I am quite familiar with the NERC regulation with regards to embedded generation below 2MW. I was already scared that Fashola was encouraging 'everyone' to go become an independent distributed generator operator. His lack of knowledge in the field shows from time to time.
Cheers.

Thanks, alluding to was used because one is yet to see the document the Minister is citing.

But eez like you know dis people

Confused set of people, they are now shifting the responsibilities on others. Very soon they will be saying, "we don't have light cos people have refused to generate power "

good job fashola!...when you see a working Minister...you hear him talk sense....this is the long delayed era we have been waiting for..

i know some bad belle idiots who is only interested in politicizing issues will not see anything good in this new development

that would bring succor to all Nigerians......we have various IT networks that has easen the communication problems so far...so be it for power!

however, i will advise that adequate regulatory measures and functional monitoring Board be put in place to checkmate abuse that may not only

lead to exhortions from the users but may also lead to death due to carelessness from the operators

What will happen if the government remove the limit of the amount of power private ventures can generate? .. we are not just serious in this country.

This is the best thing I have heard a government official say in a very long time.

Power has held this giant captive for too long. Solve the issue of power (electricity) anyhow it may be solved and see things fall in place.

This is green light private investors. Get me a 10MW gas/diesel turbine and I will feed all the residential houses in my local government.

With the 8000W PV panels on my roof, I can sell power to my neighbours.
.
Wow this is great news. Prices will be competitive now. Discos will have to imbibe design thinking and customer service into their businesses . local governments should be given the power to regulate power and its pricing in their jurisdictions.

I'm happy they are seeing how discouraging this their licensing that costs almost the cost of running the Business for years has been causing. I hope entrepreneurs will arise in this economic situation to grab the opportunity.

Sounds like the law has been around for a while from what I've read so far but this is interesting nonetheless.
I'm a huge fan of personal responsibility and less government involvement. It's the bedrock of capitalism!
I hope more businesses get involved in this and stimulate the sector. It will cause the spark that will restart the gears of the country.

It's a welcome development, kudos to minister of power. Although this is long overdue, why haven't they taken this measures since? Now there is no excuse of not having constant power supply. I trust Nigerian businessmen, they will key into cool.

How?

How?

I guess he just woke up now. Abi you forgot that this same man said ' any serious govt should be able to fix power in 6 months' it is 3 years now and he is coming to tell us this. How about all the lies about the thousands of megawatts the claimed to be generating. How about the billions they have spent claiming to generate power that we cannot see. All of a sudden any Nigerian can generate power and sell to people. What are the discos currently doing? I guess they are playing ludo and not generating power.

Maybe the next news will be any nigerian can construct roads and build toll gates on them to make their money back. they should just shift all their responsibilities of govt on the people like they have been doing and still continue to collect taxes and use it to live lavish.

Speaking on the electricity supply situation in the country, Minister of Power, Babatunde Fashola has announced that people are now free to set up independent power generation companies “without necessarily requesting for license.”

Fashola, who made the announcement while on an inspection of Federal works in Jigawa State, stressed that the Federal Government is encouraging the private sector to invest in generation and selling of power to the public.

He said, “Any interested individual or company can set up power generation from two megawatts downwards and sell it to public without requesting for any licence.

“We are encouraging people to set up small power generation and sell it according to their capacity, not necessarily going for big projects that require huge amount of money and expertise”.

Bruuh it is 2 megawatt down don't need license. To generate and sell. Above will still have to get license from govt.
So change your subject to maximum of 2 megawatt

Nothing prevented this before now.

The Power act states that anything above 10MV must be pushed into the grid.

Which is why Lagos was able to do the Marina IPP that supplies public facilities (general hospital, state House, street lights etc).

This >10MV arrangement meant that as many people in say Gbagada and environs could be placed on one IPP.

Imagine several across Nigeria!

The ONLY challenge is that the distribution infrastructure belonged/belongs to the government (then) DISCO (now), so this arrangement is best for semi private estates like VGC that can deploy their own distribution infrastructure at scale.

[addition]

Imagine that Industrial estates are able to collocated power generation and therefore remove themselves from the National Grid for cheaper more predictable power (already happening in some places) and thus freeing up available generated power for others!

This people is why you usually have better power supply on holidays! The factories are usually down on holidays!

They don't seem to have a website.

They generate power from 5 hydroelectric dams.

The reason they may have had the 'Nigeria' prefix may be owing to them being a pre-independence pre-CAC entity.

If you do a Google search you will come up with stats and history

A major power comp without website?

They don't seem to have a website, but you want me to google what you couldn't find?

Moving on..

Fashola advocates law empowering states to produce, distribute electricity

According to the Fashola, “If tomorrow, the National Assembly legislates that states should generate and distribute power, a state like Lagos will conveniently generate its own electricity and distribute same to its residents”.

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/11/fashola-advocates-law-empowering-states-produce-distribute-electricity/

Fashola Commissions Peninsula Integrated Power Project,

Expressing regrets that his administration could not take the power to the homes of residents as a result of the Constitutional restrictions,

No such thing existed back then

Lagos state couldn't distribute power to residents because it was against the constitution.
