You of all people that seem to know Lasgidi well should know that 42companies owned, but BAT control Lasgidi to the core. And that's cos they are the 42 the media wants us to know about. Stop hoping onto the pathetic tribal defence thing. No everyone comments that way. |

Seun360: You are right, even though its a 3 man combination and tag team. Fashola fought the FG projects for most of these FG assets when he was the governor of Lagos state, including the FG lodge in Marina he personally delivered to Ambode. Who gave us Fashola and Ambode? Tinubu. Lagos state and the SW in general is benefiting from Tnubu's wisdom, good foresight and ability to spot good and talented leaders like Fashola and Ambode. 7 Likes |

The FG has a responsibility to ensure its property is in good condition and does not bring disrepute to the image of the state. deomelo: I am not quite sure I will call them "leaders" They are elitist and cater to their self interest FIRST. People focus a lot on "projects" but their investment in human capital development or even recognition of need for that is weak Just like Awolowo recognized the value of education someone needs to recognxe the nature of IT, its potential for separating countries into winners and losers and invest in that. Mathematics education needs investment as do apprenticeships of all kinds. We hardly see this all we see is concrete and steel but after more than 40 years in Nigeria Julius Berger still use Oyinbo Engineers who were born after Julius Berger arrived. The reality is Fashola did very little in terms of education and health in Lagos. He was not focused on the same people he went round throwing presents at during Ambode's campaign Lagos State does not have a water strategy and there clearly is no waste strategy The transport strategy is speculative 2 Likes |

National Stadium does not have to be used only for sports it can be used fo events like concerts and other entertainiment/ world boxing championships could happen there. During the week it can rent out rooms and offices to compaanies for training, meetings, events. That Location is just too sweet if the right structure is put there. That is not something the FG can even conceptualize, It needs a local and not a top down vision Lagos has the numbers . Remeber Ali fought Foreman in Zaire in 1974, Any World class artiste on tour would love a venue with potential capacity fo4 100k plus 4 Likes |

aribisala0: Won't have to debunk your statements but will have to shed light on some matters I don't know if you are living in the old lagos, jeez! I mean, how can you say Fashola's contribution in Education is infinitesimal? Bro, I swear Fashola is one of the Governors that made a humongous impact in the area of education. I mean, should I talk about the building of new secondary schools? Maybe I should say something about the renovation of the existing ones Truth be told, without being bias... Fashola contributed much in the area of education. Even Ambode hasn't done well in terms of education as he did. What I see Ambode doing is the construction of roads. He is trying in that aspect Shalom |

aribisala0: When the wonderful Fashola of Lagos state commissioned 30 skilled centers, was the skill centers for elites? When Fashola built and commissioned roads and bridges, are they for elites only to drive on? When Fashola built and commissioned housing estates, are they only for elites only to live in? When Fashola built and commissioned 15 waterworks, are they only for elites to drink from? When Fashola built and commissioned schools for school children, are they only for children of the elites to attend? When Fashola built and commissioned maternity centers, are they only for elite pregnant women to visit? When Fashola started the Lagos Metro Rail, did he do so just for the elite to ride on? When Fashola built and commissioned fire engines and equipment, he did so just just for the elites? When Fashola bought police cars, bikes and equipment, he did so just to protect the elites? When Ambode built and commissioned terminals, flyovers and so on, he built and commissioned them just for the elites only? Btw, Fashola built more school, hospitals and maternity centers than all the governors in Lagos state, before and after. Very ignorant and misguided comment on your part. |

deomelo: You still don't get it. You cannot. This is not about steel and concrete How many teachers did he train? What standards did he set for training and retraining This is not about commissioning but setting standards, measuring them and then auditing and reaudting I am apolitical as far as partisanship goes. You keep talking about commissioning That is not the issue In a serious organization every person would have an annual training budget . What is the level of computer literacy in the Lagos civil service? Has it ever been measured , is it monitored are there any goals How do civil servants or departments communicate. Look at the auto mechanic repair sector? Any modernization and training strategy? because their children school abroad there is no investment or strategy for education. Education is more about good teachers than buildings. Yes infrastructure is important but Human Capital is MORE important and that is why Japan and Germany that werre leveled in WW II are where they are They had high quality people/ High quality people does not happen by luck rather it requires strategy and investment Tell us the output of Fashola's so called skill centers. Where did he get the personnel to start ,what qualifications did they have Even hairdressers and bricklayers have a syllabus and certification in serious countries The truth is it is not a priority because their families are not involved 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Jackossky:Education is not about building First you must have a curriculum even for skill acquisition What is the content of the curriculum. How is it set and who is qualified to deliver it. Is it relevant?up to date? How many of such people do we need and where will we get them? How do we train them How much is spend on teacher retraining annually per teacher Even in crude measures like WAEC and so on Lagos went backward under Fashola. See I am not here to discredit him just to say he is a vicctim of the illusion that infrastructure is development. Infrastructure is development if you build it for yourselves not when foreigners build it for you and you people are stagnant. the Oyinbo senior Engineers we se at Julius Berger were not born when the company started operation in Nigeria this is more insultingg when you know that Julius Berger gets virtually all its jons in Nigeria. 1 Like |

aribisala0: True to some extent. Curriculum? See, I was once a teacher. They overhauled many things in the educational system. You can ask anyone you know. About the Julius Berger you mention, Yea, I also had speculations on that. I really feel bad seeing that the senior engineers are foreigners. What they do most is the supervisory work and measurement. Then you ask, can't Nigerians fill in these positions? But then, it might not be their fault. Some Graduates are inept in areas that they should be a psychic/Guru in. Companies are not ready to train them because If they should weigh the cost of doing that, it will be too Exorbitant and those recruits trained might leave the job later on. So, it's not worth the risk. This make companies to go for ready made 'oyinbo' Blame Nigerian Universities. |

Jackossky: I think everything I wrote is wasted on you. WHY are our graduates inept? How do we stop them being "inept" by prayer? No ! By Vision By strategy? Anyone without vision is not a leader in my book raising buildings all over the place is not the issue What is the 20 year people development strategy sector by sector Goverment could very easily have given JB a Nigerian only policy 20 years ago and they would have invested in our people. Government has not done anything to make them thing of training and exposing Nigerian engineers. Fashola geve billions in contracts to Chinese without any skill transfer clause The point is our politicians do not get this human capital thing. The ability to build airplanes is not handed down in the same way as the ability to build anthills. It is done by deliberate strategy We do not even have the ability too manage hotels. How many of our top hotels are run by Nigerians. They bring people here on cross posting to improve them but will not do the same for your people unless you make them. That means even knowing that you should ask |

aribisala0: Now you are Generalising Equipping the undergraduates with the needed skills isn't the job of Lagos State Govt as there is little they can do. If any is to make impact, it is the federal government. Such grievance about the undergraduates not performing up to par should be directed to the federal govt. If Julius Berger is to recruit, she is not to recruit only those from Lagos state, or those that schooled in Lagos. What say do Lagos state have in Unilag? Let's say the lag govt should have done better with Lasu, but then, If the overall do not grow, how do you expect the parts to grow? Lagos govt even tried in their assiduous impact in Lasu by reducing the fee to 25k. To you, isn't that part of development? Should have included the Nigerian Clause to the contract? What if it was and the foreign companies rejected such offer? To train Nigerians to be able to do them? remember that it takes years to fully equipped them with such Intelligence, are you saying Lag govt should wait till they are fully equipped before work can commence? I want you to remember that the people are clamoring for instant gratification, they don't want to hear stories about some Nigerians being trained before road constructions or hotel management could commence, the citizens want to see the job done instantly. In fulfilling this, the govt will always have to make some negative concessions to the foreign companies in satisfying the thirst of the people it governs. |

Jackossky: I was talking about leadership not the "job" of government. A leader looks at his eople and sees their problem and starts a strategy that will only yield fruit in 30 years. Our education curriculum and institutions do not produce output that is transformative. A leader has the conversation and asks the question. Everything I am asking is wha did Fashola do when he had the leverage of billion naira contracts to seek concessions from foreign firms .That is how knowldge moves from country Do you know the terms attached to the sale of heelicopters and its restriction on knowledge transfer? Governments PAYS for education? What is it actually buying if its graduates are not good enought. Government must know the problem, talk to employers and school about ho to improve our people/ The better trained we are the better for our economy. You keep talking about LASG . I think you are paid by them. I only talked about leadership They have positive points but are weak in leadership which is about taking steps now to improve our people in 20 years . that means there must be more attention paid to the training and retraining as well as evaluation of teachers. That is the foudation. By teacher I mean any person providing formal instruction whether a driving teacher or a home electrician. There should be structured training. That is where the world is now. Our people have always acted as if all you need to do is buil an airport and it will work. It will not work because there was no workforce strategy more than 49 years ago whem MMA was built. We are laying rail and talking about trains as if well trained staff will magically appear.. When You give a company a big contract like $1 bilion 3 or 4 times every 10 years you have the rght to ask " Can you take some of our people to go and gain experience and exposure at that new contract you won in your home country France,Italy Germany China etc be specific and say you want x number of people to get y number of hours . That is how the Chinese learnt how to do many of the things they now do for us. It is slow and tedious but we need a leader to see that . Rather than creating jobs for Chinese he should say if my son cannot get this job my grandson MUST ,what can I do to make sure of that? |

Not sure if it's a good deal for Lagos. Considering the degree of delapidation, I believe the cost of repairs and refurbishment would be more than the cost of building a new one. The place is an eyesore however I think Lagos state will handle it better than FG. |

deomelo: Listen I am not here to argue foolishlly or endlessly. My view is that Fashola had some positive points but in summary the general outlook of his government was elitist that is my opinion. I remember the slum evacuation and his commissioner telling people who have been there before Fashola was born to "go back to where they came from" It is idiotic to summarize that to say "because he did not train teachers he was elitist" Did I say so? Now you say I used the term elitist to insult? No if I want to insult I caan do that quite comfotably. Open a dictionary. This is the education we were talking about Fashola did not train tens of thousand of teachers please stop talking nonsense. What training dd he give them . Does it have a name or output qualification at the end. How many LASG civil servants can use a computer? My point is a very simple one not just with Fashola but the governed and the governors in Nigeria and I focused on Fashola because he was called a leader. We need to focus less on so called "projects" and invest in our people. Not only do we need to invest We need to sit down and formulate a strategy of how to educate and train those kids who are now still under the age of 10 to make them competitive in a globalized world. That is visionary leadership I saw no evidence of such thinking from Fashola whose vision is tunneled into their "elitist" Mega City project. Nigeria needs to invest more in quality human capital developmen that can be objectively measured. If you train 1000 teachers what did you train them in? For how long. Who did the traning and is it recurrent or a one off? Were the teachers evaluated afterwards and how did they perform. Were they certified? LASG went backwards in WAEC performance under Fashola and there is no objective evidence of any Human development strategy apart from noise from idiotic paid hacks and propagandists who come to places like Nairaland to make noise. Are you even from Lagos State? Do you know Lagos State? What dd he do to rehabilitate area boys? Where is the output of the skills acquisition programme. This programme that had no vision ,no investment and is as good as dead |
