See how poor is lagos the internal revenue generation The Lagos State Government on Tuesday said its internally gSee how poor is lagos the internal revenue generationenerated revenue for the first quarter of Y2018 stood at N103.476billion, as against N96.7billion recorded in the previous year, thereby accounting for 81 per cent of the total revenue of N141billion generated in the quarter. Scores of youths marching on Ikorodu Road on Saturday, March 31, 2018 to endorse Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State for a second term. Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Segun Banjo who disclosed this during the annual Ministerial Press Briefing to mark the third year in office of Governor Ambode’s administration held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, said the records so far shows that the performance of the State’s Y2018 budget of N1.046trillion was heading in the right direction. Giving a breakdown of the figures, the Commissioner said the budget performance for the first quarter has a pro-rata size of N261.530billion and in absolute term, it had performed N163.491bn, compared with N120.206billion reported for the same period in Y2017. In terms of revenue generation, Banjo said that the sum of N141billion (63 per cent) was generated as Total Revenue against N124.141billion (77 per cent) achieved in 2017, adding that this year’s first quarter performance was N17.816billion higher than the previous year’s performance in absolute terms. He said out of the total revenue of N141billion the State internally generated N103.476billion representing 57 per cent, as against N96.7billion in the previous year, thereby accounting for 73 percent of the total revenue for the current fiscal year. The Commissioner explained further that the Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) generated N84.1bilion in the first quarter, which accounted for 81 per cent of the total revenue generated, a feat, he attributed to proper planning and research by the government. “What we have said now is that in the first quarter which we just concluded of 2018, LIRS generated a total of N84 billion compared to the N74billion that was generated in 2017. Due to the research and the planning done, LIRS has been able to improve their performance and we are very glad about it,” he said. Banjo however noted that the N84billion generated by LIRS was excluding revenue from Land Use Charge (LUC), noting that it was from the strict application of taxes from Pay As You Earn (PAYE), withholding taxes, direct assessment and other taxes. Besides, he said that Federal transfers for the first quarter Y2018 contributed N38.481billion (87 per cent) compared to a performance of N27.364billion out of which Statutory Allocation contributed N13.868billion and N24.4billion from VAT for the same period in 2017. “Under Capital Expenditure, Quarter 1 performance stood at N93billion (53 per cent) as against N46.7billion (37 per cent) as at the same period in Y2017. As at the end of Q1 2018, the Capital:Recurrent ratio closed at 57:43 as against 39:61 recorded same time in Y2017. “This is a pointer to the fact that all efforts geared towards tighter control of overhead is beginning to yield fruits even though more needs to be done in this area,” he said. He said the State Government would do everything within its powers to sustain the budget performance in the second quarter, adding that the ultimate goal was to meet the target of a Capital: Recurrent expenditure ratio of 67:33 throughout the year. Responding to questions on the reduction in the rates payable by property owners under the Lagos State Land Use Charge Law, vis a vis the 2018 budget and its effects on the plans by the government to deliver all ongoing projects in the State, the Commissioner allayed fears, adding that the present administration had already fashioned out strategies to ensure prompt delivery of critical projects this year. “Definitely we have made a projection but because this is a very responsive government, we have decided to give rebates and when you give rebates, automatically the revenue will go down, the expectation might not be there in terms of what we intended in the first instance. But we can assure you that whatever we lose from the rebate we would get it somewhere else because we would continue to up our game,” Banjo said. rvp2018:UNEP either doesn’t know what desert means or is like many other organizations who like to spread lies. Even 70% of Ethiopia isn’t a lowland in general. Ethiopia is half highland and half lowland. I told you once before if you remember. More than 70% of Africa mountains are found in Ethiopia and they are rugged and even the Alpes of Europe aren’t comparable to them.

Ethiopian land which falls within the UNEP's definition of desertification is estimated to cover. 71.5% of the country's total land area. Overgrazing, deforestation, poor farming practices and using dung for fuel are the major causes of land degradation in Ethiopia. An estimated 70–75% of Ethio- pia's livestock population. obaaderemi: 2 Likes |

obaaderemi:I now get what his confession is. He is substituting any barren areas with desert. For example, if the trees on a mountain are cut greatly, then that area is considered a desert according to him and UNEP, which is is wrong. Lowland which is a boarder term which includes desert, etc.... includes areas below 1000 meter. Desert is the extreme of this term. Even 70% of Ethiopia don’t generally fall under 1000 meter let alone be it only desert. 33% of Ethiopia was covered by forest 50-55 years ago, but during the reign of Derg government, it diminished greatly to just only 3%. But after the end of Derg it’s rising and now 13-15% are covered with forest. I’m sure it will continue to rise in the coming decades. |

India doing extremely well on electrification: World Bank The report comes less than a week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that all the villages in the country have been electrified. By: PTI | Washington | Published: May 4, 2018 10:22:04 am India doing extremely well on electrification: World Bank The report said that nearly 85 per cent of the country’s population has access to electricity. India is doing “extremely well” on electrification with nearly 85 per cent of the country’s population having access to electricity, the World Bank has said. Between 2010 and 2016, India providing electricity to 30 million people each year, more than any other country, the World Bank said in its latest report released this week. While challenges still remain to provide electricity to the rest of the 15 per cent of the 1.25 billion population, India is all set to achieve the target of universal access to electricity before the 2030 target date, Vivien Foster, Lead Energy Economist at the World Bank here told PTI. The report comes less than a week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that all the villages in the country have been electrified. The report said that nearly 85 per cent of the country’s population has access to electricity. “India is doing extremely well on electrification. We are reporting India about 85 per cent of the population has access to electricity,” said Foster, lead World Bank author of the latest report on Energy Progress. This figure, she pointed out, is higher than that of the Indian government. “That might surprise you. The government is currently reporting in low 80s,” she said. While the World Bank’s methodology is based on household survey, which includes even those who are off grid, while the figures of the government is based on official utility connection, she said. “In absolute terms, India is doing more on electrification than any other countries. Thirty million a year, is really an astounding performance and it stands out from the crowd,” Foster said. However, India is not the fastest country in electrification. Bangladesh and Kenya, for example are faster in electrification than India, she noted. India, she said, is now entering final stage of electrification. Nigeria has to do well on electricity and security ,then sky is the limit 1 Like |

Danielnino00: Now I can see that you are a stack illiterate , 290 million us dollar in first quarter is to poor .1.5 billion us dollar per year for lagos in revenue generation that is a disgrace for a city like lagos. that show lagos not produce but it is a consuming city with very few industries and production chains for exports. Lagos gdp is over 100 billion us dollar they can only race 1.5 billion us dollars per year revenue. My country nigeria is a joke if other africans see this they will laugh maybe the gdp is super inflated because 1.5% tax does not make sense 1 Like |

Danielnino00:Wow! Lagos is doing well in terms of IGR. Over $1bn in a year is not too bad. Meanwhile, the man you quoted is a stark illiterate who can't read between the lines. You can see the Kenyans are even ignoring his posts due to his poor grasp of language. Obviously he hates Nigeria due to Jonathan's loss of the 2015 election. But the silly boy still has Nigerian papers. So he believes he is trapped and hates his life. Even a blind man can sense his pain. Do you know that all the 47 counties in Kenya together in nine months generated IGR lower than Lagos did in three months. They made $247million in 3 quarters and Lagos made $290m in one quarter! https://www.nation.co.ke/business/Counties--revenue-collection-dips-by-Sh1-2bn/996-4117070-15q6eio/index.html The 47 counties collected a total of Sh24.7 billion between July 2016 and March this year compared to Sh25.9 billion realised over a similar period a year earlier, data by the Treasury shows. 4 Likes

obaaderemi: I like what you said about me. A lot of it is lies. I left nigeria during obasanjo time and I did not even know jonathan and have never met jonathan you think nigerian papers are so important. Any where I go with nigerian papers they say I must be a criminal .I have 5 citizenships do not use nigerian citizenship to travel if nigeria is so important why is it 70% off nigerians in other countries change their names do not even use nigerian names at all. To tell you nigeria is so low that nigerians choose to go to prison in other african countries dan to be deported to nigeria even in a country like malawi where nigerians run and hide in the embassy so they don't deport us. Go to any country in the world and say you are in nigeria see what we happen even countries like ghana benin republic or togo nigerian there cannot even open their mouth to ask for directions because they no what will happen to them. In europe when there are 5 Nigerians and one is killed the rest do not report to the police they run away. |
