But it was stated the game is to test our readiness for the WC.

To bid farewell with the CHAN team? Are they the ones going to the WC?

I read a quote by Rohr that it will be played by the local players. It is not part of his WC program.

DR Congo is a tougher game.. Atletico Madrid B is playing spanish division 3 football. They are 10th in division 3. It will be too low an opposition.

They will match the local boys well.

If this game is to be played on May 22nd, then it's probably going to be Athletico's U-23 team or something. I mean, are you guys aware that La Liga isn't ending this weekend? There are still TWO La Liga games left, so the league is probably going to be concluded next weekend. And remember that the Europa league finals is on May 16th. And you'd expect Athletico to rush to Nigeria for a baseless friendly game instead especially considering that many countries gonna need their players to start preparation for the world cup.

What am I missing

Yes, it will most likely be the B side that plays in the lower divisions.

I am not about the toughness of the opposition but the nature of the opposition. DRC are an African side with all the physicalities attached to the African game. I prefer we focus on European and South American oppositions.

Another Post-Russia prospect we can look into with time....

Ryan Sanusi of Sparta Rotterdam in the dutch eredivisie leads the stats for most tackles in the league according to Whoscored.com.

He is their captain and plays as a central midfielder and defensive midfielder (CDM). He is also cousin to Belgian international, Moussa dembele of Tottenham.
Ryan Sanusi is still just 26, born to a Nigerian father and Belgian mother, and still eligible for both Nigeria and Belgium. Had a few caps for Belgium at U-20 levels.

Nigeria confirm international friendly with Atletico Madrid
By Shina Oludare, Chief Editor Nigeria

As part of the Super Eagles’ preparations for World Cup 2018, Gernot Rohr’s men will face Diego Simeone’s men in Uyo

Nigeria will face Atletico Madrid in a friendly at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Tuesday, May 22.

While LaLiga and the Nigeria Football Federation have been heavily involved in organizing the event, prominent video entertainment giants MultiChoice Nigeria – provider of digital terrestrial platform GOtv is bringing Los Rojiblancos to play in the maiden edition of the GOtv MAX Cup.

There, the 2018 Europa League finalists will test the Super Eagles’ readiness for the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia where they take on Iceland, Croatia and Argentina.

“We are delighted to bring one of the three biggest clubs from LaLiga to Nigeria in what we believe will be a historic visit,” said Martin Mabutho, General Manager, Sales and Marketing, MultiChoice Nigeria.
“As you all know Atlético Madrid are one of the top clubs in LaLiga. GOtv customers and indeed, football fans in Nigeria, will have the rare opportunity of watching the stars play the Super Eagles right here on Nigerian soil.”
“MultiChoice is undoubtedly the continent’s leader in sports and we have repeatedly shown this not only by the exclusive content we broadcast, but also by the way we support sports in Nigeria and put the country on the global sports map through exciting initiatives like the GOtv MAX Cup.”

For LaLiga president Javier Tebas, Atletico are giving Nigerian a chance to see their stars up close.

“This is a historic announcement and we are excited to share this news with our Nigerian fans: Atletico Madrid, one of LaLiga’s greatest clubs, will come to Nigeria and give our fans the chance to enjoy watching their stars up close,” said Tebas.

“Africa and Nigeria in particular are very important for us and have a lot of love for Spanish football, something we are proud of.”

The game expected to feature plethora of stars will be shown live on SuperSport Select 4 on GOtv MAX.

@Bolded.... Nope. Liverpool finishes in the top 4 and wins the UCL... Chelsea is going no where.

But if it is Liverpool finishing outside the Top 4 and still wins the UCL... With Chelsea in 4th, then yes. Chelsea is in. So sadly, Chelsea is not going to the UCL even if Liverpool wins it.

Truth is the EPL would have easily had up to six teams in next season's UCL if these scenarios happens:
- Liverpool wins UCL but finishes outside Top 4
- Arsenal wins Europa league
- EPL top 4 are Man City, Man Utd, Tottenham and Chelsea.

Looollll.... It would have been crazy.

On Philip Billing, his defensive side really shew forth, I agree. But you know say your eyes dey that Chelsea game more shaa... Plus dem come dey make you vex on top. Hahahahahahahahaha.... Anyway, defensively, yes, Billing excelled. I also noticed he kept possession calmly and distributed well. He also got forward well on a few occasions. He is not the fastest of midfielders but uses his frame to good effect. He is a fine prospect shaa. I say we keep our eyes on him too. wink

Na wa ooooooo. Na so Chelsea don miss so!

Honestly, my eyes dey Chelsea's game more but I also tried to monitor his game.

I agreed with what you said about his game but I couldn't figure out his role on the pitch yesterday though I noticed he wore number 8 which made me confused him as a SS.

According to NFF and Rohr, this May 22nd bout against AM will played by the WC SE since Rohr said it'll be good for WC preparation. According to various media outlets, the NFF is casting huge doubt over the DRC friendly due to Ebola. I think it's safe to say that the DRC game won't happen.

Quick note: This match will be after the Europa League final and Javier Tabas, president of AM said that thr match will be an opportunity for Nigerians to see AM stars up close, so I believe we're most likely facing their first team.

Yes I know remember it started from laliga with when Sevilla won the Europa league, uefa said 6 team cannot play from a country,if you read what I said first you will get me well

Example If Arsenal win the Europa league and Liverpool win the champions league and they are both not in the top 4,the Europa league winner will be the scape goat or the team that came 4th in the premier, because Uefa said it can never be 6 team from a country, the highest is 5
