Why Electricity Is Cut When There Is A Rainstorm In Nigeria - IKEDC by Opinionated: 6:12am On May 13, 2018 |
Ikeja Electric also known as (IKEDC) has taken time to explain why it is common to electricity cut in Nigeria when there is a rainstorm. It posted the explanation on Twitter thus: Do You know? That power outages during storms are mostly a safety measure that in the event of a short circuit, broken branch or strong winds felling poles, lives and property may be protected as there is significantly increased risk of harm where wires remain energized in a strong storm? What do you think: a good thing or not? Source: http://www.opinions.ng/electricity-cut-rainstorm-nigeria-ikedc/ 32 Likes 6 Shares

Rubbish. Why are outages a rare occurrence in other countries. Why are they still using overhead electric poles. We keep defending mediocrity. 327 Likes 10 Shares |

This action can only be justified if they restore power immediately after the storm. But no, Naija NEPA uses the storm as an excuse to hold power indefinitely. 139 Likes 2 Shares |

Borrow sense when next you want to comment, this problem started since 1912 , and your ancestors were part of the problem How ?? I bet they did not follow the building regulations approved by the Local government, if that was implemented , then this wouldn't be happening , as a matter of fact most houses abroad look alike , that's what you call estates here because they have a particular plan and everyone who wants to build their plots have to Nigeria's problem with electricity should not be an object of ridicle and they turn of power ( even if it's inconvenient ) to save the life of people like you hisgrace090: 12 Likes 4 Shares |

chuka5000:The ironic thing is that in developed countries,in a storm, their first priority is to restore power supply because the lack of power has fatal consequences for life, consumables, drugs and infrastructure. But here in Nigeria, the first priority of the power companies is to cut off all power, without thinking of the consequences! 77 Likes 1 Share |

In a healthy Electrical system with breakers, relays and other switchgear fully operational, short circuits and open circuits are isolated within less than a second. But because the authorities are cutting corners, these equipment are not working or there. Thats why they dey seize light when rain dey fall. 50 Likes 1 Share |

The problem is simple Even with the trees, there should be light, the problem is we have failing protection systems which should automatically take off power in the eventuality of an overcurrent and/or earth faults. Some of those things are either not working or are inferior or have been sold(yes) ,and even the poles....some are almost broken..who even uses wooden, concrete or overhead poles now sef,or even the tx?...SCADA,etc. But let us not go there, that one will take us another 20-30years,because we still hover around 4kMW after how many years? As a country, let us give ourselves a plan especially from the LG level, say next 20 years and so on....but our politicians see that as unnecessary. If you know the havoc that bringing light now with the rains can cause ,forget am. Many years ago,a student lost her life @UI cos of something like that....it happens almost everywhere So for now, make dem dey off am, abeg........ 15 Likes 2 Shares |

anibirelawal: Yes Bro... Since the rain fell 5days ago in my area.. they are waiting for the pole to dry before restoring the light and it wants to rain again today I guess it will be 2weeks before the pole completely dried... That's if there's no rain fall in between 27 Likes 1 Share |

All these are flimsy excuses. In between, read a well detailed article about the recent retrogression in Nigeria in all sectors by this political analyst. This is the only article I can recommend to counter this excuse (as I call it).
