TheSuperNerd: You now understand why I don't just jump up at the mention of any young player. Let the player start doing it first at senior club level and I will recon with him for the Senior national team. Development of players is not an arithmetic progression for all players. Some develop Geometrically while others even stagnate. Even the MVPs of past U17s are not spared of this stagnation. 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe: "It doesn't count". That is how you guys hyped Iheanacho here. From the way you guys were going about it you should be heart broken that at this stage he is struggling for game time in a club like Leicester City. I just dey look una those days. Na Icon4s get time. 7 Likes |

Petrobros: I wonder who hyped Iheanacho the way you guys keep making such baseless and false allegations. There was a keyword hammered like a talking drum on this thread was that Nacho needs to "work" very hard to achieve greatness. I particularly hammered repeatedly that Nacho needs to stay back at Manchester City, even if it is on the bench and keep learning. If he was the best thing since Nicolas Anelka, will I advice that Nacho keeps learning. Sorry but your point is not true. 6 Likes |

Petrobros: Struggling on the bench does not mean the player is not quality or lost its quality. It has happened to some of the best in the game. Forlan was struggling on the bench in Manchester United. Later joined Pellegrini at Villareal and became the highest goal scorer in Europe. Guiseppe Rossi was struggling at Manchester United and later Newcastle (for half a season). Later he became a top quality finisher in Europe. We saw how Victor Moses suffered before his run at Chelsea. So, unlike many, I am not looking at Nacho's present State but hopes he makes the most of it by working his socks off until he gets to an environment that will play the football that suits him and give him a run of games to prove his mettle. Finito. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Icon4s: Ronaldinho was and he was very brilliant in the final game of the U17. Toni Kroos team let him down. His quality was not in doubt. I think he scored our team with the best keeper in the tournament a brilliant free kick. Not long after that he made his debut for Bayern Munich. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J42_2xud6Ow Watch the U17 1997 final clip. The lanky Kid that took the shot the keeper saved and gave the assist for the second goal was Ronaldinho. He was brilliant. Then he was referred to as the new Ronaldo. By then De Lima was the best player in the World. 1 Like |

Icon4s: Maybe you thought because I said Osimhen has the potential of becoming one of the best to lead the Super Eagles attack mean I was expecting an immediate storm. Sorry to burst your bubble but I have been following the game for too long to think that. There is always a big journey ahead to greatness. I still see Osimhen as a future great but he needs to keep working hard to achieve. The battle ahead is not easy. So I see his current position as a journey. 1 Like |

Honestly, he was a true gem at such a young age. Ghanaian born American Wonder.... But the fame and early over exposure to the spotlights kinda derailed his focus and development. He started towing the path of a flexing Hollywood star rather than a disciplined footballer. I guess he just was not mentally prepared or matured to handle the hypes and weight of expectations. Freddy at a time was even better than Messi.... Yep... But such is life some times. Fame is good... Being in the spotlight is awesome but only when you are determined to not let it derail you or distract you. Look at Mbappe, he costs 180 million or so and is the world's most expensive teen footballer ever but he is doing his very best to stay grounded and focused. See one of many articles written to find out what happened to Freddy Adu the former super teen. http://grantland.com/the-triangle/freddy-adu-us-national-team-mls-2015/ asha80: |

TheSuperNerd: I was able to watch Adu closely in the 2007 U20 World Cup and I must say, he was mind blowing. So much ability on the ball and confidence. I think Altidore was also in that tournament which boasted of brilliant stars. With the likes of Aguero, Sunny Stephen (Nigerian but played for Soain), Pato, Jo, Renato Augusto, Pique, Alexis Sanchez, Giovanni Dos Santos, Carlos Vela, Vidal, Gama, Vitor Pele, Pererinha, Rui Patricio, Coentrao and a host of other young promises. Adu stood out from the pack when it came to ball handling. Sad he fell off along the way because he held a lot of promise. |

asha80: Another player I respect for being able to stay on the top of the game despite a lot of hype is Neymar. He might seem full of himself, egocentric, wild but when you compare the hype he has gotten from when he was about 12 years, I feel he has done well in handling the fame. 2 Likes |

TheSuperNerd: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqmowgmKt1o This clip will give a hint of how good Freddy Adu was in his U20 days for America. They beat Brazil in this match. Adu was on top of Marcelo in the game. Adu's move before the winning goal was insane. Some other names of the 2007 worth mentioning are Cavani, Luiz Suarez, Willian, David Luiz and the great Marcelo. |

please you guys should cut our players balling in Europe some slack, especially the young guys, they cannot do more than they know. The problem with our talented exports is that they simply lack crucial mordern day football Education!!!. As an agent, it's supposed to go beyond agreeing contracts and getting your cut but also nuturing, checking up, encouraging and most importantly Searching for knowledge in the game to develop my players game. sadly Nigerian agents do not give a shit, it's all play ball and get money, that is the biggest problem our players face. Already they lack football intelligence to compete with their mates, talent and insane hardwork most times carry African ballers to the top level. I used to think for a player to reach a significant top class level he had to have a cycle of three years(seasons) where he would evolve and develop, it still is in most cases but these days it just takes a season for an unknown player to make a seasoned veteran look ordinary and suddenly raising thier game to a world class level (mahrez, Kante, ndidi, vardy, Kane) this is for those who tend to underestimate our young guns in this thread, our players may be inexperienced but they are up to the task(e.g. Olayinka, kalu). I'm sure we would be overconfident of our defense if dounramma the 18 year old keeper was Nigerian. Africans already have a disadvantage in Europe because they Favour their own more, players have to be twice as good. For those doubting uzoho if only Mel wasent sacked he would probably have played over 20 Spanish la liga matches, you guys would have quickly endorsed him as the best keeper so why change your mind because of some clubs politics. We are lucky to have a talent like uzoho at a time carl is out coz believe me he's the best keeper we have in the team set up and better than some la liga golies. not playing for the first team those not mean he dosent have the mentality or talent to cut it in front of Messi. The boy is prolly our most modern goalkeeper with maturity beyond his years. Nigerian fans are to fickle. 8 Likes |

Amedino99: Cassio Ramos. Left Brazil to Europe and flopped at PSV. Actually, not given enough games to prove himself. Went back to Brazil and had a nice time at Corinthians, including a phenomenal season there. Some times these young talents need the right guidance and support to prove themselves. 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe: Yes I know. That is why I picked him and Kroos from that your list. Go back to that my comment and read again. Any young player can come out good but the kind of certainty you placed on certain players was what I was against. You practically believed Osimhen would have strolled into the Eagles line up by now. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 11:18am On May 06, 2018 |
Petrobros: Football is a long distance race. Not a sprint. Until today, I do not rate Aguero and Gabby Jesus ahead of Iheanacho when it comes to finishing. However, even a brief spell of outstanding displays does not guarantee a successful career. Look at Jo who once ruled Russia while playing for CSKA Moscow. Nacho's talent/potential was and is not in doubt. But greatness takes determination, hardwork and a series of fortunate events. 1 Like |

Icon4s: I have been doing this for too long to believe in practically stroll into the starting lineup. A player can be good but the wrong position can make him look bad. Wrong style of play can also affect display of quality. These are what they call picks. It takes time for young players to reach their Potentials some times. Look at Renato Augusto who was hailed as the best in the 2007 U20 Brazil team. There was a time he was off radar. It took him close to a decade to make his breakthrough into the Brazilian team. It is never a snap of the fingers. I still see Osimhen making a big break but it depends on hard Work and a series of good Fortune. |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 11:50am On May 06, 2018 |
TheGoodJoe: Of course Osimhen and other young players will get their time if they continue working hard and improving. I know the argument that ensued here between me and TheSuperNerd on whether Kelechi Nwakali would have broken into the Super Eagles team before the 2018 WC. We know these players are talented but the expectations on them to blow so early was so high. You and I have no control over the development of these players so u cannot come openly to beat your chest that this player will do this or this player will do that. As I have always said, I have seen very obvious talents all around the World fail to live to expectations. So I cannot vouche for any young player predicting he will be pulling up trees when he has not even started playing professional football. My ideology is I Watch how a young player is developing and see him compete at certain levels before knowing whether to expect much from him or less. I will always like to see an U17 star compete again at U20 and possibly U21 or U23. |

Icon4s: Former Brazil and Manchester City striker Jo has been released by Atletico Mineiro because of indiscipline. Atletico Mineiro released the striker and two other players on Monday, saying they committed a “serious” breach of team rules after a Brazilian league match this weekend. Club officials did not elaborate. Jo had already been punished by the club this year after failing to arrive at practice on time. He had claimed he was undergoing family problems. http://www.thehindu.com/sport/football/former-brazil-striker-jo-released-by-atletico-citing-indiscipline/article6563053.ece
