in 2009 when I was in the UK as full time grad student and I only had a part time job. I could understand then why I was refused a tourist visa.

My sister is a US citizen, she lives there and she got her citizenship as she was the 1st set of people who won the visa lottery when it first started I believe in 1996.

How can I overcome the fact that I have a sister in the US that is a citizen? I just want to go for my annual leave. I go to the UK all the time, I've also been to France.

Any form of advise will be greatly appreciated.

Stronger ties built over the years should help. 2009 is quite some time now.... Whats your job and pay like? Are you married now, kids? What extra ties can you bring to the table? Travel history not looking bad though, and your sister's entrance of the US is legit too. The visas you have had so far, hope they have been used properly in line with their terms and conditions, especially after school? You should be fine sha, taking a hold of your interview ought to be easy for you if your home work has been well done!

Hi all just want to share some good news ,my visa was approved today, I have been studying this thread like iwas studying for an exam lol.
I must say I was a little discouraged by the number of denials given to people with seemingly strong ties.
I am female married, I am a dentist with the Police force applying for visa with my hubby and two kids .we are all first timers to the US one of the kids is his step child, hubby does not have a stable job just trying to start a production company and no travel history ,I was the principal applicant.we were usherd to window 2 a white male visa officer,I preferred it that way I feel the lady officers can be mean lol.
here is the transcript.

He calls his colleague they talk for a long while can't hear what they are say ,but my hubby can he late tells me the Vo was asking his colleague how come I was born in Sudan and not having dual citizenship, colleague says ,there is no issue with that ,it happens
Vo-wears his head piece and asks so you are all nigerian citizens
Me and Hubby -yes (I realized that Vo hasn't asked hubby any questions apart from the first one)
VO -takes our 4 passports and put them on the pile and gives us white paper your visa has been approved

Notes-
My hubby wasn't asked about travel history or any other thing apart from what he does for a living
No documents were requested from us at all
No question about finance .
guess ones experience depends on the Visa officer ,it's very subjective.

My uncle,his wife and baby was denied early this year. He wasn't happy as he has promised his wife a visit to new York. Then he was processing his Canada EE, he got his PPR,and says he wants to try U.S again and spend 2weeks there b4 relocating finally to Canada before the end of the year.his question is hope he won't be denied due to the COPR on his passport. He has booked his Canada flight for November.

The only fear that should have been existing here is just on your husband and his ties, and how that will affect the generality of your application. My take home here particularly is in the truthful approach to this seeming shortcoming and the outcome despite. Thumbs up guys! Your cover was massive though (run na , you are still a plus to their system). Nice one....

And oh, there was a pile as bolded above? Okay oh! Thought they don't issue visas, hear this lots here from people that get denied....

I would advise that he applies for US visa once he get to Canada as as permanent resident.
That way he will get 10 years visa instead of 2 years visa in Nigeria. As a permanent resident in Canada, it will be very easy for him to get US visa, ALMOST guarantee.

The reason I never talk put for the other "sister" wey dey confused about whether she na married or single she need to claim be say no be every time person get power to dey fight both ridiculous posters and all these unseen bad belle people for here (mostly visa terms saboteurs, illegal immigrants already and intending immigrants too). Na God say dem no fit access person oh, many carry dagger to take chook person if to say road dey. I just weighed and noticed that she will understand the implication of her plan by the time it fails, and "MARRIED" gets pinned on her. Na her choice, me no get power!

My wife has siblings in US that are lawful residents, she has never been denied visa because of this. The fact that you have not misused your UK visa is a strength.

WOW, I just saw this. I read your first response and was grateful for it. However, I really don't understand what you are trying to insinuate here. A while back, I went deeper into my history stating that I went to the US for my 1st degree from 1996 - 2000, came back, decided to get my Masters in the UK in 2008, denied US visa in 2009. Wanted to go to the US because my sister just had twins at 50 years and everyone was so excited for her after years of trying plus all my other siblings were going too. However, I could understand my visa denial....applying from a country you are not a resident of, part time job, etc.

Back in Nigeria for 5 years, situation has improved greatly, continue to travel abroad, etc.

My problem to my question was how to overcome my sister being a US citizen since from what I have read so far, it can work against you.

Oh and I am a Miss...

All you guys that respond to others are helpful, but you really do not need to make comments such as this. Your 2nd response was very hurtful and uncalled for. Your 1st response either favorable or unfavorable to my question was fine, we all move on. But then you then went on and began to insinuate things which was not in my character after some goading from another poster. No one pays you to answer questions I know, but words do hurt. JMO

In 2009, I was in school I had just finished my grad school in the UK and I was on work permit. At that time in the UK, they give you 2 years to work after grad school. Not sure they still do it. I came back to Nigeria in 2013, traveled back every year to the UK for Christmas. I still have a valid UK visa in my passport plus I just returned from France 2 weeks ago from a business trip (sponsored by my Company). So I also have a valid 1 year schengen visa in my passport.

I work for a reputable Company. I am in the Human Resources Department (Team Lead, Recruitment). My net salary is N330k, Gross 410K. I am not married, I have no kids. Just a choice I made.

Not particularly looking bad, except the 96 - 2000 previous experience in the US, key! Throw more light if you will. And the use of your UK visa maybe, 2009-2013 vis-a-vis @the bolded.... Not married, no kids too ain't too good too, considering you kind of application actually requires lots of ties because of your immediate family tie in the US.
