President Donald Trump and President Muhammadu Buhari “We have had very serious problems with Christians who are being murdered in Nigeria; We are going to be working on that problem very, very hard because we cannot allow that to happen.” –
President Trump
“Trump’s offer shows that he is myopic and uncivilised. The pronouncement to help fight killings of Christians in a nation where innocent souls are wasted without recourse to their affiliations is a call to separatism.
“One would wonder if Trump is not aware or deliberately ignored the murder of several Muslims in a mosque at the University of Maiduguri, or those killed in mosques in Yobe and Zamfara; and many other parts of the country.” – MSSN
For once, I have to agree with the position of The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN). It has nothing to do with the fact that Trump is an insidious fellow that should be vilified by good, black men of conscious all over the world. It also has nothing to do with my extreme distaste for a man who I believe is a blot on democracy.
With him as the leader of the greatest country on earth, fringe nationalist groups have become bolder and are coming out from under their rocks to take civilization backwards.
Putting aside the fact that Trump considers blacks inferior to him, we know he has never hidden his hatred for Moslems and Islam.
One of the first executive orders he signed in the first few weeks of his presidency is a travel ban on people from predominantly Moslem countries around the world. Though his officials tried to put a gloss on it by saying Moslems were not the target, nobody with any sense bought it.
His racist supporters in America cheered him on. In Nigeria, sadly, he has many supporters. Most are Christians and from the separatist IPOB group.
Recall that when Trump won the elections, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, went to town with the news that Trump, unlike Obama is fully in support of their struggles and would do something soon to hurt President Buhari’s government.
Nnamdi Kanu’s (IPOB leader) followers swallowed all that exposing the deep level of ignorance among a people famed for their republicanism.
On another day, I would have ignored what Trump said about the killing of Christians in Nigeria. He is a clown and people only take him seriously because left alone, he would destroy half the world.
Christians are being killed in large numbers in Nigeria especially in Benue, Benue and Taraba States. But they are not the only ones being killed. Moslems too are murdered in the North East by Boko Haram and by unknown gunmen in Zamfara State.
By the way, if the same gunmen laying waste to innocent lives in Zamfara State had committed these atrocities in Benue or Taraba, they would be tagged killer herdsmen. We know how that works.
Before a visiting head of state meets with any American President, aides and experts in the affairs of that region brief the US President about the socio-political situation of that country.
These briefings are designed to give the President a pretty good grasp of what he should say so as not to appear ignorant and embarrass the US with his ignorance.
That President Trump was briefed about Nigeria is certain. What is not certain is the kind of briefing he got to make him utter such an unfortunate statement.
Perhaps, he got his briefing from people who had the same hatred for Islam and are pro-Christians. If that is the case, they committed an offense by trying to deliberately mislead the President of the United States.
However, in the scheme of things, that sort of offense is small fry compared to the Russia investigations keeping him awake all night as he tries to find a way to get out of it unscathed. Already, several of his closest aides, and even his son-in-law, have either been indicted or are facing criminal charges.
On the other hand, it is also entirely possible the briefing he got about Nigeria prior to his meeting with President Buhari was comprehensive. But because of his warped mindset, he chose to hear the things he mind could identify with and process easily: Christians are being killed in Nigeria.
One must also not forget the role of the highly biased news coming out of Nigeria though. Or the role of the Christian clergy in increasing the impression that a Christian pogrom is underway in Nigeria.
The killings in Benue have been going on for a long time. But Catholic Bishops only came out to make a strong statement after
Nigeria News reported the murder of two priests in Benue.
It had to take the murder of two men, who happened to be priests, for the Catholic Church to take an official stand on the issue.
Clearly, the leadership of the Catholic Church in Nigeria feel the lives of priests are more valuable than the thousands murdered by these terrorists.
As Christian leaders, their primary duty is to stand by the truth at all times. Taking up the cause of one side only negates the teachings of Jesus Christ.
As representatives of Jesus, distorting his message this way is the sort of transgression that should not be condoned by people who truly follow the teachings of Christ
Trump is a self-serving egotist who used gullible Christians to get into the White House. There is nothing Christian about that man’s actions or lack of it.
Some experts have long ago called for his head to be examined. That is a problem for the American people. And like MURIC and other groups have said, we should not allow the crazed notions of a misogynist to further deepen the divisions in the country.
Nigerians don’t need help in that respect. We are doing fine plunging the country into crisis.

The vast majority of Trump's supporters in Nigeria come from the east, where a large population of disgruntled IPOB yoot were easily brainwashed by Mazi Kanu Trump promised to restore Biafra once in power. Fast forward 2018 and it is beginning to dawn on them that Kanu merely took them for a ride grin
