kikky91: I don't think you pay the SEVIS fee to the college. As long as the "someone" can send money via westernunion, they should be able to make the payment. |

Hello guys please i have something bothering me so I need your advices. I believe the U. S visa thread is a big family from which I can seek advice whenever I need it. I started my application to the U.S hoping I'd get a scholarship or something. I've been working on it since last year but I've not gotten any. It's most possibly because my WAEC and high school transcript is too average. I'm about to risk it and go to the U. S. My plans are one of these 1) Transfer to a community college after getting to the U. S 2) Get a scholarship for my 2nd year if possible but I wonder as i'll get through the first year as the tuition and board is $16k per year. My Budget is about 2 million. I don't want to have any regrets so I need your advice. Should I take the risk of traveling given the circumstances. I don't even know if there's a community college that meets my budget. I searched and I saw some but I don't know if there are high hidden costs. I need advice from experts. |

ChristoBam:2 million = $5,500 approx. after your health insurance, rent, uber and bus rides, school related fees, new comer miscellaneous fees, you're almost going to have nothing left, I mean nothing after a month or two, and trust me to dey stranded for Yankee worst pass Naija own, because every man works out his own salvation in that corner of the earth. if you're not in so much of a hurry to travel, you can complete undergrad here in Nigeria, and proceed for graduate studies, where the prospects of funding, research assistantship, and grant money is higher and better. if you're in a hurry to leave us here in Nigeria, then getting admission to an OK school would not be a bad idea, and then immediately proceed to transfer to a community college. There are medium paying freelance jobs online, 6 hours of extreme coffee, and 4 hours per day of sleep, can earn you just about enough to not have you turn the gym shower to your morning base. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Hello guys, please i need help with my situation and i feel i can get informed piece(s) of advice from here. I applied to a couple of schools in the US and a school in South Africa to study MPH last year. This year january i was given admission to the school in South Africa to study MSc Epidemiology, but not MPH because it is offered as a part-time programme in the school. So i enrolled for it because i thought a bird at hand is better than none. I have just been offered admission to my choice school in the US to study MPH(my choice program) for this fall, but my dilemma now is, can i appear for F1 visa interview here in South-Africa or i must return to Nigeria for the interview? And will the fact that i have a valid study visa for a masters program on my passport affect my chance? Please your informed but candid advice is needed...thank you all for the brotherly care on here. |

ChristoBam: I will advise that you check out CCs in Texas. I think Houston CC is cheap tuition-wise. That being said, on hidden charges, many US schools are transparent about charges but you want to be doubly-sure by putting a call through to them and/or sending them emails. You should also work on a backup plan on how to get some backup cash. That 2 million may not be enough except you are able to get free accommodation that is close to school and are also allowed to get insurance from any provider of choice. But if they make you buy their insurance, then that could set you back as high as 1500 dollars. 1 Like |

kodeya: Yes and no. Yes. If they request that you convert your 5-point scale to 4 which is what US uses. Then you have to use the services of WES or ECE. No. If they do not. That means they will do the conversion themselves. But you can use foreigncredits.com to get an idea of what the conversion should look like by converting it yourself. 1 Like |

Smartconcept1: Yes, is very much possible to use a fixed deposit account to get your I-20 in as much as you can attach the deposit certificate along side with the statement of account. Am very sure you can get your I-20 with that. BUT for visa interview i can't say for sure.. Goodluck. |
