Yuval Noah Harari reminded the world in his spectacular book, Sapiens, last year. Anything that can happen is by definition natural. If two women can find a way to sexual pleasure, then by the obvious evidence nature already allows it. If a man can wear what we now call ‘female clothing’ and not fall down and die because of it, then it is by nature natural. Nature allows a massive spectrum of possibilities, he reminds us; it is us humans that limit the possibilities with our fears, taboos and phobias, not nature. But let’s still investigate the word ‘natural’. Is there anything intrinsically positive about the Natural? In the first few centuries after Christ, it was very natural for a man to have 14 children and to lose more than a dozen of them to disease, and it was very natural for bacteria to wipe off millions of people because there was none of the medicines we have now. Those were very natural. And yet here we are now, as a race, having overcome those challenges, because we found ‘unnatural’ ways to fight nature through medicine. Indeed, humanity has spent the past two million years, since man discovered fire, fighting and running away from ‘nature’. We build houses to escape the rain. We buy shaving powder to get rid of the natural hair that grows on our chins and armpits. And we have unnatural caesarian operations because sometimes nature is careless, thoughtless and pointless. 6 Likes |

Mynd44: A lot of ignorant people online today. There's no doubt that every culture in the world had/has these homosexuals. Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa are not strangers to these acts. The question is, was it socially acceptable in Yoruba land? Calling someone by the name "adofuro" is a big slur. A huge insult that could get you killed if you mistakenly call some innocent person that way. In fact, homosexuals were always closeted so as not to be labelled that. So insinuating that homosexuality was part of Yoruba culture is ignorance at its peak. Sango dressed the way he did because that was what was in vogue. You didn't expect him to be in suit and tie did you? How about Igbo men that tie wrapper? Are they all cross dressers too? The lesbian that wrote that article claiming orunmila was a product of lesbian sex should go and conceive a baby with her lesbian partner and lets see how that'll come about. There is no justification for homosexuality. The great Roman empire was great until the men diverted into perverted homosexual relationships. That marked the beginning of the end of the Roman empire. For the Igbos jumping up and down on this thread, I think you should ask your parents the Igbo word for @ss-fvcker. I'm sure you aren't naïve enough to believe that homosexuality and lesbianism didn't exist in Igbo land too, what with the women possessing abundant male hormones enough to make them look masculine and very hairy. 14 Likes 2 Shares |

What nonsense is this one puking here? We have pineapple (Opeyinbo) in Yoruba. Apple is not grown in Nigeria Alubosa is Yoruba, others just have a similar name just like Ghana (especially Ashantis) have the following in common with Yoruba. There are many more but this is the few I can remember right now Yoruba / Ghana / English Fufu / Foufou / Mashed cassava Mibo / Miba / I'm coming Ekabo / Akwaba / Welcome Ewedu/Ooyo / Oyoyo / Jute O sun / O sun / Weep Adodi and Adofuro are the same thing, and are still one word meaning the one who engages in anal intimacy, where then do lesbians come in? Homosexual practice cuts across all cultures whether practiced openly or not, accepted or not, punished or not. God who created sexual intercourse for man however says it's unacceptable. Period. 2 Likes |

orogodoganyin: The problem with people like you is that you don't read to understand. You just do garbage in , garbage out. The historian n never said Sango is homosexual, but a cross dresser . A cross dresser is someone that dresses as the opposite sex e.g bobrisky . And as you said yourself Sango had his hair plaited and also other things that qualified him as a cross dresser 3 Likes |

5thElement: such a hatred and obsession for igbos..... u just leave the topic and be calling igbo igbo up and down.... the Op said sango and orunmila are gay and lesbian......u now leave the topic and start accusing others.....are u for real or have u smoked cheap weed or condemn tyres...... ur ancestors are gays and lived a sodomic life which why gays is prevalent in yoruba land....and part of their culture.....and u are here calling igbos...... Bobrisky is good example though joined with over 65% of una population that are gays.... Lesson learnt..... sango is a gay and orunmila is lesbian.... gay is part of yoruba culture therefore all yoruba are gays advice learn to stick to subject topic and stop deviating..... 7 Likes 1 Share |

From the paper it is fair to say that the researcher has completely misunderstood the intent of the message in the saying. A cursory look at the word suggests that it is new and not a proverb because in Yoruba etymology proverbs are not direct they are codified word therefore doesn't meet proverb criteria. Furthermore the word "adodi" doesn't necessarily mean lesbianism or gayism, it's a known fact that Yoruba employs use of euphemism when it comes to naughty talks therefore the said word is still used for straights who pursue female underpants. Let it be known that ORUNMILA was not just a mystical figure he actually graced this world and he is said to come from one of the towns around Oke-Ogun region in present day Oyo state and he's deeply scientific and he knows that like charges repells and unlike charges attracts this informs the basis of his philosophy (life is union of opposites). In conclusion it is very wrong to accept that Homosexualism has been in existence in Yoruba culture. It's not just insulting it's in fact criminal. 3 Likes |

Rickyuzzy: I'm sure you're not aware that there is a word for something that is not natural. It's called unnatural. I'm also sure you don't know the meaning of the word natural. I'll leave you to do a proper homework on that. Quoting someone who is also ignorant of the definition of natural isn't really a smart thing to do. From your point of view, a father inserting his penis into his 1 year old daughter is natural because it can happen. Right? Sir, you are ignorant. Change your homosexual ways. It is UNNATURAL. 10 Likes 2 Shares |
